Ami, being a bit of a curmudgeon, was spending her Christmas in the labs. She had no choice, really, considering her day off had been spent on her birthday, and then her extra reprieve spent with Tori. The unfortunate fact of the matter was that even if she had the day off, she'd probably spend it just reading and doing nothing festive whatsoever.
So work it was. Though there was the occasionally trainee that passed by her area, the labs were eerily empty for the day. Honestly though? She appreciated it. Peace and quiet at last.
Her gifts had all been spent out the night before, as was customary. She was ahead of her schedule due to triple overtime. It was a good day. A good enough Christmas for Ami. A little sad, certainly, because it was her first Christmas at Deus and not with friends or family, but a good enough Christmas. Good enough.

Though it was probably not wise for her to be wandering the halls of Deus, when she was technically 'dead', Kat felt as though she were going to go mad if she stayed cooped up in Lex's room. Not that she wasn't grateful for him giving her a spot to stay right now, but she really needed to get out and walk around. For more than one reason..
Keeping the hood of Lex's hoodie pulled up over her head, she was careful not to make eye contact with any hunters that passed her by. Thankfully, most hunters didn't really pay attention to the people who passed them by, not unless they had some freaky abnormality about them, which made it easy for her to make it to the labs. As she suspected, Ami was hard at work, even on Christmas, so of course she would risk paying her a visit. Its not like many hunters were at the labs today anyways.
"Ami?" She called out, taking a quick glance about the room to make sure no one else was about before she approached the hunter.

She jumped at the voice calling her name, not even hearing the girl come in. Perhaps Kat was extra stealthy, but it was more likely that Ami was simply oblivious when it came anything not concerning her research.
A thin line for a mouth in confusion as she tried to piece together who it could be. Kat's voice, but Lex's hoodie? Admittedly, Ami had worn his coat once, and still had it actually. Perhaps he was fond of giving away his clothes to random ladies? Perhaps ... No that was assuming too much.
The line turned into a light smile as the girl came closer, face visible for Ami to see. "Ah- Hello Kat. Merry Christmas," she said in an airy tone. She noted how Kat seemed to be vigilante, quick glances around the room. "Looking for someone?"

Preoccupied with scoping the room, Ami's look of confusion went unnoticed for the moment. It was only when she spoke up that her attention shifted back to the female life hunter. Offering the girl a smile, she was surprised--well, not really--to find that Ami was still in the labs on Christmas. Normally, the other hunters would be off doing.. Christmasy things.
"Merry Christmas to you as well." pausing, she took another quick look around the room when Ami voiced her question. "Er.. no, I was looking for you actually, but.. I'm technically not supposed to about right now, so.." A sheepish grin crossed Kat's lips, as she moved towards her.
"Why are you working?"

Ami blinked with surprise, astonished that Kat would be looking for her. She'd assumed that Kat would've spent the day with Ryan or Ceres- those she was closer to. She cocked an eyebrow at the fact that Kat wasn't supposed to be about- what did that mean?- but brushed it off. Ami had her secrets, Kat had hers as well.
"I ... Although it's Christmas, I don't have anyone to spend it with and there's not much to do on your own. I already spent my day and a half off, so ... There's not much else to do but work I suppose." She pointed to the notebooks she had out on the table. "I'm documenting the monsters we saw in the labyrinth, and the artifact's powers. It's quite interesting, really."
Although her Christmas was a lonely one, Ami certainly didn't look dissatisfied. Research always made her happy, especially when she had peace and quiet for it. "And you? Scampering about the labs like you have something to hide?" Ami said it jokingly, not realizing that Kat did indeed have something to hide. Her entire person.

Her eyes went wide for a moment as Ami spoke of not having anyone to spend Christmas with. Surely, there must have been someone who she was going to spend it with.. Her gaze landed on the work Ami was documenting, curious, yet bummed to know that this was indeed how the girl decided to spend her Christmas. Puffing her cheeks, she gave Ami a look, tempted to drag her from the labs this instant.
"Er.. well.. yeah. See, I haven't really spoken to any of the leads yet.. I'm aware that they might already know I'm here, but.. I don't know if I'm ready to face any of them quite yet." Especially that scythe wielding a**. Pausing, she grabbed at the life hunters arm, gently leading her away from her work.
"Come on. I'm not having you spend Christmas like this! If you don't have anyone to spend Christmas with, then spend it with me!" she grinned. "And I won't take no for an answer."

Ami looked at her notebooks with a forlorn look, as though they were her own children. She couldn't just leave them. Sighing, she folded them closed nonetheless. When Kat wanted something, Ami knew there was no stopping her.
"Kat," Ami said shortly, but with sympathy. She knew talking to leads was incredibly terrifying- probably 10 fold when it was Caelius. "If you don't inform Caelius, I will. It's not safe, and certainly not cohesive to our lifestyle."
Motherly scolding done, she put her notebooks on a shelf and then took Kat's latched arm more closely to her person. "I suppose if you put it that way, I can't say no." A gentle grin crossed Ami's face. "Let's go to your room though. Mine is a bit messy at the moment." Messy because the floor was covered in new sweaters and books as she sorted them all into their spaces in her spare time. She'd gotten quite a few more presents than she'd expected!

