It had been quite some time since the old doe had been seen out in the swamp. She once was a prominent figure, well-known and friends with many. But over the past few years she had grown somewhat reclusive, begging time off from being social and redirecting her energies to more introspective and personal things. Traveling, reading- maybe she had even found a way to knit. No one really knew what Berrybramble had been doing that kept her away from the swamp's other residents.

But it would all come to an end today. The old doe had recently been contacted by a select few family members, begging for a visit to make sure that she was of sound body and mind. The latter was questionable, the old doe chuckled to herself, but it would be allowed. With surprise, Berrybramble realized that she missed her family. It had been far, far too long! So on a mild day of the cold season, Berry opened up her home; it wasn't much, really, just the hollowed out trunk of what must have been a massive tree. Reed and thistle hung over the entrance, a makeshift door for the neat and orderly doe. She had a few comforts inside; a soft bed, some colorful bird feathers hanging as decoration, and a small feast arrayed neatly for when her guests arrived.

So outside she waited, tail swish-swishing as the only outward show of excitement while bright eyes scanned the horizon, waiting for her family to come.
