It had not been an easy few sevendays.
First the ruined party with the fire and the tunnel-snake, then the egg theft, and finally the discovery that although all but one of the regular hatchlings had made it back to the Weyr... the Gold egg was still missing.
The Revolution had split the Gold from the rest of the other eggs at some point and while the groups were busy chasing down the leads they knew about, the Revolutionaries had spirited the Gold egg away to Faranth only knew where. There had been no keening from the dragons, and N'mol thought that if the Gold had hatched with no viable partner nearby Suunath would have known, so she had to have survived. That knowledge was bittersweet, though; she would still be raised to hate the Weyr and all those who would have loved her instead of treating her like scum.
When the Search parties had left N'mol had seen that Z'fer and D'lin had elected to go and had chosen instead to stay behind with Kindra. She needed his support, though she hadn't said as much at that point, and N'mol didn't want the majority of the Wingleaders to be out of the Weyr all at once. If something happened to the Clutch while they were distracted... well. It would have been another disaster and N'mol wasn't sure if the Weyr could handle that.
The Weyr could at least be pleased that the Hatching had been successful. The eggs had all hatched, no betweens, and even though Suunath had yielded a Crimson it was only a single atypical. It was a good Clutch for everyone. N'mol had even gone to visit the other locations where eggs had been found, hatched, and Impressed to those in the Search parties, once the Weyr had gotten word of what had gone on out in the jungles. He'd spoken to D'lin, and afterward N'mol had picked up several guard shifts with various of the hatchlings who were unable to be moved yet. It gave him a sense for what kinds of riders would be coming out of this Clutch, and it let him assure Kindra and Suunath that their children who were born away from the Weyr were strong enough that they would be back to them in a few days.
Somewhere in between all of this N'mol had found the time to schedule a wing practice and had just had Tyeth put out the word that there would be a second practice the following day. In the light of late afternoon-- a rather overcast one for the Southern Continent-- he had Tyeth deposit him at Kindra's hut, having been assured that she was at home.
Cepheith wasn't present, but N'mol knocked on the door anyway, for politeness's sake.

Kindra had not had it easy, at first Suunath had blamed her for the loss of her eggs and in truth, Kindra blamed herself too... she should have been awake, alert when Suunath had been sleeping, keeping watch over the precious eggs but she'd been deep in sleep herself. It had taken everything in her .. and N'mol and Tyeth, to prevent her from mounting Suunath and hunting down the thieves right away. For a good while Kindra AND Suunath had been volatile, Suunath challenging any dragon that came near, would have spilt ichor were it not for the comforting presence of her favourite Bronze, Calanoth too she heeded but not as easily as she listened to Tyeth, he was the one she was more used to being around. She had not been an easy dragon to be around, barely sleeping, making the bronzes bring her meals when she needed to eat, barely touching it as it was, loathe to leave her remaining eggs.
The search parties sent out hadn't left Kindra with much optimism.. Pern was a HUGE place and well ... they could be anywhere but the fact that parties were sent out did much to mollify Suunath, who had been honored that Cephieth herself had gone out to search for her eggs.
Then the eggs had begun to hatch and it had taken everything Kindra had to force Suunath to uncoil herself from the shells and step back behind her and allow the candidates to file onto the Sands. She hadn't wanted anyone near despite her humming. When all eggs but one stood Hatched and Impressed Kindra had groaned inwardly but taken up the duty with little outward complaint. Runt it might have been but it was one of Suunath's babies and since the theft of the eggs, well she wasn't about to let even one shell go uncracked, even if it did contain one of the more.... distasteful of colors to her, though she knew Suunath didn't mind them. She'd whacked it with more force than she'd perhaps originally intended and for the first time Kindra had been afraid of her dragon, when Suunath had roared in her face, close enough to leave spittle on her cheek, her heart had thudded in her chest for a moment before common sense took over and she forced her Gold to back down, Her next whack had been slightly gentler but still forceful. It hadn't harmed the crimson inside though, who Impressed safely.
News had come back later that day of the missing eggs having been found and all Impressing .... All but the Gold Egg, her pride and joy next to Suuanth since her Gold had proven every naysayer wrong by producing a Gold in her first Clutch, not many Golds did, not in their first, or so she'd been told. Coupled with Suunath's size she knew many had doubted her offspring but .. news had come of a Bronze from Suunath, so one Bronze.. and hopefully.. wherever she was... the Gold. It had left Kindra with a bittersweet pride because they had hatched away from her Suunath... and the Gold was still missing, surely she'd have hatched... but there were no whispers.. no rumors even as of yet as to where she could be. When she knew the location she knew she would not be able to prevent Suunath from going to see her Hatchling, to try and bring her home if she could. The memories fresh enough to Kindra.. and raw enough that Suunath would know and remember for a long while.
If it hadn't been for the support of N'mol... and Tyeth... she and Suunath could well have run themselves ragged searching or fighting ... or any number of other outcomes possible. She was busy tagging areas of Southern that had already been searched, she felt next to useless, first Suunath had lost her Twin to another Weyr, thankfully she had forgotten Kheth by now... but now she had lost her babies... her precious Gold. Oh they knew that all were safe, Suunath would surely know if any of her babies had gone Between .. at least that's what Kindra was hoping... clinging to.. that there had been no Keening so the Gold MUST have Impressed to someone.
She jumped as there was a knock at the door of the hut but a reassuring rumble from Suunath in the back of her mind told her Tyeth had dropped off his rider. She sighed, closed her eyes for a moment and put her things down, crossing the room and opening the door. She looked like a woman that had barely slept recently, her hair though tied back, was loose and strands straggled around her face, only her dress was clean but it was wrinkled, which wasn't Kindra-like at all, certainly not the Kindra that prided herself on looking her absolute best .. but then, she was comfortable around the only two people that saw her in this state. If she let the hut she'd dress decently enough despite the fact she couldn't disguise her obvious state of mind.
"N'mol .. " she smiled at him, sighing a little, pleased he was there. "Has there been any news on the Gold?" she asked him, hope rising in her heart just a little.

