Dark portals are supposed to appear after raising DEI to 100. If one appears and you haven't, it's a glitch and the demons shall be weak.
But... unless you are just doing random repeat stages DO NOT ENTER THE GLITCHED DARK PORTAL!
Especially if you are on a story map, or during chapter 7. You might greatly glitch your game, skip chapters, or even lock yourself out of your chapter and hope you won't save (doomed to restart the game cmpletely)

In this game, power is way above strategy. Train a lot, use a lot of dark portal circles, and train Culotte! He may not be very powerful now, but he'll be your star magic-user in the near future. I my opinion, though he's not very physical, he's pretty strong. But not if you don't power him up, so get to it! Don't be afraid to put him in physical battles, either. Same for Aloutte, but leave her for healing magic. Offensive magic (aside from her own unique specials) is not her forte.
Always defend your backside! Until you are powerful enough to smite people, do not let your back or sides be attacked! Always turn and face the direction you think will be attacked. If all fails, cover your back against an obstacle, wall, hole or another character.
Have lots of HP/SP restoring items! Special attacks eat up a large chunk of SP, especially if you're using a lot of Prier Specials or Duet Specials. Be ready to restore SP at any moment, and don't let yourself be caught without magic.

One more thing...
Raise Eclair and Culotte, even if you hate them and find them weak. Raise them as it will ^[save your butt in one chapter where you can only battle with them for one battle and are very restricted in your characters]^
Plus, as someone said, Culotte is awsome as a mage. He's got the second best magic growth in the game. He's only topped by Monya-Monya (AKA, cuteness incarnated)

Ya They have a lote of health... very anoying. And is there a fast way of leveling up?

Yes, sweet indeed. Though I didn't know Monya-Monya was a magic type. I kept him because he was fun to use, but was upset because he didn't have any specials. Even though he's got the best magic growth, doesn't mean he does the most magic damage, does he?

Even though he's got the best magic growth, doesn't mean he does the most magic damage, does he? True, his magic damage is nothing WOW, but the base learning rate is 2, the fastest in the game. Plus, it's relatively easy to just fuse a nice weapon for magic.
