It hurt. The cold hurt. Boutonniere's muscles were in physical pain. She had come into the cave after a successful hunt outside in the snow. Now, when she moved to sit down, her body made an assortment of crunchy noises. She winced and said, with a laugh, "Now, that can't be good." Fortunately, it was much warmer in here and it would only be a matter of time before she warmed up.

If she were tossed into a boiling sea right now she would still be frozen solid at her core. Sneezing she wished she had the sense to stay by the water where things were nice and crusted over with frozen death. Spying what she hoped was a cave ahead Ester hurried toward it eager to curl up in a corner and try to get warm again. She stumbled a bit not able to feel her paws anymore. Maybe she’d get lucky and there would be a hot springs deep in the cave. She really hoped it wasn’t just a shallow alcove. If it were she would have almost no protection from the wind. As she got closer she could see shadows, which made her smile. It was more than a alcove.

Ah, a visitor. And this one hadn't tried to attack her, so Boutonniere figured she must've been friendly. Now, what does one do when company's over? Offer her food? On the one hand, all she had was a half-eaten Raldo and she had been planning to stretch it out for at least a week. On the other, she wanted her visitor to stick around if only for the body heat. After thinking about it a teensy, weensy bit more, she said, "Welcome to my humble abode. If you're hungry, eat up," and slid the carcass towards her.

Ester peered into the darkness and her eyes settled on a ghostly form she hadn’t noticed before. Not really being one for combat unless pushed Ester would have fled outside before fighting even for a warm place. She was surprised when the food was offered. She shifted and tried to smile. “Ah thanks.” The carcass was half frozen when she crept closer to inspect it. Still it was edible and pretty fresh even if it was half of an icicle. She sniffed it and found a spot to rip off. The tearing sound echoed in the cave. Scuttling back a bit she tried to give the other courel some space even if she felt like curling up for warmth.
