Glow duty. It was one of the more unpleasant chores that were often assigned to hapless Candidates - hapless candidates that today numbered Iliyana among them. She supposed it could be almost worst. After all, she wasn't on latrine duty. Still, this was an aggravating task, and there wasn't even any conversation going on to help make it a little easier. Stealing a glance at her partner for the messy work, Iliyana frowned at the dark-haired girl and huffed.
"Won't you at least say hello or something?" She asked, hazel eyes flicking around. "This work is awful, but it could go by a little faster with conversation." She paused, then, looking up to the other girl in hopes that she might get some kind of response out of her. It wasn't any fun to do all this work in silence! Well..... not that this work was any fun anyway.
Still, it would be better if she could have some good company. Riverstone usually accompanied her on her chore rounds, but glow duty was one of the few things that made her lazy and clingy flit flee her side for better perches. The only way she was going to get through this chore without going half-mad from boredom (and disgust, because glows were simply terrible!) would be if she could get some kind of benefit out of her current company.
But that was kind of hard to get when her temporary companion seemed to speak as little as possible!

If she'd felt like using words to express her distaste at being assigned Glow Duty, it would have been as simple as saying 'blech'. Glow duty was definitely not one of her FAVOURITE activities she'd been assigned since coming to Fort, but Seikih had a way of dealing with everything. Tuck it in, don't say a word, and you'll be fine. She'd tied her long, dark hair back, careful to ensure that it didn't get in her face (or in anything, shard it.), and her silvery-gray eyes were intent on the work before her. Seikih had been content to work in peace...until....Apparently the Candidate she was assigned to work with felt like being talkative. Iliyana was giving her a frown, one that, for all Seikih cared, meant nothing. Apparently she wanted to make Glow Duty go by quicker with speech. Not that that would help. Tedious duty went by slowly, whether you talked or not, in the young Candidate's opinion.
Her silvery gaze did turn to the other girl for a moment, and a sigh heaved out of her chest. She was grateful that Dash hated Glow duty. It meant she didn't have a flit ripping her hair out of its braid, and nesting himself in it. The tangles that caused were a nightmare to get out, though she was slowly getting used to the idea of dealing with it. Of course...the other girl making another noise drew her attention. Was she really so intent on conversation that she would continue to stare every so often? With a tiny groan, never once stopping her toil, Seikih spoke up. Her voice was soft, and a bit more effeminate than what one might have expected out of the somber girl.
"Fine....Hello."
Simple, and hopefully this would pacify her working partner...

Was that really all she was going to get as a response? Iliyana wrinkled her nose, but focused on her work for a few minutes. Clearly, her fellow candidate was hardly interested in socializing, but she had to do something to make this chore more bearable. Complaining about it wouldn't really work, but maybe if she could find a topic that would allow them both to actually speak - well, that would be better.
"A true wordsmith you are," she said, but kept her tone light so that it wouldn't be taken the wrong way. "My Riverstone would adore you. Though I can't say I'm not glad he's found elsewhere to rest for now; this chore is difficult enough without fire lizards tagging along."
It definitely was, in her mind. Riverstone may be a lazy little thing who preferred to lay around her neck and shoulders than get into mischief, but this was not the sort of chore she wanted her flit to be tagging alongside her in doing. It was just as well that it was apparently too onerous a chore for Riverstone to stick around.

Seikih huffed softly. Her fingers continued to work, busying herself carefully with the task at hand to keep herself from having to deal with Iliyana's incessant talking. Stupid girl didn't seem to realize that the dark haired young woman was VERY uninterested in dealing with her idiocy. Taking a breath as she mentioned a flit, those silver eyes turning to her with an angry glare, her full lips flicking into a frown, "You seem to think I have an interest in talking with you." She muttered irritably, setting her glows down for just a moment as she turned to face Iliyana. This was not going to be warm...This was not going to be friendly. As far as Seikih was concerned, this girl was just impeding her work.
"I understand the irritation with flits. I have a blue, myself, and he's an irritating, rather nerve wracking little thing with a penchant for tangling the hair of anyone he gets his claws into, but you need to know one thing. I do NOT put myself in this position as a Candidate to make friends." She moved back to her work, picking up her basket of Glows and getting back to work, carefully ensuring that the other knew that she didn't want to talk, "I'm here to work HARD to make sure that I Impress and take my place in the skies. The only time I will make FRIENDS," she spat, irritably, "Is with my Wing when I go into the night sky with my Dragon." If one thing, Seikih seemed very determined....Very proud.
