Though the butterfly-winged mare was once again grazing on her own, this time she was far more watchful and wary. Her travelling companion, the raven mare, had peeled off into the forest to hunt, and Pelielle remained behind, taking her fill of the foliage around without having to go too near the queasy smell of whatever Keela's prey might end up being. It was a quiet afternoon, but she knew all too well that it could change in a mere moment.
And so it did. A snap - of a twig, perhaps - was what sent her head back up, ears twitching to try to determine the direction of the sound. Predator? Keela? No... Perhaps another kirin, though? The scent is unfamiliar to her, but it wasn't 'other' the way the predators she'd encountered so far had been... "Hello?" she called out, cautious.

Thus far it had been a rather quiet and uneventful day for Kenjiro and his brother. They had flown around for a bit earlier in the morning, but now they were simply making their way peacefully through to forest. The wavy-haired stallion's ears perked in surprise at the sound of another voice calling out to them though; it had been quite a while since they'd run across another of their kind. He looked over at his brother in silent inquiry, wondering whether they should approach or keep on their way. If this area was the territory of the one whose voice they heard then they (she? It'd sounded like a she) might not be too happy with them passing through.

(Escalus) Like his brother, Escalus' ears couldn't help but perk at the sound of another voice - a female voice. Even better, really! The look of inquiry from Kenjiro's really quite unncessary - after all, there's two of them and one of the other, so no matter what happens, they'd have the stronger numbers and the better advantage should the situation turn a little unfriendly. Not that he figured it would.
He resettled his wings, posing them for maximum impression factor, and lead the way towards the source of the voice. Ah, so it was a mare~ And a pretty one to boot. "Hello there~"
---- (Pelielle) Whatever she had expected to result from her call, two stallions certainly wasn't it! Though for a moment she second-guessed her sight, since they looked so similar... Similar, but still with differences. They were very clearly related in some way though. "Oh! So there are others around here..." Keela had been on the right track; that was good, right?

Kenjiro was a bit surprised at the sight of the mare herself-- she was really quite lovely. Her coloring was very soft yet bright at the same time. He had to remind himself that it was rude to simply stare. "Hello. And so it would seem." It seemed that both parties hadn't been expecting much company. "I hope we haven't interrupted anything." Was she a traveler, passing through like they were?

"Oh no...I'm just looking around, really..." Her ears twitched in the vague direction Keela left from, but who knows when she'll be back. Or if she'll be grumpy, if the hunt proved unsuccessful and she has to settle for 'lesser food' to fill her belly. "Um, my name is Pelielle. Are you two from around here...?" Was she intruding?
--- "Noooot exactly," the stallion admitted, stepping forward to circle around the mare to get a bit of a better look - they haven't met a lot of kirin so far themselves. But a whiff of a familiar scent stops Escalus straight in his tracks. "...Are you travelling alone?" he asked, the matter suddenly rather urgent. Had she had a chance encounter with the raven mare? If it was recent, he could probably chase the trail...

... Did his brother really have to circle her like that? They weren't predators... Hopefully he wasn't making her too uncomfortable "We wander around a lot. My name is Kenjiro, and this is my brother Escalus." The stallion fell silent at his brother's out of the blue question. Had he scented another Kirin nearby? ... There wasn't going to be an ambush or anything, right?

"Oh, I see." So they were like her and Keela then. Only actually related. Brothers... It must be nice to have such a close companionship. Keela was very kind in letting Pelielle tag along but...she wasn't particularly inclined to socializing, and the mare didn't want to trouble Keela any more than she already was. "Well, it's nice to meet you both? My, um, travelling partner...is looking around a little ways off." Saying she was 'hunting' would probably sound a bit strange, since Keela was fairly convinced she was alone in that regard.
-- Escalus fluffed his wings, visibly perking up at the news. This was great! He'd been wanting to see that mare again. "She's still around here? Excellent! Which way did she go?" Now, to see if he could sneak up on her...

Now Kenjiro was even more puzzled than before. She? How did his brother know the other was a 'she'? And what did it even matter? He took a light sniff to try to catch the scent of this mystery 'other mare' for himself and immediately felt his heart sink. Oh. Her. "You're really going to try to track her down?" It had started out as such a good day too... So much for hoping to never have to see her again.

Pelielle was surprised, to say the least. He knew Keela, and he wanted to see her again? That was...not what the raven mare had led her to believe. Did she have 'friends', then? "Um, have you met before...?" Just double-checking. Not that Keela hadn't been more than tolerable, but she didn't think the raven kirin liked to encourage others to see her again. "She went east, but I'm not sure exactly where she is now. She'll probably find me, when she's done...?" She always had so far.
-- Escalus tossed his mane at his brother, chuckling. He knew Kenjiro didn't really like her, but she was interesting. Plus, it wasn't like Kenjiro was gonna suffer, left here with Pelielle and all. "Sure, why not? Sounds like fun!" he told his brother, before looking back to Pelielle. "Thanks for the directions! And likely so, but I don't mind a bit of a search. I'll be back soon, with or without her." Hopefully with her, though.

"If she's the mare we're thinking of, then once, yes." Granted, Kenjiro was most definitely grateful to the raven mare for having saved his brother's life, buuuut that didn't mean that he could remember her eating without his stomach doing flips. He side-eyed his brother at the other's declaration. "Good luck...?" They should really be going the other way now while they still had the chance. If Escalus came back eating meat again... orz

"See you!" was Escalus' reply to both kirin, as he trotted off in the direction he'd been given. Kenjiro'd be fine with his present company, the stallion was quite sure...
--- The pink-maned kirin watched the stallion leave with curiosity before turning back to look at his brother. "I guess she made a good impression...?" Which was a little surprising, knowing Keela. "I guess you might know then that she's probably hunting..."

'Hunting', huh? "That wouldn't be particularly surprising. When we first met she was catching herself a 'meal'." Of course what he neglected to mention was the others implying of he and his brother acting as 'bait' for said meal. Or rather, flat-out saying as much. Fun times. "What about you?" He hoped the same fate hadn't befallen her.

Perhaps Keela did make a habit out of helping others. She might just not want to 'fess up to it. "She was sort of doing that for me too? Well. I'm not sure if hunting was her true purpose or if she was actually just trying to help me and ended up getting a meal out of it." The raven mare was, after all, quite practical. "Regardless, she saved my life." And Pelielle would never, ever forget that.

Ah, that was good to hear. Though he still wasn't sure whether or not she'd been playing bait... "She saved my brother as well. And probably myself indirectly." He didn't doubt the feline might have gone after both of them had it been given the chance. "Have you two been traveling together for very long?"

"I'm glad she was able to help you both out," Pelielle said, honestly grateful. After all, if not for that, then they wouldn't be speaking now. "Um...it's been a fair while now. She's been helping me try to find other kirin. I wouldn't mind a 'herd'..." She was a little chagrined to admit it to someone who might well, like Keela, prefer to strike out on his own. Well, as alone as it got with a brother at your side. But maybe he didn't know herds were an option, like she hadn't?
