A lot of people don't know what these are, but some people are advised by their doctors to try to avoid oxalates. Generally, these people have issues with kidney stones, vaginismus, or vulvodynia. If you think a low-oxalate diet could help you, consult your doctor before making any dietary changes, as with any dietary change.

This list is meant to help people who need low-oxalate diets. I am not a doctor, a nutritionist, or any such thing. I just got frustrated that there are no comprehensive, full lists that are easy to search.

I don't know how many milligrams of oxalates are in any of these, and it is possible that the same items will be listed twice under different categories. This is because, from what I can find, oxalate content seems to change depending on the season, the growing conditions, the part of the food you eat, and the way you prepare the food. I have tried to make distinctions when possible, but, for the most part, this list is only to give you an idea. It is made up of several different lists found on several different websites. I will have the URLs to the websites I've used at the end of the list.

If you hold down "ctrl" and hit "f," you will be able to search for whatever words you want. The point of this list is so that you can either browse by oxalate level or use your browser's search function to find out about a specific food's oxalate content.

Some general things to keep in mind that will keep you at least close to the right track:
1. Meat is good. Eat all of it you want (except liver and sardines, but those are gross anyway). Eggs are also fine.
2. Cocoa powder is bad. White chocolate does not use cocoa powder, so it should be fine.
3. Dairy products are good. Cow milk, cheese, yogurt, you name it.
4. Wheat is bad. This means bread and pasta are not your friend. This also means limited breakfast cereals (anything made of corn or rice is okay). On a similar note, no oatmeal (try a bowl of rice with milk, sugar, and cinnamon instead).

Talk to your doctor. He or she knows what you should be doing much better than the internet does.

Negligible - All Meats (bacon, pork, chicken, beef, hamburger, fish, shellfish, shrimp, lobster, ham, lamb, poultry, turkey, corned beef, etc.) (Liver and sardines are both listed under “medium” and may be exceptions)

Rice Oatmeal

Ingredients:
- About 1 cup of white rice
- About 1 1/2 cups of water
- Splash of milk
- Cinnamon and sugar to taste

Mix all ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl, then place bowl in microwave for about 5-10 minutes, depending on the strength of your microwave. Let bowl set for another minute or two so the rice can absorb the water a little more and cool down. Add more cinnamon/sugar/milk, if you prefer.