A look of panic crossed the girls face when Ami mentioned speaking with Caelius. Surely, she wouldn't do something like that--at least not Caelius, right? "Uh..er.. well, lets.. talk about that later." Quickly covering her fear with a nervous smile, she urged her forward again. If she was going to talk to anyone, it was going to be one of the other leads--Allan probably..
A little more at ease, her smile widened when she agreed to come along. "Great!" though, at the mention of going to her room..
"Uh, well.. you see, we kind of have a small problem there.." Stopping to scratch the back of her head, Kat gave Ami another sheepish grin. "I'm kind of.. locked out of my dorm, as a result of me supposed to being.. well, dead. So um.. I've been staying in Lex's room for the past few days."
Gawd, that was a bit awkward..

Ami's mouth dropped open in disbelief, but quickly shut out of politeness. "You ah ..." How did she phrase this? Ami didn't want to pry. After all, Kat's social life was her own business.
She frowned, wondering if it was right to ask at all. "Are you two ... an item?" Ami frowned a bit. Something about Lex dating Kat seemed very, very wrong to her, though she couldn't put her finger on what. If Kat was dating Lex, she would be nothing but happy ... right? Her friend had found a suitable match, yes?
So why did it feel so awkward and weird to her? Maybe it was just because she'd never seen Kat in a romantic relationship- she fretted. Scenarios rushed through her head, but she ignored them and waited for Kat's answer.

Kat froze, carefully thinking over what Ami just said. An item..? What the hell did that even--oh--OH GAWD NO! "Er--no! Oh my Go--Uhhh-" Oh Lord, how was she even supposed to talk about this? Upon everything else that had happened, she had never had any conversations like this either. Dear Lord! She was not prepared for this! "Uhh uhh, to make things very clear: We are definitely not dating." to get the point across, she waved her hands frantically, shaking her head.
Lex was a really nice guy, and really good in that department, but to even consider a relationship with him or anyone--oh gawd, no--she was going to pass out. Sucking in a deep breath, she waved lightly. "He's just letting me stay there right now."

Ami let out a sigh of relief. Why she felt relieved was beyond her, but she felt it so she let it happen. Kat wasn't dating anyone, so Ami didn't have to worry about watching Lex like a hawk. Less people to worry about, less stress on her plate, less chance of her dropping everything and turtling once again.
"So you are ... amiable with him, but not ..." She put a tiny hand on her own chin, deep in thought. Kat was free to make her own decisions, but Ami wouldn't have it. She couldn't let Kat sleep in some man's room in good conscience, however highly she thought of the man.
Hands folded, she turned back to Kat and said, "I ... Would you like to stay with me instead? If you want to stay with Lex I don't want to intrude on your affiliation, I just feel ... you might be ... safer? More comfortable? I'm not sure what the right word would be." Ami's awkward way of inviting Kat to stay in her room, because even if Lex was a friend, it didn't sit right with her.

Well, if she was to say anything, she didn't see herself getting that friendly with anyone ever again. Not that she had planned that anyways. Loosing a sigh, she gave a light shrug, shoving her hands into the pockets of the hoodie. Lex was.. nice, and she could see him being a nice guy to have.. any kind of intimacy towards, but she was just not cut out for that. Their 'one night' proved that.
Glancing over at the red head, she cocked her head to the side, looking at her with curious eyes. At the mention of her staying with her, she blinked. She wanted her to stay with her? Really? Not that she minded, she was just a little.. surprised really. A smile began to form on her lips, followed by a nod. "Sure, if you really don't mind that is." At least this way, poor Lex could have his bed back, since she had pretty much taken it over ever since she had been staying in his room.
"You're sure you don't mind though?"

"Absolutely," Ami said, only a hint of hesitation in her voice. She wasn't so sure about her ability to live with another human amiably, but the fact that Kat couldn't stay with Lex any longer was absolute in her mind. Lex and Kat was just ... Ami had no idea how to phrase it. It just felt wrong.
Ami shook her head. "Let's go gather your belongings now."

So they did, Ami knocking on his door. Hopefully he was in. She'd hate to have to stake him out.

Just before Ami had knocked, Lex had finished applying a bandage that featured a handlebar mustache on his chest - Solia had accidentally dug in too hard with her nails the previous day. With a satisfied sigh and a shake of his head, the Life man opened the door wearing only his jeans and boots, and found himself having to look down to see his solicitor.
"Ami, Kat! Hello!" He welcomed, nodding at the both of them, though he found it a little strange that they were visiting - and that Kat was knocking. He'd told her that she was free to just pop in whenever she needed; it wasn't as thought she would catch her temporary roommate doing something shameful.
"Any reason for your visit?" His brow raised, corner of his mouth raising.

Kat was a little excited to be rooming with Ami, for more than one reason, but mainly for the fact it would not be as awkward as it had been with Lex for the past few days. As grateful as she was for Lex to allow her to room with him, she was on edge nearly the whole time he was around. She didn't mean to be, but its just how she was. Waiting outside of his dorm with Ami, she quickly diverted her gaze when Lex answered the door half dressed. This.. this was one of the reasons why she couldn't stay any longer. Sucking in a breath, she tried to hide the fact that her face had gone red once again, giving Ami a light nudge from behind as if to let her know to do all the talking.
