Forgotten Crystal
By PatchieFoxGirl aka Sabretooth-Fox

While my sister and I were growing up we were born gamers. We got an N64 along with Gameboy Color. Everyone knew that our house was considered the game house, which was a great nickname when you were a kid. We had so many different game consoles to play games on. I was also getting into different things such as I was a Pokemon fangirl and my sister was a fan of the the series for a little while due to the games. I continued to play other games such as Yoshi Story,Zelda, 700,Smash and Pokemon snap. I loved the Pokemon games so much that I began to make plushies, especially of my favorite Pokemon, but I was not successful. Over time I lost my Pokemon Crystal, Silver, Blue, as well as Yellow. I was upset about losing Crystal, because my favorite Pokemon team was on there.
Over time, I forgot the Pokemon games as well as the team that I had lost. One day my friends and I went to a local Gamestop to look for games. My two friends went into a different area of the store, while I went to a shelf that held PS2 games. While looking at the games one of my friends called me over when she saw an advertisement for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, which were the rerelease of Gold and Silver. Heading over to get a closer look at the date, I felt my cellphone drop from my pocket. After it fell, I bent down to pick it up, and as a did so something caught my eye. I reached my hand towards it, and pulled it out. To my surprise it was Pokemon Crystal. I clutched it in my hand, before showing it to my friends, they were surprised to see such an old game. I rushed to the counter to buy the game, not wanting to miss this opportunity for nostalgia. The Clerk at the counter saw the game, and for an instant I thought I saw him smirk.
"Do you really want this game?" The Clerk asked me.
I looked at him, the Clerk had messy dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. There was something about him that unnerved me, especially since he had a smirk on his, and his tone of voice had a icy edge to it. His eyes had a distant look to them, like he was seeing something I could not see, and whatever it was seemed to please him.
"Yes, I still want the game." I replied.
I bought the game, and left the store with both of my friends. My friends left to go home, and I pulled out the game after they left. After pulling out the game, I put it back into the bag and left for home myself.
The next day I looked throughout my room to find my GameBoy Advance to play the game. It was in rough shape, but it still worked. I pulled put the game I bought the day before, and put it in the slot. I started the game and chose Totodile, and named after my dog Rex, who had passed away the previous year. I started to remember my old Pokemon I named Chance, who was a Bulbasuar. After leaving New Bark Town the game started to glitch. The grass was moving on top of the screen, and the music began to play backwards as the road pixilated. I turned off the game, and took out the game to blow on the game slot, hoping that would fix it. I put the game back into the slot, and started it from where I last saved it. The game was back to normal. It stayed normal after that.
The next few days I played the game without incident, and during the time I started to come up with ideas for Pokemon plushies I was planning to make. However, the more I played the game the sicker I felt. My throat was sore and swollen, I told my grandmother and she took me to the doctors to have it checked out, she was worried that I had gotten strep throat again. I was worried, because the doctor had told me that if I ever got strep throat again I would have to have my tonsils removed that terrified me.
I was unable to go outside or hang out with my friends, so I continued to play my Pokemon game. My illness got worse during that time. One night I had turned off my game to got to sleep, I had a caught a Vulpix that I named Patch before I had turned it off. I had a dream that night that I was the girl from the game. The world around me was different, I looked around, and saw that I was near Victory Road. I vaguely remembered that in my old Crystal game that is where I left off. Suddenly, I felt one of the Pokeballs move, and my Vulpix Patch came out of the Pokeball.
Patch whimpered, and began to tug at my pants, she did not want me to enter Victory Road. She tried to tug me away, then she ran away until she was five feet from me, away from Victory Road. I followed her out of curiosity, and entered Viridian City, which was strangely quiet. As I walked my Pokemon from my old Crystal game appeared, and my Pokemon Rex the Totodile became a Croconaw, and then evolved into Feraligatr. My Pokedex began to go haywire as my Pokemon Rex evolved before my eyes, when I tried to open it the Pokedex shocked me. I dropped the Pokedex and stepped back from it as it continued to make static sounds. My old Pokemon surrounded me, then they went over to the Pokedex, before they moved away from me.
"Go…away!"
I looked around for the voice, and realized that my old team started to fade. As they faded they let out cries that only Pokemon released when they had fainted. As Patch began to fade as well, she ran towards me, but instead of attacking, she went after an unseen force. After attacking the unseen enemy, she let out a piercing wail, and I froze. I turned around slowly and no longer saw Patch. A strong force pushed me away, and next thing I knew I was on the floor of my room. As I got up slowly from the floor, I stepped on something. I walked to my dresser to get my glasses and my cellphone, I wanted to check the time. I flipped open the cellphone and saw that it was midnight. When my eyes adjusted to the low light, I spotted my Pokemon plushie, it was my Vulpix that I had since I was young girl. The toy had a huge tear in the back, and the stuffing was spilling on to the floor. Next to it, I saw my sewing scissors that I had knew I had put away before going to bed. I turned on the lights, and ran to get sewing thread to fix my Vulpix plushie. As I was fixing my doll, I tried to think about what could have done this. I did not have a dog at the time, and I was alone in the house. After fixing my doll, I placed it on my bed, and went to play my game. I was unable to sleep due to the nightmare that I just had.