Kindra's first question made N'mol's stomach constrict, but he let that feeling pass. Of course she would ask. She would continue to ask until so much time had gone by that it became unlikely they would ever know.
He shook his head. "No."
It was killing Kindra, that much was apparent from her state of dress, even if N'mol hadn't already known it. Suunath would, in time, forget or the pain would be lessened to something faint, but Kindra was human and her memory was long. N'mol didn't want to see her wallowing in this situation for any longer than was necessary.
"The remaining Hatchlings are being brought back today. No news on the Brown who saved his Green sister by letting himself be taken or on the Gold. Remember, we aren't likely to hear much until the Rebels think that there's no way the weyrs can interfere." N'mol stepped into the hut and closed the door behind him. "How's Suunath holding up?"

Kindra sighed .. of course there was no news... damn those thieves to Threadfall. She brushed a couple of strands out of her face and stepped back to let N'mol enter the room. "Today? ... " her eyes grew wide, she'd promised Suunath they would fetch at least one and Kindra had chosen the Bronze to pick up .. that would mean cleaning up. Well. she could do that later she supposed
At N'mol's mention of Suunath she looked to where her dragon was laying and sighed again "She's barely eating enough, what she does eat, well ... thank Tyeth for a lot of that, she won't always listen to me" She shut her eyes a moment, Suunath's mixed pain and joy hurting Kindra more than she would let on "She should start eating better once all the hatchlings are back... and once she forgets" she said, moving towards N'mol to embrace him "Thank you N'mol... for..for everything" she murmured.

N'mol wrapped his arms around Kindra as she embraced him, squeezing back and bending his head so that it was as close beside hers as he could manage without being entirely uncomfortable. "We will find her, Kindra," he promised. "It may take some time, but we will find her."
It bothered him to know how much the theft had affected Kindra. He wasn't violent by nature, so thoughts of making the Revolutionists pay didn't occur to him, but he was determined to do what he could to soothe the hurt of losing several of Suunath's first eggs, if only to see Kindra's happiness return. She was strong and that was helping her hold together in the public eye, but her appearance now had told him that it wasn't enough. He made a mental note to speak with Narisa.
He pulled back and tipped her chin up so she was looking at him. "I didn't think this needed saying, but I'm always here for you when you need me." N'mol paused, then leaned down and kissed her briefly. It was rare for him to take the initiative without some kind of signal from her, not because he lacked it, but because he preferred to know that if he did so Kindra wasn't going react in a fit of pique. A slap was generally not the best response to an action meant to be romantic.
As he pulled back it surprised him to realize suddenly that in the almost-Turn since they had left Benden, even in the few months since they had openly admitted they wanted to pursue a relationship with one another, he'd only kissed her a scant handful of times.
"Though the thanks is appreciated," he added with a charming grin, instinctively continuing the conversation as if he hadn't had a private realization. "Since Suunath is taken care of and Tyeth can keep an eye on her, why don't we get cleaned up and I'll take you to get an early dinner?"
You will keep an eye on her? He asked Tyeth belatedly.
Tyeth's voice rumbled through N'mol's mind in the privacy of rider-to-dragon mindspeech. N'mol, sometimes you can seem simple. I am always watching over Suunath.

