Moto'seide was just about to leave for the training grounds. It had been cool and relaxing in her personal den, quiet, and she went without disturbance.

Surprising, given the amount of interviews she'd been making the last few days. It was good to see the Firekin so interested in the position, though she had to wonder how much was uneducated fascination and how much was actual interest.

The afternoon sun had begun to cool, and the sands were beginning to lose their heat as she stepped out onto them. Only, when she stepped out of the den, she wasn't alone.

No, it seemed someone was about to head in, or was simply perched out politely waiting for her to wake up. It was hard to say which, but there was no denying the small, red ball of fluff that was either lost, bored, or there for a purpose. Given his eyes were focused on her, she had a guess that the juvenile had a purpose.

"Firekin," she greeted him. "How can I serve you?"

Plamen had found a cub could hear interesting things when one made oneself unnoticable. He had worked hard at being ignored so that he could listen in on what the adults were saying. After the meeting he had heard something that was very interesting. There was a temporary position opening up. Word was Moto'Seide was holding interviews. The young male had decided to try as this was something his father couldn't tell him he couldn't do because he was too young.

The bright red male had tried several other courses to help his pride to be overruled by parantage. He had snuck off before his parents found out about this and told him he couldn't do it either. Plamen had settled himself outside the training grounds to wait for her. Finally she came into sight and he stood. Suddenly not quite so sure about this.

"Corporal Moto'Seide, I'm Plamen'Bharata and I've come to apply." He tried to meet her eyes evenly, so she wouldn't see how nervous he was.

The Legate had not been expecting this purpose at her door. Perhaps, maybe, a cub come to plead that their parents not join the Sentinel group and leave them behind. However, offering to become a leader, well, what an ambitious young child. Though she first debated telling him he could not hold the position, in the end she decided to humor him.

"Very good, soldier," Moto'Seide told the cub.

"The interview will start now." The Legate's eyes stayed even as she continued to meet Plamen's. When he did not seem to change his mind, Moto'Seide continued.

"First, I will test your brain. If my army was ten lions strong, and the Nergui has captured three of them, what is the size of my remaining army?"

Apologies for delay.

Plamen almost, almost, wiggled when she called him a soldier. He managed to stop after just half a wiggle. The bright red male tried not to fidget under her gaze and managed to keep his blinks to a couple before she proceeded. Feeew! He'd managed to pass the first part. Now it really would begin. Sit up straight, and full attention he listened closely as she posed her question. Oh this really was a test. Maybe a cub would resort to counting on his toes, but not him.

"Siiix....." he paused to think about it once more, then shook his head. "No you have seven lions remaining in your army." Plamen twitched back his ears at the serious question he was about to ask. "Are the three of them that got captured bad Firekin?" He really didn't want foolish lions in his army.

"Correct," Moto'Seide rewarded immediately.

His question made her thick brows raise slightly on her skull. Dark eyes surveyed him for a moment.

"No," came her answer. "They may have been captured by exceptionally talented Nergui." There my have been corporals and generals that disagreed with this notion. However, the Firekin were not as ruthless as many would believe.

"As a leader, you will need to discipline your soldiers. If the three Firekin were captured after disobeying an order, what would you do to reprimand their behavior upon their reinstatement into the pride?"

He'd done it. Wouldn't his parents be proud when he told them? But that was only the first question. The young male readied himself for more. Plamen nodded slowly as he saw the logic in her answer. One can't always be best. So just because they were captured by a superior lion or force didn't make them bad. He was relieved and ready to face her next question.

It proved to be a tougher one that just counting. What did one do with errant members? He nibbled his lip as he tried to think of all the reasons a soldier would disobey him. Bad reasoning. He was a bad leader. They didn't care. They had information they weren't sharing. There was a lot of reasons he could come up with. He glanced at Moto to see if she was growing impatient.

"May I ask a clarification? Why did they disobey? What was their reason?" He twitched his tail as he hoped she would give him more information. Plamen didn't feel he could rightfully decide without it. If he had soldiers that did disobey and they came back, he liked to think he would ask them why before disciplining them.

"It was a scouting mission." The large Legate took a moment to ponder that this young juvenille was thinking more critically that many of her adult soldiers.

"The army was divided into two groups of three and one group of four. They were ordered to report back immediately if they encountered the enemy and not to engage them. Upon seeing only two lions suspected to be Nergui, the three attempted to attack instead."

Moto'Seide's tail swayed quietly behind her, and she waited with unrivaled patience for him to think over his answer.

Plamen took in the new information. Did it change anything? Yes, if it was a scouting mission the rest of the pride needed to know the information they had found. Why did they do it then? Probably, he thought, for glory. Feeling that three could easily take on two. If they were suspected of being Nergui then it could have been a trap to lure in unwary lions. He turned his attention fully back on his questioner.

"I'm sorry to keep you waiting," he bobbed his head in apology. Now he had to put his thoughts into words. "They were sent on a scouting mission to gather information for the pride. Instead it sounds like they sought glory instead of bring vital information back. It also may have been a trap with the two lions as bait to lure in Firekin and then attack with a larger hidden force." He paused for a breath.

"If all three had been captured, then their mission has failed." He paused to consider what would be a suitable punishment. The young lion wanted the punishment to fit the crime. "They were charged with bringing back vital information, thus I would do the following: the three lions would be confined to quarters and training grounds until they were able to report on a piece of useful information."

The Legate had never seen such politeness out of such a young Firekin. In fact, Plamen would put many adults to shame.

Moto'Seide fancied such speaking skill would be better used to spread the knowledge of history, but the red lioness was not present to make judgements on life decisions.

"Very well," Moto'seide concluded the discussion after the answer was received. The other Firekin had not known the immediate impressions of their leader an the Legate would not change her policies, even for a juvenile.

"There is one last task. A Legate requires skill in battle. If you still wish to pursue your application, find a sparring partner and return to me in three days time."

An uncontrolled burst of amusement caused the corners of her mouth to twitch. "You are dismissed, soldier."

Fin! Would you be up for another rp if I got him that sparring partner? XD Backlogged of course.

Now that he'd spoken his answer, he wasn't so sure it sounded good. Was it harsh enough? Too cubby? The Legate revealed nothing of what she thought of his answer. Plamen thought he would have to report his failure to his parents, when she gave him one last hope.

He perked his ears up at the challenge she offered. "Yes Ma'am! I'll see you in three days!" Plamen laughed as he gave a quick salute when she dismissed him. He turned and scampered off, heading right for the training grounds. The young cub was eager to try his paws at sparring.

(( For the life of me, I cannot remember if I responded to this in the thread or not. I feel like I did. But, just in case: The answer is absolutely! More RP is welcome. ))
