This was a good day. Nice weather. Small breeze. Small enough not to knock anyone over in the air, not even a bird. But strong enough to maybe give a little liftoff. Maybe. It still remained to be seen if the weather would go against or for him, but Ezekiel was still confident about it. What could go wrong in a day like this? No annoying chipmunks. Birds singing. A slight chill in the air that made the sun beating down on him more pleasant. Just perfect.

He couldn't, however, help wondering if the task at hand would be difficult. Then he would tell himself no. There were somethings in life that, once learned, could never be forgotten. At least not forever. You might forget them for a time being. Forget you knew how. But like a human thrown from a Soq's back and gets back on after a long time, it just takes a little time to remember what you never forgot.

Ezekiel was sure it would go over well. Yes. Despite that he had to keep telling himself that. Truth be told, he had never taught anyone how to do anything before. He was always the one being taught things. How to stay composed under stress. How to focus on his horn.

That was something to not worry about in among all these other worries. If something went wrong, he could heal away the damage. It wasn't like Zaiella would go very high, right?

Ezekiel spread out one wing, trying out the wind against a feather tip. If it got more windy later, it still shouldn't be too bad.

"Are you ready to give it a try today?" Ezekiel asked of Zaiella, turning his head around while his wing returned to his side. He fluttered them a little like a bird on the branch, eager to try flying with someone else. Once he got her comfortably off the ground, that was.

Perhaps....this wasn't a good idea.

Standing in the meadow, on what one would deem a perfect day, in perfect company, on perfect conditions....wasn't such in the mind of the mare who stood just a step back from her companion. She watched as his wings stretched and almost captured the very faint breeze, feathers fluttering along in their beautiful white hue. In fact, she was certain that if she blinked he may not be there when she opened her eyes...perhaps drifting away into the vast, perfect blue sky.

Zaiella swallowed, hard.

Once the stallion turned around to meet her gaze, the mare snapped out her small inward panic; her heart rate no longer spiked due to such wonderful company...no. Although she dreamed, and wished with all her heart to take to the skies above as he has promised to teach her....she came back full circle to this same spot, this same moment.

In short, she froze. Her nerves wracking to every failed attempt, every bump, scrape and humiliation that she, a wind...could not fly. It haunted her thoughts, despite how much she ached for it.

However, this wasn't like any other time. Ezekiel was here, he was a uni, and a wind. He literally possessed everything she needed for success....encouragement, experience, wings and of course to heal.

How could she not learn from someone as perfect as he was?

Feeling her face remain a few shades paler than normal, she nodded her head vigorously as she too opened her wings; feeling the popping of sockets terribly unused as she felt the wind dance between her feathers. It felt....good. None the less, the trust in her eyes along with her heart was clearly visible for anyone who looked her way, even though she knew it could take some time....she trusted Ezekiel and his word to at least try and help her.....and make sure she didn't die in the process.

"I think i'm ready..." She piped up, she didn't know what else she could need...they'd eaten, had a quenching drink and were now in an open meadow where she couldn't crash into trees. "I won't know if I don't try though!" The mare encouraged herself, putting on that kind smile which usually graced her maw. "Where do we begin, Ezekiel?"

8D So excited <3 Thanks for starting the new one up, I have a feeling this will be a good'er.

You bet she would be there for him, and i'm not too sure of any side plots just yet, there was a particular one I had in mind...more dangerous than I think she would be ready for right at this time. It was something I was hoping her to have a little bit of flight under her belt before it may take place! XD Its rather dramatic, kind of a pivotal point in her life kind of rp that if interested he could take part in! <3

Ezekiel could see the nerves etched across the mare's face. He didn't blame her. Even being a little off the ground could be scary. What if you fell and landed on your leg? A Soquili's body was heavy. The bone could snap. And he wasn't sure about healing broken bones. It had been punctures to the skin, veins, and muscles that he had healed. Never a broken bone. Not even a broken hoof. Which could be quite uncomfortable if not treated. Injuries like that always made him nervous. How limited was his magic? Was there the possibility of the magic going wrong and causing more harm than good? He never wanted to take that chance.

But she would have to get some distance between her and ground to make this work.

When Ezekiel had first learned to fly, he had gone up too high, panicking in being off the ground and not knowing how to get back down. Flapping his wings and getting more air had been the easy part. For the dozenth time he prayed to whatever God would listen that it wouldn't be that way with Zaiella. If she kept rising towards the sky, the Alicorn wasn't sure what he would do. If he went up after her, she might fall.

Either way, this was pointless, all this worrying. She'd never learn if she didn't try. And she wouldn't try if he refused to help.

The stallion returned the smile Zaiella gave him, swaying his long tail back and forth like a cat. Only his swaying wasn't from being content. It was from nerves. "Being ready is a good start! The best thing to do next is run with the wind, jump, and flap. Only enough to float in the air if you succeed. If you don't, at least it won't be a high drop."

