"An exploration of the intersection between religion and homosexuality in the U.S. and how the religious right has used its interpretation of the Bible to stigmatize the gay community."
I watched this and I'm not gay. I just have gay friends and many people, including my parents and relatives believe it's wrong. There is no stigmatization coming from them, but in my opinion you already stigmatize by not saying it's ok, because that's they way they are by nature.
What I really got from this film is that there are people like my dad that are literalists and take every word as true. Literalism is a modern use of the bible and was not like that so many years ago. Context is very important in understanding the bible as well as the history of it and the times in which the bible was written.
The movie made me realize that there are more Christians out there like me that think the same way I do and the churches are not all like what I'm used to where I am. We're very conservative here. I feel more close to churches in general because of this movie and because I now know that the bible was not meant to be read literally all the time. Many who study it say things that I actually agree with. I feel so relieve that I'm not the only one that thinks the way I do.

The bible has been taken literal for over 1000 years... Or else the Pope wouldn't have had such power and authority.
Anyways, yeah, there is plenty of Christians out there, especially younger ones, who are not believe being gay is a sin when they may see the same kind of love a straight couple can have.

Why does, it have to be one way or the other? You said, "..you already stigmatize by not saying it's ok..."
Just because, I don't say it is okay, that means I am against it?
What they do is their thing, just as what I do is mine. I am not for it, nor against it, and to me saying it is okay says, just that I am for it. Why does one have to voice their opinion for something they aren't for, or against, for it to be not counted as stigmatic.
To me, it is the same as saying, if you didn't stop the crime(any crime can be placed here)... you are equally guilty of it.
If I miss understood, please correct me.

Literal readings of the Bible came more from the Protestant's movement in trying get back to this idealistic notion of a "true, unadulterated Christianity" and away from Catholicism which was and still is regarded as not being true to the Bible. What's the most common argument you'll hear against Catholics from other Christian sects, "they don't follow the Bible"?

Well... true... they are more the Christian's pharisees where they make up their own laws, and get way more restrictive and crazy...

I've wanted to see that movie for a while now. I tried watching it online but I couldn't find much. From watching the trailers and other bits of the film, it looks excellent!
