Remind me again why I'm wearing this.

I don't remember making any deal at all.

Can I-

I hate you. So. Much.

Donning a familiar sweater, he peeked out his door, making sure no one was around, and quickly dashed out into the hallway.
Really, why did he even make that bet with Chester anyways? He should of KNOWN he would have lost. A contest to see who would out-annoy the other.
At this point, he was pretty sure Chester had set him up.

Jake grit his teeth, but finally made his way to the cafeteria and plopped down at a table, as far away from any hunters here this damn early in the morning.
A few were only looking his way and snickering.
Even Chester, damnit.

He groaned and slipped the hood over his head, which... really didn't help, considering he now had a pair of fuzzy cat ears on his head, prompting more snickers.
Even after he somewhat "mutilated" the sweater by pulling off the tail and face mask thing, it was, well...
He was pretty sure this was a woman's sweater.
It was tight, uncomfortable, and he looked like an idiot.

Oh, Jake. At least there was one person in the cafeteria who thought that you looked adorable.

Eva had been munching away at her meal quite happily when the boy arrived and, although it seemed impossible, her good mood shot up significantly when she caught sight of what it was that Jake was wearing. Stuffing the last of her food in her mouth, she marched over to the other Death trainee, a wide grin spread over her lips. The young woman moved as quietly as she could, creeping up on him slowly and quietly until...

There! She launched herself at the poor boy, draping over his shoulders with her chin against the top of his hooded head. Laughing, she reached up and gently tweaked one of the cat ears.

"Hi there, Kitten! I knew the hoodie would suit you!" There was a pause, and then she frowned, reaching down to pat his tailbone (...and maybe butt) when she realized that something was missing. "What happened to the tail?"

One hand was tugging at the hood, hoping it could completely hide his face as he was shoveling food into his mouth with a spoon using his other hand.
The faster he got out of here, the better.

I KNOW

How he hated these bets. Why did he even agree to it in the first place?

He was about to put another spoonful in his mouth when he was suddenly pushed forward, the spoon nearly stabbing into his throat.
Dropping the spoon, he spluttered, coughing as he reached for a glass of water.

Damn it Eva, you were going to be the death of him someday.

"I-"

He flinched when her hand patted his backside, and he quickly pushed her hand away.

"WHAT ARE YOU- oh. I took it off."

I only cut the thread, sheesh.

Though he hated the thing, he still took care to only remove the thread that attached the tail to the sweater, leaving the rest of the hoodie intact, and said tail was now sitting in a garbage bin.

...

DAMN IT ALL.

The coughing made Eva pause, and she leaned forward with wide eyes to look at Jake and ensure that he was okay. When it became clear that he was fine--or at least, in a good enough condition to protest when she pat in search for his hoodie's tail--the young woman visibly relaxed...

And sagged over poor Jake's shoulders like a ragdoll. "Aww, Kitten. I thought the tail was cute!" Which was probably precisely the reason he got rid of it, but ah well. At least he was wearing the hoodie at all!

...Which was...a little suspect, honestly. Pausing, Eva leaned back, squinting down at the boy thoughtfully. After a moment passed, a small, wry smile curled on her lips as she propped her hands up on her hips. "Okay, don't tell me. A dare? Lost a bet? I thought I'd have to tackle you and shove the hoodie on to get you to wear it, to be honest, so to see you sitting here with it on already..."

Jake cringed as she draped over him, but didn't protest. It was either the JOY in the air, or the fact that protesting probably would have made her even more touchy.

He did manage to glare at her when she mentioned the tail, and looked away, huffing.
"It's annoying and unnecessary, just like this sweater. Where the hell did you even find this thing?"

When she asked his reasoning for wearing the hoodie, he turned red and dragged a palm down his face.

"I... lost a bet."

The fact that he had accepted the bet in the first place, AND lost was already humiliating, nevermind the fact that he had made the bet with his weapon.
Hopefully, she would't ask who, but who was he kidding. This day was already going downhill the moment he stepped out of his room.

