This is a scientific guild. While it would be nice to say all these things such as, "What if the world was a giant meatball?" or whatever, it serves no purpose. If you're going to create a thread, at least back your idea with some kind of science or use at all. Not trying to be rude here, but this is a guild with purpose.

I think Discovery or TLC did a thing about dragons about a year or two ago.

Anyway in early myths about dragons they did not breath fire. In fact some of spite water or acid. If you think bombardier beetle mixed with a spitting cobra you can easily see where the stories of them breathing fire came from.

i remember that show it was a good one

yeah i know that it was said that it was an ambush creature almost like the t rex

ive always wondered what would happen if youput a bomberdier beetle into a heated area of temperatures greater than that of 100 degrees celcius

Oh, you vicious b*****d. XD I love it, let's do it. XD

Breathing fire couldn't happen - somewhere on Gaia (I think - could have been elsewhere) someone was talking about how the amount of food a dragon could eat wouldn't support the loss of mass every time it breathed fire. Not to mention it flying, oy... rolleyes

not all of them fly only a select few can (or would have for you non believers) but the few that could were really small and probly glided instead of flied.. the large majority were land based creatures

But you forget water dragons. There was a number of them that lived in and around water. The most famus water dragons are river spirits and leviathans. These dragons ofter lived deep in the water or lived life in much the sameway as crocodiles and alligators.

Dragons that could fly may have turned their air bladder (a liftover from some water-living ancestor) to hold a gas lighter than air. This may also be used to start fires if there is a spark near by. Some think that like electric eels and electric rays, dragons may have had electric cells in their mouths. They could have used this to light the gas their air bladder to shoot out blast of fire.

leviathans supossedly were huge so for them to evolve (or devolve) the something of that size would be quite dramatic and to generated enough electricity would consume massive amounts of energyprobly killing the poor creature in an extremely short period of time

Yea, maybe but some others think that maybe they ate rocks (like some animals still do today) and the types of rocks they ate made the speark when they rubbed together. Think of them holding a flint in their mouths or between thier teeth, and when they move thier teeth in the right way boom you with fire.

But the oddest thing is not all dragons breathed fire. Like I said before some of them shot jets of water or acid. There was two other types, one that shot blots of energy and one that make strong blast of wind (either by there wings or lungs), but these types of dragon are very rare and only pop up in a few stories and myths.

the acid spitting you heard about was stomach acid it was used to help predigest larger prey, and the energy bolts? thats a bit farfetched it takes massive amounts of energy for electricity to move (correct if im wrong please, but i think its 10,000 volts for every inch?)

I belive Dragons were made up by people finding Dino bones...thats why all dragons look somewhat similar to the T-rex and other dinos.

Pfff what are you guys on about?

Dragons weren't dinosaurs. Dragons were dragons.

They became extinct through over hunting by men in the dark ages. Stupid men and their stupid "hahahah I'm a knight in shiny shiny armour! I kill you!".

Anyway, that's what happened.