For several heartbeats Kindra jut clung to N'mol, burying her head against his chest, relishing the comfort he provided just by being there for her. "i know N'mol.... i just wish we had more news" she murmured, looking up at him when he tipped her chin, she was about to answer his comment but her stomach did a full compliment of somersaults when he took the initiative and kissed her and all but scrambled her already tired mind at the wave of affection she felt for him, in fact she flushed crimson and almost shyly (if it was in Kindra to be shy) glance away and smirk a little bit.
Oh he just had to grin in that way he grinned that made her stomach flutter. She smiled widely back "N'mol" she breathed then cleared her throat a little, a half smirk on her face. "We?" she raised an eyebrow and looked him up and down "you look clean enough to me N'mol" she chuckled then slipped her hands around his waist. "Perhaps a late lunch would be better" she said suggestively. She loved this man, she really did and made a decision right there and then to show it more. He'd given so much support to her over the last few sevendays that she didn't know what she would ever do without him and she had to admit, as stubborn as she was, it WAS nice when he took the initiative sometimes.

N'mol briefly regretted that his suggestion hadn't been taken, but let it pass without comment. If she would rather eat first to boost her spirits, than that was what they would do.
"All right." He turned her toward her mirror. "But make sure you think you're presentable before we go out. I know that if I let you leave without checking and you think you don't look good enough later on that I'll be in hot water." He smiled at her. "Once you're ready, we'll leave. I'll send Valkyrie to see what's available in the dining hall."
N'mol summoned the Green with a thought, turning aside slightly. Ostensibly this was to give the firelizard her instructions, but it served to allow Kindra some privacy as she checked her appearance as well. When he was done, Valkyrie left to do his bidding. She was smart enough, at least, to bring him images when she knew what it was he wanted. With any luck she had understood well enough to bring him back images of the food he wanted to know about, and not someone else's lunch.

Kindra frowned just a little as he turned her to the mirror, seemed he didn't catch on to her flirting but that didn't matter when she caught sight of herself. "oh..." she exclaimed a little, not realising how bad she looked (in her opinion). She smirked a little at his comment.
"i look awful..." she murmured. "Hot water sounds like a plan i think" she said, mostly to herself as she tucked the scraggly strands of hair framing her face, behind her ears. She saw, out of the corner of her eye, the green flit appear and she smiled. She liked Valkyrie and, as her thoughts turned to flits, her small fair trilled at her. "definitely a clean dress" she added, muttering to herself. "N'mol, i have time to have a quick bath don't we?" she asked, looking towards him. "or at the very least a quick wash... i need to wash my hair"

N'mol smiled at her coquettish response. "We have time do whatever you want to do." The bath had been his idea, after all. He certainly wasn't going to take it back now, especially if that 'we' she was dangling in front of him was a genuine offer. He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her from behind, placing his head beside hers so he only had to speak in a low voice for her to hear him.
"Grab what you need and I'll carry it for you."

Kindra closed her eyes as N'mol wrapped his arms around her, she almost shuddered deliciously but repressed it, instead taking a deep breath and murmuring back at him "I don't think there's anything we need to carry anywhere" she suggestively purred at him, pulling gently from his embrace and moving towards the bathing area, swaying her hips just a LITTLE more than usual.

N'mol let his grip slide from her as she pulled away, her words assuring him that he didn't need to fear some kind of retribution for taking liberties with her person. A part of his behavior that he had held on to regarding her, his overall restraint, slipped away even as she did. Their relationship had changed enough to allow him to cross those lines now. N'mol watched Kindra go, well-recognizing the intentions in her movements, and a small smile came to his face. Valkyrie and her task were forgotten, or at least pushed aside in favor of a more enticing subject.
N'mol simmered with as much satisfaction as lust as he followed Kindra, loosening the ties on his shirt as he went.
