She never thought she would have actually missed Fsi. Not in a thousand years... even with a hurt ankle, a mostly empty stomach, and no friends to speak of... she'd been happy with her lot in life. And when she'd met Xiuhcoatl she thought everything was going swimmingly; he seemed a proper sort of lion. Kind, caring... and told her everything she wanted to hear. If she'd been smarter perhaps she would have seen something wrong in that, but Shahidi desperately had wanted to find a lion that was good and kind in comparison.

He'd quickly shown his true colors on their seventh night together... luckily her paw had been mostly healed and she'd been able to get away, but not without a few slashes from his claws on her side and near her face. She'd wished... when the horrible event was happening that Fsi had been there to bash the lion's head in. At least, she had in the beginning and felt sick to her stomach every time she thought of it afterwards.

Still.. no matter how gruffly or demanding Fsi had been... he'd never once tried to touch her.

So she found herself in the savannah; hungry, alone and defeated. She sat under a tree, at least able to find shade, and leaned against it with her eyes shut. She was trying desperately not to sob.

To say that Fsi had left his pet alone would be a lie. The lion watched from afar, making sure he was able to keep his scent on the down low from the pair. He remembered the first thought that went though his mind the very first time he saw the lone male lion approach his pet.

Something wasn’t right.

That was his initial thought. He knew male lions, he knew how they take advantage of others. Hell, he was one of those type of lions. Fsi had never met a lion who wasn’t in it just to be a good guy; there was always some kind of underlying theme. And in just mere days of being with the lion, Fsi could sense something wrong.

He didn’t act on this. He needed his pet to learn her lesson. She shouldn’t have left him. Fsi was nothing but nice to her (nice in his own standard).

Deciding now was the best time to make his grand entrance, he decided to do so. He brought no gifts this time- he didn’t want to give anything to someone who was undeserving. Yet, the lion did, somewhere in the back of his heart, feel sorry for the female.

“Did you learn anything pet?” He asked softly, though his eyes still had the hardness to them. They showed his displeasure with her attempt to run.

When she first heard his voice she thought she might have been imagining it, but as her eyes flared open and she saw him her heart jumped. "Fsi!" She gasped, jumping up and slightly away from the tree.

Then reality quickly smacked her in the mind and she stumbled back, slightly moving behind the tree. "I-I-I mean..." She didn't want to call him master... she wouldn't! He'd left her! He'd gone... why was he here?

And his words... were they mere coincidence or did he know something? Why are you here?" Her voice was slightly strangled, terrified.

Fsi did not like when she address him as his name. He let it slide---for now.

“Why am I here? Why, it’s obvious isn’t it?” To the purple lion it was. To others, probably not so much. He decided to elaborate.

“I never left you truly. Instead, I watched you, made sure you nor the other…male…wouldn’t sense me. Seemed to work,” he said to his amusement, eyeing the female. If she expected him to apologize, she was far wrong. Fsi wouldn’t let the lion kill her, but he needed her to learn from the experience. She needed him to know that she was wrong!

“You are my pet. And I don’t let my pets go that easily,” as much as their fight together was bad, Fsi-toyo still claimed her as his own.

“Which still leaves me with my previous question. Did you learn anything from your time away from me, pet?”

It wasn't obvious to Shahidi, who wanted so much to be free of Fsi. Even if she'd had her moment of weakness, her moment of wanting him there to protect her. She would have to learn to protect herself... but how could she do that now that he'd returned?

Her ears perked and her eyes widened, she looked even more frightened now. "Y-you followed me?" She sounded astounded, worried, upset. She was shaking, she wanted to turn and run but knew it wouldn't be wise; he was certain to chase her down and catch up before she got far.

"I'm not!" She spat the words out, she wouldn't! Not again! She finally did take a step away from the tree, closer to him. "I won't!" She said, her voice quiet but firm.

She did learn something. Even though Xiuh had been horrible it still meant having to chose between the lesser of two evils in her mind. "I'd rather die." She stared him straight in the eye, still trembling like a leaf but firm in her tone.

“You think I would let me pet get away from me so easily?” Fsi sounded amused. Probably because she didn’t think he would follow her. Shahidi should know him by now, shouldn’t she?

“You won’t?” Fsi questioned darkly? Well if that was the case---

“It shouldn’t be long then for that other male to find you,” Fsi tested. “It would be a shame if he came by again…wouldn’t it?” He had seen how much the male had hurt his pet, and he wasn’t about to let it happen again.

“I guess I should go then. If you’d rather die…” He turned away from the female. This was the test, had she learned?

He was the one that said he would leave! It wasn't like she tried to escape or... she wasn't his pet!

She was surprised his anger hadn't turned red hot yet... and oddly enough she felt intrigued. She was well aware he was trying to scare her with the threat that the red and white male would come back... but oddly she did not feel that fear. With Fsi... he acted as though she was his and his alone. With Xiuhcoatl it was different... he did not act as though Shahidi was his, instead he insisted she owed it to him to... to... she wouldn't think of it.

She continued to watch him, her shakes had calmed down slightly and she would hold firm in her resolve. "I think you're lonely." She breathed out, but could have kicked herself for saying so.

So far Fsi had been mostly words, even if he had lunged her a few times. A big bully... that was what he was.

“I’m…what?” Fsi paused, not able t comprehend what she had just said. “Lonely?” He scoffed at the idea.

Fat chance! He wasn’t anything of the sort. He was just doing what he was brought up by his father to do! He treated those like they should be treated. He kept his property until they no longer served them. Fsi liked it this way, and no others had complained. Not until he met Shahidi that was. She was the problem child! The lion should have just let the other one die from the hyenas. He wouldn’t have to deal with all this trouble then!

“Keep thinking that darling, for it is far from the truth.” Fsi stated, not sure whether to keep walking, or keep talking.

He chose the first. If Shahidi wanted to follow, she could. He was growing bored with her constant fight backs.

She blinked, again surprised he hadn't lost his temper. The only thing it confirmed was that her words must be true... they must have.

If he could stay... calm like this... perhaps this was what she needed to do from the beginning? Stick up for herself? He tried to deny that he was lonely but she couldn't believe that... why else would he be following her after he clearly tried to disregard her?

She watched for a moment as he kept going and swallowed, unsure why she wanted to follow. Perhaps her heart was too large and perhaps she wanted to see the good in others too much, even when she'd only seen the ugly side of them.

No, especially when she'd only seen their ugly side.

She started to move after him, at first behind and then slowly she picked up her pace to walk beside him. As equals... she'd make him see if it was the last thing she did.

Fsi heard the rustling behind him. So she had followed? He knew she would.

Well…he secretly hoped she would. Maybe she had been right in the words she chose. Maybe Fsi was lonely. The term never really crossed his mind, but it did make sense. The dark lion would never in a million years admit such a thing though. He was too proud, too much absorbed in his dignity to a task.

The lion didn’t say anything as she walked next to him. He let it happened. He was too tired right now to speak ill to her. His normal attitude would likely return the next day…or whenever, he wasn’t sure. Maybe Fsi was just mellowing in his age. Who knew.

Fsi just let it happen. Maybe it was a start of a brand new relationship.
