(All the family members can join in at any point!!!)

Many times had Samawati wandered the pride lands with his niece by his side, constantly being badgered by friendly strangers who assumed her to be his daughter. It was not their fault that his niece, daughter of Samawati’s deceased twin, was an almost exact copy of her uncle but it still annoyed the golden Scout to hear such comments.

Now he was experiencing the exact opposite situation and finding that it bothered him just as much. His little adventure in the rogue lands with his mate, made longer by a string of unusual events, had led to the sudden creation of a fairly large family that he’d brought back to the pride with Sarabi. The fact that none of the cubs minimally resembled their adoptive parents had barely crossed his mind until he’d entered the pride borders and faced the reactions of others. It was bothersome to constantly explain his new family situation – especially to those who knew both him and Sarabi and could see that none of the cubs shared any sort of family resemblance.

Coming home from his shift near the pride borders, Samawati yawned loudly and shook his body from head to tail as he reached the mouth of his den, releasing some of the tenseness that had accumulated during the day. His usually stern expression allowed a small smile to form as he thought of the little stampede of cubs that would surely follow his arrival. His cubs.

Ulaghai was far from tired.

The little scamp had been bouncing between keeping himself occupied and napping throughout much of the day. He was still young, his paws too large, his legs short and stubby, and he needed a great deal of rest, just as any little cub would need. Samawati just so happened to return to the den between one of those napping sessions and the gray furred cub was quick to dart out from the comfortable pile that was his siblings to rub against the older male's legs.

"Da!"

He weaved between Samawati's paws, his tail swishing this way and that with typical feline curiosity. As usual, he practically threw himself in the way, but his actions were out of love just as much as they were an attempt to gain attention.

"Didja see anything awesome today? Were you guarding the borders again?" He was too small to venture that far on his own, but that didn't stop him from being thirsty for stories of the unknown.

Samawati chuckled when he felt something in his legs – he’d still been stretching his neck with his eyes closed by the time the familiar voice had reached him. He could tell it was Ulaghai even before opening up his eyelids and the Scout grinned as he looked down and sought a pair of expectant grey eyes.

“Today was amazingly-…!” the golden lion said as he lowered his head to the cub, eyes wide and an expression of astonishment that quickly turned into mock seriousness. “…boring.”

Samawati was still a rather young lion who hadn’t even been fully grown at the time of the last war with the hyenas from the Graveyard pack and the betrayal and death of his twin had caused a stern composure to become the most familiar part of his character. That said, Sarabi – and now the cubs – seemed intent on returning the Scout to what he’d once been and Samawati could feel a certain playfulness returning to him even if it was still hiding beneath the surface.

“Just birds and hares as far the eye could see.” the Scout nearly tripped on the cub as he moved forward, eyes seeking the den to see if Ulaghai’s siblings would be joining them soon. “What have you been up to?”

His ears perked and his eager, expectant eyes pinned on his father as he spoke, but he deflated a bit at "boring." He didn't much like boring, hence why he often made his own fun - though it usually came at the expense of others.

"Just hares and birds, huh? There's gotta be something cooler than that out there." As Samawati moved further into the den, the predominately gray and white cub tried to scramble up onto his father's back, making half attempts to leap and jump here and there, even going so far as to bat at the male's tail tuft. He wanted to play, which was far more than obvious in his demeanor If he ever suspected he was adopted, it was something he never had and never would acknowledge. In his mind, Samawati and Sarabi were his father and mother and always would be.

"Oh! Uhm, I found a beetle. I named him Beetle. I brought him home, but he ran off somewhere, I can't find him anymore." He frowned slightly, as he had been enamored with his temporary "pet."

( We can open this to the rest of the family, if you'd like? C: )

Samawati remained silent, thinking of all the things “out there” that wouldn’t normally be described as cooler. Things that could be very dangerous to a curious cub who decided to sneak to the border which was why the golden lion had already talked with Bushiri about teaching all his cubs to defend themselves. It was hard to tell if they were old enough to start that kind of training but it couldn’t hurt to drop a cautious word here and there and hope that a small part of it would sink in the young cubs’ minds.

Because it was quite difficult to remain serious when there was a cub bouncing around his paws, climbing up to his back and attacking his tail, Samawati decided to leave that conversation for another time.

“Well, you know… beetles tend to do that. They don’t make great pets.” Lion cubs didn’t really make great pet owners either. The poor conveniently named little bug was obviously long gone by now – or at least he would be if he was smart. “Are the others sleeping?”