I turned on my GBA, and began to play my Crystal game, hoping that it would calm me down. When I went to my save file, I was not in my original save spot. I was somewhere different in my game, that place was Radio Tower. I was on the roof where I spotted a Team Rocket member not to far from me. The sky was black, while the building and the trainer were white, there was no sound either. Thinking it was a glitch, I checked my Trainer Card, and saw that I had all my badges I needed to battle the Elite Four. I closed the Trainer Card, and noticed that my female trainer sprite no longer had a face. I thought I had either gotten a hacked game or a bootleg game, then I thought that maybe my illness was getting the best of me and I was seeing things. I turned off the game and turned it back on, to my shock instead of my current team, I had my old team from a different game, and my trainer was still on the roof of Radio Tower. All of my Pokemon were in the yellow for health, I had no idea how someone could hack a game and know exactly who made up my old team. Patch lead the party, because she was always my favorite. I pressed the 'A' button and saw something that almost made me scream.
Patch had long gashes on her face and back that was badly stitched. Her tails were also ripped to shreds, and no longer looked like curls. Her eyes were no longer there, and instead were empty sockets with blood dripping from them down her cheeks. I went down to my Venusaur Chance and looked at him next, his color was a pale green and the flower on his back had wilted. His eyes were glassy as though he had gone blind. My Pidgeot Angel was next in line, she held a special spot, because she was named after a beloved bird that had passed away. She looked like she had been buried alive and had maggots coming out of her torso. Her head and her feathers were almost gone. I checked on my Vaporeon Eve and saw that she had withered to almost nothing. Finally, I checked my last two Pokemon, my Raichu Sparky and the Mew Miria, both Pokemon were skeletons. I checked all the levels of the Pokemon, and realized that all of them were at the levels I had them at when I lost my original Crystal game.
I began to cry, and as I cried my coughing became worse. I wondered why this had happened, and I apologized to my former team. This all seemed like a bad dream. Instead of turning off the game, I pressed on, and moved my trainer towards the Team Rocket member. I wanted answers, and whoever possible hacked the game, may have left a message behind. As I went closer to the Team Rocket sprite, my trainer sprite jumped back in shock, and a dialogue box appeared.
"What are you doing?!" I see my trainer sprite exclaim.
It surprised me, because trainers don't talk. Then I see the Team Rocket member turn around to face me and reply.
"Danger!" He shouted.
I clicked on him again.
"He's waiting for you to play with him, leave now! Go back to bed before it is too late!"
I started to get freaked out, and felt chills go down my spine. The sprites in my game were not supposed to talk like this at all. To my shock and horror, the Team Rocket member jumped off of Radio Tower to his death. The screen went black, and made I heard a thud. I got angry, because things like that don't happen in Pokemon games at all. I moved my trainer sprite towards the stairs, and as I moved her forward, I noticed that there was blood on the stairs. I had my trainer sprite continue down the stairs and onward into the next room. I began to cough more violently as I did this, and almost dropped the game. Taking deep breaths I pressed on again. The room had a large cabinet blocking the door, and I decided to go back the way I came, only to find that the stairway was gone. I was trapped inside the room with no way out. On the wall I spotted something that I recognized from my old Crystal game.
I clicked on it, and realized it was a picture of my old team and my trainer before the transfer. Everyone was safe and happy in the photo, but as I looked at it, it started to distort. There was a laugh that sounded from my game, causing me to drop it. Gaining courage I picked up the game and saw an unfamiliar sprite. As the sprite moved towards me, I saw an old man who reminded me of Blaine, if he had been dead for a long period of time. He smiled at me, before he began to speak.
"Do you like my game?" He asked, while a 'yes' and 'no' icon appear.
I pressed 'no' several times.
"Why not?" He asked. "I've searched long and hard to get your original team back to you, aren't you glad? You are now reunited with a team you abandoned long ago."
I wanted to shout at the screen, but no words came out.
"They missed you," He continued, "They are happy to see you. They also were wondering why you hated them so much to leave them. They waited for you until they died, now they want you to join them."
I tossed the game away, and that caused him to laugh, I pulled the game out of the game slot, and checked the screen. He was still there.
"They love you, why don't you love them? They are dead now, but their loyalty is still to you, they are the only things keeping me from killing you."
I threw a pillow over the game console and the Crystal game. I did not get much sleep that night, and in the morning I destroyed the game with a hammer. Each time I apologized to the Pokemon from my old team. I slowly started to get better, and a week later, I got my SoulSilver game. I knew the nightmare was over.
That night, I put my SoulSilver game into my DSlite console game slot, and started the game. I chose a Totodile and named him Rex, and as began to play, the screen started to flicker. When I closed my eyes and opened them, the game was back to normal. I played the game for a few hours when the game froze, and before I could turn it off, I saw the man that had appeared on my Crystal game.
"You can not get rid of me." He told me.
The SoulSilver game began to act up much worse, and he seemed to be targeting my new team of Pokemon.
"I was the one that killed your old team, I am going to kill this team as well, then you."
Before he could do what he had planned, I saw my old team appear on the screen in sprite form. They all looked at me, then my new team, then finally at the man. The Pokemon surrounded the man, and the screen went completely black. The DS stopped working, and began to overheat, I dropped the game and moved away. Soon the DS was back to normal, and I turned on the game. My new team of Pokemon were safe. To my shock, Patch stood in front of the screen, and addressed me through the use of the dialogue box.
"You are safe, he will never come back, and neither shall we."
With that Patch turned away and vanished. I never saw her or my old team again. Sometimes I fear the old man will someday return, and I hope I will be ready.
