Calder, Mal, and Amrita had all talked about their worries about Christof. With Dr. Fell showing up for Halloween in the Town Square, the great worry, the biggest issues, regarding Christof's freedom after graduation was brought to the forefront. With Hunters and their own lives occupying them, it had been pushed back, but now it was time to focus. They had to figure something out. It was Christof's freedom, his happiness at stake! Calder did not want to loose his friend or see Amrita heartbroken.
He needed to talk to his friend.
Going to Christof's room in what felt like a long time, he took a breath and knocked.

The Igor, thankfully, was in. Calder was greeted by a cracked door, and a terse, pursed expression before Christof eased the door open. A finger raised up to his lips as he motioned to where Scruff was laying, sleeping in it's basket, looking rounder than ever and gave soft whines with each breath.

Calder looked at Scruff, having expected the lightening scareon to be all over him. Seeing the mini sleeping, Calder actually looked disappointed.
He rose his hands. "O.K." And then. "Scruff-fat."
Easing inside, he shut the door and looked around before turning to Christof. "Want-2-talk?"

"Can-speak. But-soft. Scruff-sick." Christof sighed as he signed, clearing some mess for Calder to sit on the bed if he wished.

"ok." Calder said, finding he could talk about this better if he could actually talk, and he moved to the free space on Christof's messy bed. He was sometimes just as bad as Barth, which was odd considering that Christof had less stuff.
Sitting, he nearly fell back to the terrible spring mattress, but regained his balance before he breathed deep. The smell of metal, scareon, chemicals and preserved meat. He forgot this smell for a time, but it was familiar now again.
He missed visiting Christof, and feared they had drifted apart during their own problems.
"I talked to Mal and Amrita." He whispered. "We want to buy you from Dr. Fell, but.....we don't know what he'd want. We want to fight for you, but we'd have to make our bid very enticing. Since you know him, I thought you could tell us."
He looked to his friend, worry creasing his face. "Barth and I are moving together after graduation. We want you and Amrita to come with."

At Calder's words, Christof suddenly snorted, glancing up at Calder with an incredulous expression. "No." The gesture was simple.

Calder had no idea what the snort was for, but he glared back all the same. "What do you mean no? You don't know what Dr. Fell likes?"

"NO-" His movements became sharp, his hands shouting where his voice could only give a forceful grunt, "WILL-NOT-HAVE-" His fingertips froze in place, convulsing into fists. -you pay those costs.
The words burned in his mind, but what remained of his tongue in his throat burned hotter, down to his hands. He lowered the fists, rolling his head with a whine before another suddenly joined in.
He hesitated, blinking towards Scruff's basket where it rolled onto it's belly, giving a sudden wet cough followed by a shriek.

Anger flickered just as intensely as Christof shouted, but the pain evident on his face reminded him of his master. "I'm sorry. I forget about his powers over you at times. But, we're still willing to pay those costs. We all are. We can't let anyone have you. You're our Igor. Amrita needs you. Barth needs you. I need you. Dr. Fell is willing to sell you. If he winds up giving you to someone else, they might not be. Then we'll never see you again. We have to find a -" He looked at Christof more seriously. "No matter the cost."
He moved closer, placing his hands on Calder's fists. "You have worked and sacrificed life and limb to save everyone. You were there with me to get Barth when he was taken by the hunters. You were there when Amrita was taken too. We all owe you our lives and happiness, and we won't have it any other way. So please..."

The hunchback, thankfully, had found a distraction. One hand gently rested on the scareon's bloated side, rolling it over while the other two shot out to sign frantically, "Knife."

"Oh!" Calder said, getting up and moving over to look at the selection of knives Christof owned. "Just any knife?" He looked at the desk. "You have a lot." Calder picked one that looked sharp and went over before kneeling...
- But then he held the knife to his own chest. "You're not putting Scruff out of his misery, are you?" Calder didn't want Christof to hurt the thing.

The Scareon howled, slobber running down it's muzzle as it rolled miserably.
Christof threw out his hand in a 'do-not-make-me-ask-twice' manner with a punctuating expression.