The question earned a little chuckle as Eva lifting her hands to place with his hoodie's cat ears, wriggling them around back and forth. "The same place where I got the bunny hoodie for Wilson, clearly. What, don't you like it?"

She didn't expect that he did, of course, her voice lightly teasing as she reached down to poke him in the cheek. Indeed, Eva was one very touchy-feely individual. Deciding to (kind of) spare him, she finally let go so that she could slide down and into a chair beside the boy instead. Her brows shot up with interest when he confirmed that he had lost a bet, and slowly, a small grin began to creep over her face.

"Is that so?" Would she ask for further details? Of course she would, this was Eva here. "What kind of bet? And with who?"

He wasn't sure if he was supposed to be horrified or relieved that someone else got stuck with wearing something ridiculous. Though, this was Wilson, and the hunter was already kinda weird in his books, so, the guy would probably like something like that... or something.

Seeing as she finally stopped playing with the hood, he pulled it off, and glared at her some more when she sat down beside him, scooting his chair away.

And then she had to ask.

He instantly regretted telling her, but what was he going to say? That he WANTED to wear it? Either way, he'd only be digging himself a deeper hole.

"I made a bet... with my weapon." he muttered. "If I won, he'd shut up for a whole week. If he won, I'd have to wear this stupid thing for a day."

He paused.
"Ok, well, HE suggested it, but it was too tempting to turn down. I should have known better."

You're just getting me back for the time I called you a Cheshire cat, aren't you?

Jake frowned.
He so was.

A bet...with his weapon? Eva stared at him blankly for a moment--while studiously ignoring the fact that he not-so-subtly scooted away from her--before cracking a grin and emitting a surprised laugh. "Oh, Kitten. You should know better than to make a bet with someone who's in your head. Sometimes I swear that Chara knows me better than I do." Chuckling, she leaned back, setting her elbow up on the armrest and using that to prop up her chin.

"So, what was the bet?"

Of course she would ask. This was Eva, after all--you didn't start a story from the end, you started from the beginning! And so, she wanted to know the exact bet that resulted in Jake's weapon's win and the consequential donning of the hoodie.

Which, by the way, was super cute in Eva's opinion. Okay sure, it didn't...exactly suit Jake, but that was okay!

Dammit Jake, stop talking.
He glared at her, wishing he had just stopped talking. He should have never left his room.

I KNOW

He fidgeted with the sleeves and turned his head, refusing to make eye contact.

"He wanted to see who could annoy the other more. I thought it was kind of stupid considering everything I did grated on his nerves, but then he suggested the bet, and, well, I thought I would win. A week without him nagging me about trivial things sounded pretty tempting."

He looked down at his sleeves, picking at a thread.

"We each had a day to try to grate on the other's nerves as much as we could. If they complained once or admitted defeat, then you win."

He flustered.
"It's stupid, I know."

The trainee had tried EVERYTHING, from insulting every single hunter he ran into, not eating anything more than an apple for the whole day, training for hours straight without taking a break, running several of the training courses again (and doing horribly on purpose so that he'd end up with injuries), but the weapon hadn't made a single peep.

As for him, the weapon hadn't even gone through 5 Christmas carols before Jake begged him to stop.

There won't BE a next time. I'm done making bets with you.

Eva tried not to laugh. She tried really, really hard.

Really.

However, it still wasn't enough, and despite her best intentions, the young woman let out a stream of giggles when she learned the details of the bet. The two of them had tried to out-annoy one another? While Eva was giggling wildly at this revelation, in her head, Chara was...rather unamused by the news. In fact, had she had a physical body to show emotion from, her face probably would have been something like: neutral .

Really. Jake's weapon--... A sigh, and then a grumbled, At least he won, I suppose. I'd be most disappointed if a fellow weapon were to lose, seeing as we are in your heads. Chara knew that all she would have to do to tick off Eva was talk incessantly in the middle of the night and prevent her from getting any sleep. Of course, that was cruel and unhealthy...which was probably the only reason Chara really avoided doing it.

When Eva finally collected herself, she reached forward to give the boy a hug, whether he wanted it or not. "You guys are so cute. And good job, Chester!" Chester...Chester, right? She recalled Jake introducing the weapon to her before, but her memory with names was a little...

