Most people hated pod duty because it was boring. Ofelia actully enjoyed it for that reason, it allowed her the chance to just relax and sit and watch faces. It was like having a personal television on at all times as sometimes the people on the screens would make faces in their sleep. It may have been a chore but for the redhead it was a good way to pass the time. Sadly, or thankfully (she couldn't tell) Ofelia wasn't alone in her chore, not this time, and she looked over at the death trainee who was going to be with her for the shift. Somehow Ofelia had managed to wrangle Jake in and she regretted nothing.
"Pod duty is really easy, jus' look at the monitors from time ta time an' look at some charts." That was the easiest way for her to explain it.

Before had been podded for several weeks. Practically over a month. It may have been the most peace he's had since he woke up wearing a faceless gas mask and completely devoid of his memories. Why he had been podded in the first place was simple: Tardiness. A punishment that was supposed to last only a few days. A week, tops!
Except whoever had been assigned to unpod him seemed to have forgotten about him and left him sleeping since November. If Before had been awake or conscious of this fact, he wouldn't be surprised. A little saddened maybe but not surprised. He will, however, track down who it was and will make sure he or she never got another taste of his baking >C
But as it was, Before continued to slumber and remained as one of the many sleepers. For how long, though?

Jake only stared at the pods, remembering he had woken up from one not that long ago. How long had it been now... 2 months? 3?
He had lost track of time, and it already seemed like he had been here for a while
He tilted his head.
Two missions and... some smaller-scale stuff.
Then there was training...
Ofelia's talking jolted him out of the daydream, and he sat up.
Monitors? Charts?
"What's the point of pod duty? Are we waiting for someone to wake up?"
It seemed kinda creepy, watching dormant faces, never knowing if they would see the light of day again.
However, curiosity got the better of him, and he leaned in to get a closer look at some of the faces.
Stopping at a particular pod, he frowned.
He wasn't sure from where, but this face looked kinda familiar...

"S'not that we're waitin' on anyone in specific, we're jus' here ta make sure nothin' goes wrong or, in the random case someone does wake up, we're here ta get 'em on the right path." Ofelia was flipping though a chart that had been set nearby as she walked, clearly uninterested in what it had to say but rather enjoying looking at the dates. Eventually she settled down in front of the screens, readying herself for a night of uneventful viewing, when she happened to glance up and see the face that Jake was also looking at.
Her heart stopped in her chest. There was no need to explain anything, nothing at all, and Ofelia was out of the room so quickly her chair was knocked over in the process. She didn't tell Jake what she was doing or where she was going as she entered the rows of pods; all she did was run down them until she stopped in front of the one she'd seen lit up only seconds ago. "Clover!" Her cry was weak as she placed both her hands on the pod, looking at the face of a person she had been wanting to see for so long. "Jake! Jake, get over here! Ah need ya ta read sommin' fer me!"
It was like admitting defeat about her reading but that was all old hat if she could find out why Before was inside a pod.

Before didn't stir despite Ofelia's voice. He might not even be able to hear her should he be awake. The runic devices recording and managing his vital signs didn't change or fluctuate or even register any minor changes. He was going to remain asleep indefinitely. Maybe when he woke up, he should have a talk to Clarice and suggest they add in some sort of timer to these things. Maybe.

Right... path?
He vaguely re-called being greeted by another hunter when he first woke up.
Sheesh, if his mind wasn't so clouded with JOY, maybe he could remember...
The trainee wasn't given the time to ponder the moment farther as the redhead bolted out of her seat, and he only stared at her in stunned silence.
What... just happened?
Hearing his name called, he got up and made his way to where Ofelia was.
"Um... what do you need me to read?"

Ofelia didn't answer right away, instead tapping on the pod once or twice more before she quickly moved over to the controls. It didn't matter what he was in for (which was what she'd have Jake check), She wanted him out, she wanted to hug him and then punch him so hard in the gut for making her worry about him.
The pod hissed as it opened and a machine nearby beeped. Ofelia punched it with her fist to shut the sound off and keep any techs from coming over. "Jake, check that chart an' tell me what the hell he was in here for." She sounded angry, if it were possible, but at the same time the relief in her voice was more than evident.
The chart was tossed at the younger trainee and Ofelia reached in to pull Before out from where he was laying. If he wasn't awake yet he certainly would be soon thanks to her hands touching both of his shoulders and yanking him forward with a heavy shake. "Clover! Clover, open yer eyes!"[A.V.] for taking so long with this

Before never knew the exact protocol for waking a sleeper from their pods. What he remembered from his own awakening involved someone asking him whether he wished to remain sleeping or to move on with his life. He'd been, at the time, not quite awake but not entirely asleep either. Unlike now. The Mist had been completely asleep during this particular podding.
No nightmares. No pleasant dreams. Just floating in an odd void that he wasn't entirely aware of. It was in its own way peaceful and comforting. The silence a lovely calm and a welcoming solitude as opposed to oppressive and lonely.
It did not last long long. Before wasn't sure how nothingness could quake and rock and jerk him around but it did. The runic technology that kept his muscles from atrophying had not prepared him for the rough shaking he was being subjected to.
Teal eyes screwed shut even tighter, lips pulling back to bare grit teeth as Before struggled to resist. He liked the quiet. He liked the floaty peace. He didn't want to go back to the harsh light and the harsh life that awaited him upon waking.
But then Vanna's voice found him and began to scold him. Then a second voice joined the devil shield's and Before couldn't ignore them both. Scowling, Before tried to raise his arms, or rather flap them in his own attempt to shake off whatever it was that was rattling him about.
"Five more minutes, Constance..." he whined.Rown Is k bby. How's your hip? And Merry Christmas!!

