The event known as “The Shattering” is considered by most to be the largest, natural disaster in recorded history. Although few know that the incident was not natural, but the misdeed of a man named Victor Dumas. Dumas discovered what he believed to be a new source of clean burning energy in the core of what was once known as Australia. In secret he drilled into the island continent in hopes of monopolizing this new source of power for himself. On the verge of reaching his goal, his machines triggered a seismic event of unparalleled magnitude. Within a day the once prosperous nation was torn asunder into three, separate land masses. It took several years for the Australian people to recover, and even then thousands of lives had been lost and billions of dollars in damage had been done. Dumas stepped in, playing the hero, and helped fund several support operations. In the shadows of his assistance, however, Dumas continued his search for the secret energy source at the bottom of the ocean.
The Victorious Alliance, a group of well known super heroes from across the world, did what they could to help in the recovery. The heroes were well aware that Dumas had played a part in the disaster, but had no solid evidence to convict the felon. Before they could further pursue their conviction of Dumas, the heroes would have to deal with the growing crime rate in the area. Some of the newly founded districts were becoming rampant with marauders, crime organizations, and various other threats. One unusual threat was the increased number of mutated creatures that suddenly appeared from land, sea, and air. It was discovered these mutants were the result of an unknown, mutagenic anomaly. Some people blamed a form of quick evolution triggered by the shattering. Others believed the several chemical factories that had been destroyed during the incident had polluted the area so much that wild life had been severely affected. Regardless, these new dangers prompted the Victorious Alliance to erect a new post for their group in the largest district. They called it Victory Tower, and it shone like a brilliant star in the dark time after the shattering.
Soon a massive city sprang up around the tower, and it seemed a new era was about to begin for the new territories. However, not all was well in the shattered lands as people began to experience strange changes. These individuals began to present odd powers and physical transformations that left most who experienced them dumbfounded. Stranger still was the sudden rise in pregnancies across the districts. More and more woman were becoming unexpectedly, and sometimes inexplicably, pregnant. Their were even those that grew to full term in a matter of hours, yet carried their children as long as any other woman, if not longer! It was indeed a double wammy, especially when many of these pregnant women also began developing their own, superhuman abilities. It wasn’t long before a new generation of heroes and villains began to swarm the land, and many were uncertain of just how to handle it.
The Victorious Alliance responded with an open invitation to any of the new super powered individuals. They felt the best response would be to bring these newly powered people in and train them in how to use their powers for the cause of good. All the while the Alliance was searching for the cause of these new powers and a way to return these people to normal.
Victor Dumas saw an opportunity and contacted many of his connections in the criminal underworld. Together they had created a shadow organization that seeks to manipulate and utilize these new super humans as they see fit. All the while they would search for the source of their powers in order to take them as their own. Even better would be a way to depower not only the new heroes, but the old ones as well.
A war was on the horizon, and one time innocent civilians would soon become the soldiers of two long time foes: Good and Evil.