When Eva started laughing, the boy's face turned bright red (or as red as his dark skin allowed it to turn), and pulled the hood back over his head.
Idiot. He was an idiot.

Happy?! She's making fun of me.

The hug had been unexpected, but he made no move to pull away.
With all that had happened so far, the last thing he wanted to do was humiliate himself further by showing that all this was only making him more uncomfortable.

"Stop encouraging him." he muttered.

YOU-

He couldn't believe he fell for it.
Worse. Day. Ever.

It was official, Jake and Chester were the cutest hunter-weapon pair in Deus Ex. Or at least, they were one of the cutest partner pairs in Eva's mind. She was still giggling slightly when she pulled away from Jake, her lips spread into a grin. "I'll encourage Chester if I want," She replied, sticking her tongue out at him before reaching out to, er, lift Jake's coat so that she could catch the glimpse of the keys that were his weapon's unsummoned form. Or rather, instead of just looking at them, she gave the keys a thumbs up and a solemn nod.

"Continued to keep Kitten in check, okay Chester? We're all counting on you!"

You're asking Jake's weapon to keep Jake in check...while I'm the one who keeps you in check. Does this seem a little ironic, or is it just me?

Struggling to look up at the purple jeweled clip in the hair, Eva made a face, and then turned back to look at Jake. "Soooo? The hoodie is warm and soft at least, right? I mean, at least I didn't buy you something else. Imagine losing a bet and wearing a frilly dress instead!"

Did she just... stick her tongue out at him?
He was about to make a retort, when she reached out and grabbed his coat.
What was she-

Jake only stared blankly at her when she gave the keys a thumbs up.

.........................

"He says you're annoying and should shove off."

The runic etchings on the keys flickered softly.

Seeing Eva struggling to look at her hairclip, he smirked.
"Looks like I'm not the only one with a nosy weapon. "

When she mentioned a dress though, he immediately frowned.
"No. And don't even THINK about it. I swear I will burn it if you do. I will. Don't test me."
No bets in the world would lead him wearing a dress. EVER.

She made a face at Chester's supposed words, reaching out to gently flick Jake on the forehead. "You can't fool me! I may have never...talked to Chester one on one, but considering that he's the type to keep you in line, I don't think he'd tell me to shove off. That sounds more like you."

Of course, she obviously wasn't at all upset. Without hesitation, she reached up to give the boy an affectionate hair ruffle, maybe sneaking in a little noogie before drawing away. "I...well, yeah, I won't deny that Chara can be pretty nosy," She admitted, ignoring the immediate protest from the gorgon, "But I don't know where I'd be without her, y'know? Appreciate your partner, Kitten--they help keep us alive." Not only by giving them tips, but also by being their actual, physical weapons in this place.

Eva had to bite down on her bottom lip at his vehement disgust when she mentioned giving him a dress, struggling not to laugh. Despite how against it he was--or perhaps because of how against it he was--the young woman couldn't help but imagine just what he would look like if she had thought to pick something up for him. Something cute, and teal, and frilly, and-

She promptly burst out laughing, wrapping her arms around herself as she keeled over.

Busted.

"Well, whatever. I mean what I say." he huffed, crossing his arms.

He grimaced at the hair ruffle, annoyed that he was still being treated like a little kid, or some kind of pet, and scowled at her, but her words did hold some truth. To be honest, he was actually kind of surprised Chester was still able to put up with him, despite the way he treated him, and the nasty things he often called him. And, well, he supposed the weapon did do a decent job of keeping him out of harm's way... most of the time.

Of course, he would never admit this... or really have to, since Chester already knew.
Damn it, he had to stop thinking out loud.

And then Eva's expression made him snap out of the thought.
"What are you-"
His eyes widened as she burst into laughter, toppling over.
Was she... oh dear lord no.

"Are you... what are you-"
Getting out of his chair, he grabbed her shoulders and gave her a firm shake.
"STOP THINKING ABOUT IT. JUST... STOP THINKING. STOP."