Instead of reading the chart like asked, he only stared at Ofelia when she opened the pod.
He might not have remembered exactly HOW they were supposed to wake someone up, but he was pretty sure that only the higher-ups were in charge of something like this. Something about the odder waking up insane or dead if done incorrectly.
When the body came to life, Jake just kinda... stared, Ofelia's task for him forgotten.
Had she... managed to wake him up... by herself?
He frowned as he stared at the face, wondering where he saw this person before.Huni Pi Merry Christmas to you too! o u o

"Clover, please. Open yer eyes." This might have been the first time Jake ever saw Ofelia act tender or overly concerned towards a person. She moved her hands from Before's shoulders and placed both on either side of his face before one of them moved to brush his hair back. He felt like he was okay, there wasn't an illness that could have resulted in him being placed in, and that prompted a sigh of relief as she moved the hand back down to his face. "Clover it's me, Ofelia." She paused to say the name she knew he called her. "It's Dinah."
She didn't know what else to say, what else to do, and she looked to Jake again. "Jake, the chart. What's it say 'bout why he's in here?" He was just staring at her and she wanted to slap the look from his face and make him work on her request. That would mean she needed to take her hands from Before and she was worried if she let go he could lapse back into whatever was happening. "Was it an illness, an injury? A punishment?" Her voice sort of softened on the last word. There was a chance she did something wrong by letting him out but that wasn't going to weigh on her mind. "How long was her in there?" Before didn't want to wake up, not even with Vanna's nagging and that second voice's pleading. But then the names finally seemed to slip past the haze and Before begrudgingly let one eye crack open.
Not a lot, mind. The sharp glare of lights had him squinting and the feel of hands on his face kept him from turning away.
"Bzzuh?" he muttered in confusion, his voice slurred, his mind jarred and vision disjointed.

The death trainee blinked at the two.
...Clover? Dinah?
Was that... Ofie's real name?
No wait... maybe a pet name...
Ofelia's voice made him snap out of the thought, and he blinked.
Oh, right, the chart.
He looked at it, frowning.
"Um... it says he's been in here since November... as punishment for being late... for something."
Squinting, he stared at the screen some more.
Late for what though? A mission? Meeting?
It must of been pretty important if he was podded for being late, but then again... stuff happening at Deus was usually pretty important.

"Is that all? They left him locked in here that long?" Ofelia kept her hands on Before's face for a moment, looking to Jake to ask him why. It looked as though she was thinking on what to do, her expression a mixture of unhappiness and confusion, and eventually she just pulled one of her hands back.
A strong slap was delivered to Before's cheek, enough that her hand stung and it left a pretty red welt to start welling up on his face. "Clover ya better open yer eyes or so help me Ah'mma take ya outside and strip ya naked in the snow."
The threat was sort of idle but he didn't need to know that.

It could be said that the pod's opening caused whatever mechanism required to trigger a sleeper's awakening to kick in. It could also said that the slap to the face made Before's vitals massively spike up from mild terror and furious outrage. Bleary teal eyes eventually cleared, the Mist's mouth pulled down in an uncharacteristic scowl as he tried to regain his bearings.
he growled, gingerly rubbing his cheek. "I was gonna get up, y'know."
Liar! Vanna scoffed, the face wrought from metal a steely mirror of her bonded's expression. You would have happily let yourself stay asleep while I could do little but twiddle my non-existent thumbs, selfish Before! Oh the guilt card was being played was it?
Before snorted then finally acknowledged he wasn't alone and that the person who had smacked him was standing right in front of him. Teal eyes brightened and his entire demeanor changed drastically. "Dinaaaaaah!!" he greeted, completely oblivious to Jake's presence as he all but threw his arms around Ofelia. Or, rather, he tried to. There were still the matter of wires and probes attached to him and nearly gotten him tangled up in.

Jake was still staring at the chart.
"Apparently so..."
The slap made him snap his head up, and he only gaped at Ofelia.
Did she just...
And then her "threat" made him cringe. Hadn't she threatened with something like that some time ago?
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Ofelia was CLEARLY someone you did not want to mess with. Even his joy-addled brain remembered this lesson quite well.
His gaze went to the brown-haired hunter who seemed to be slowly waking up, and then... he kinda just tackled Ofie.
Jake just stood there staring at the two, feeling like he was interrupting something.
Should he... leave?
