Bhikkuni had returned home from her travels as the winter set in. She still had much to learn from the world but her young heart yearned for the familiarity of her homeland and so she had returned. In the spring she would leave again. Or at least, she would if she found that her worst fears were not coming true. The first words she heard upon her arrival were about a kalona attack. It was not her job to judge people, the world would provide balance and maintain its own order in on way or another, but the thought of kalona having the gall to attack their herd again made her bristle as well as shiver.
Wanting to find out everything she could about the events that had occurred in her absence as quickly as possible she approached the pair of stallions she had overheard, Vivace and Kouichi. Before she reached them Vivace departed in a whirlwind of feathers and hair not seeming to notice her at all. It didn't look like Kouichi had seen her coming out from the trees either because the moment he turned around and saw her he jumped.
Bhikkuni smiled at him but bowed her head apologetically all the same. "I'm sorry, Kouichi." She said gently. "I didn't mean to scare you, I thought you would see or hear me coming."

It seemed that things were finally getting back to normal within Padmapani. It had taken time but all the old wounds seemed to be no more than a memory to many of them. They had all suffered a great blow on that fateful day when Samsara attacked with her team of thugs. Kouichi hadn't thought he would live to see the day when the herd began to truly move towards the future but now he would need to rethink that.
Vivace had approached him with a smile on his face with snippets of song that had been sorely missed pouring from his mouth. After the success with the kalona his new friend, Clea, had expressed some interest in learning basic combative skills from Revyra. Vivace had sought Kouichi out hoping to discover the location of their favorite instructor. That had been the conversation Bhikkuni had overheard and Kouichi had known that she was listening in he would have invited her over.
Unfortunately Kouichi had not even known that she was back let alone standing right behind him. When he turned and saw her for the briefest of moments he thought that she was her mother testing his observational skills. He relaxed slightly when he managed to recognize the young mare and though his heart still raced he was able to think properly.
"Bhikkuni...when did you get back?" He asked sounding, and feeling, slightly breathless. He was glad that Revyra hadn't been around to see her daughter get the jump on him so easily. That would have been a moment Kouichi would have never lived down in all of his years.

When Bhikkuni heard her herdmate's breathlessness she immediately felt bad. She really hadn't meant to scare him and here he looked like she had just jumped out of the bushes in the dead of night and yelled "boo!" She hoped that she could make it up to him but that would have to wait until later, there were more urgent matters at hand.
"I crossed the border a few hours ago." She answered him matter-of-factly before taking a step forward anxiously. She had tried hiding her concern and being the calm pond that she should always be but she was having a hard time of it. "Is it true, Kouichi? Is it true more kalona attacked?"

Kouichi's thoughts drifted about upon hearing how short of a time Bhikkuni had been back. There was a very good chance that he was the first person that knew she was home. When the she stepped forward Kouichi assumed that she, like most young mares and stallions returning to the herd after a trip, was going to ask about the whereabouts of her parents. Instead, in a rather Revyra-like fashion, she decided to ask about the recent attack. Kouichi shook his head and smiled, for all that they were two very different creatures Bhikkuni was very much her mother's daughter, just a lot calmer and more patient.
"It's true, Bhikkuni. Don't worry though, no one was hurt, the kalona ran off like frightened bunnies when they saw us." Really the whole event was a cause for celebration among many. The use of Lorenna's network and their own birds put them ahead of just about anything but the odd wolf or cougar.

The kalona had run off? Bhikkuni's brain stalled. It didn't seem to be in a kalona's inherent nature to run from anything. The gods had made them very fierce and it was quite difficult to frighten something that was fierce. It seemed that it would be even harder to frighten them enough to scare them into leaving. "H-how?" The question came out in such a way that she managed to sound winded and confused all at the same time. While she didn't know everything about the defenses of the Padmapani she did know quite a lot. They were mostly peaceful though many were trained in self defense. They also had small patrols but they were small. If a group of kalona ran into a patrol they would hardly start shaking in terror unless that group happened to contain her father. It just wasn't adding up.

How? Kouichi laughed thinking it funny that she didn't know for an entire three seconds before he reminded himself that she had only just come back. While it seemed to be the talk of the herd there was no way for the young mare to have heard any of it. "Sorry." He said as his laughter abruptly stopped. "A while back a flutter mare came by trying to set up this information line using birds. Your dad and Shrivatsa agreed to it. Well, not very long ago we got a bird from the network saying kalona were coming so Hayagriva, Revyra, Shrivatsa and this mare gathered up a bunch of fighters and hid them in the bushes while everyone else hid somewhere safe. Then when the kalona showed up we all jumped out and charged them." Even talking about it felt thrilling to Kouichi, it had been a great victory because no one had been injured.
"Your mother could probably explain it better than me though." He continued trying to make it sound natural. He really did think Bhikkuni needed to go see her parents next. He didn't want to endure Revyra's wrath if she found out he'd been "delaying" her daughter's return. "Would you like me to take you to her?"

While what Kouichi was saying made sense somehow Bhikkuni found she was having a difficult time understanding it. Perhaps she didn't need to understand and maybe it would be better to just learn to let go of these things but this was her herd. Bhikkuni was still young and she felt very strongly that she still needed to know what was going on with her herd. It was something that she would just have to let go of in time, like all things.
"That would be nice, thank you, Kouichi." She said with a smile and a bow of her head. "Where is she?" She had no intention of going off on her own, Kouichi seemed to want to assist her as much as she desired more information. She did, however, want some idea of where they were going so that she could walk beside him instead of behind.

Kouichi silently thanked the kind, merciful gods that Bhikkuni had agreed before turning to head down a path. "She should be out by the training grounds right now." He answered as he waited for Bhikkuni to follow after him. Once she did he started walking the long path in towards the central areas and Revyra's training grounds. "I think you'll be happy to know that she's still training anyone and everyone she can though she has run out of foals." He smiled slightly and then winced. Without foals to train she seemed to have taken a certain pleasure in putting him through his paces over and over again. One day he might have to take a little trip just so he wouldn't have to endure more training.