Sorry! I'm just inattentive, this time. Not enough plots in Soq. No competition against my 24 size herd in another shop plus half a dozen plot buddies. =x Trying to bring a friend back here so I can get more involved. Once I do, she'll want Ezekiel for some things. Which you're free to join. <3 Something about rescuing a mare from a dragon Soq and she has another mare whose all sad he'll want to cheer up.

I'd love to~ There's no plot I dislike.

Zaiella listened intently to her winged friend, nodding her head as she soaked in ever word like a sponge. It really was that fundamentally simple wasn't it? Run, jump, flap, soar. It was embedded in her DNA, yet she defied it mentally for so, so long. She could do that....she was a Wind!

A terrified, flightless Wind.

"So...like this?" Zaiella began to trot in large circles around her friend, her wings spreading to mock flapping in the wind....poorly. Her joints were stiff, lacking the co-ordination to make both simultaneous flaps at the same time and the same depth. Despite the experience she lacked the mare did understand the fundamental of what she was feeling, and expressed the distaste with frown. "I...don't feel like I'm catching the wind." So, as she trotted she adjusted her wings out and in, arch up and down.

There was a moment of epiphany though, a spark in her soul as she had them out with a slight curl, arch in the bulk of her wing that the air from her jog flowed so smoothly and felt her wings being pulled up. A dazed look caught her face in such a primal feeling, she'd never tried to just wing it...and despite the reserve in her heart....her soul was telling her to run.

A breeze, to the west.

"I'm going.." Zaiella breathed, before she decided to give it her best effort and show Ezekiel what she could do. She took off east, feeling the wind at her heels as the mare ran; her wings spreading as she cut through the air. There was a moment of reserve and a panic welling in her chest but she swallowed hard and began to flap. She didn't get any momentum at first but after some trial she got a few solid and timed flaps in and sure enough her hooves had left the ground. Before she knew it she spread her wings and soared only a foot or two above the dirt. "Oh...Oh my....Ezekiel! Ezekiel!"

Turning her head around in delight she spied him...so far away, and something seemed to click; a flashback of foals with sad expressions. Immediately her wings buckled and shot back against her sides and her legs stretched to brace for impact; hitting the ground before tumbling in a heap of dust and legs into the grass. "Owwww..." Zaiella groaned, she wasn't hurt, but the dust made her cough as she panted from the spent energy. However...a soft smile crossed her lips.

Although brief....she'd soared.

Ezekiel's tail only seemed to swing faster in his growing nervousness. A part of him was cursing his luck in finding a fearful Wind. It was a pity to have wings and not use them. It was also a pity he was the Wind to have to teach her how to use them when he had to teach himself. He was glad for the experience of learning. Glad that he could fly if things on the ground got too out of hand. To soar above the treetops and make the other animals appear as small as ants. It gave him a great pleasure to feel on top of the world. Free.

But he was realizing quickly it also left him paranoid. He was not the best teacher to show her the ropes. If she failed or hurt herself, it would all be on him. She was his responsibility. His charge.

The pale stallion's hooves lifted and dropped slowly in his apprehension. He wasn't liking the feeling of responsibility. Not at all.

His head snapped around as Zaiella's bright blue appeared in the corner of his eye. He watched her silently for a while, not saying anything to her comment about the wind. Then she moved away. Mouth open as if to say something, to stop her, he moved a few steps in the direction she had gone. Then he stopped. And just watched her. Why was he worrying? The mare had admitted to flying before. That wasn't something she could forget forever once learned. She was made to fly.

Replacing the brooding look on his face with a smile, if not a little forced, Ezekiel picked up his hooves and ran after her, trying to keep his distance to give her a wide berth. As she lifted off the ground and his ears picked up the sound of his name his smiled widened until he tossed his head once and gave her a whinny of joy.

As quickly as it had come, the smile vanished from his lips as the previous fear returned to grip his heart. His legs pumped his body faster to close the gap, stopping only when he was close enough to quickly scan for any injuries, horn lowered for quicker access. His own breath came out in quick gasps from the exertion.

"Is anything causing you pain?" was all he could focus on while his pale eyes continued to scan her for scratches or blood. Or the favoring of a limp.

As Zaiella laid in the grass she could hear the hoof beats of Ezekiel as he ran to her aid; that smile still bright on her face. It had felt so exhilarating, her heart thudding still in her chest at the weightlessness she'd felt for but a few sweet seconds. While she wasn't high in her brief soaring, she felt like she was on top of the world.

Once the face of her friend same into view she looked up, and felt back about the fear on his face showed.

"No no...not at all..." Zaiella assured, quite eagerly so that she wouldn't cause him any more distress. She quickly rolled herself over to her side and pushed herself to her hooves. "I'm alright really! " And she was, in fact she was more than alright, still elated at the fact she'd done it - no matter how short it had been. "Did you see? It wasn't very spectacular but I flew!" It was a sensation she wasn't expecting, her wings were itching to do it again but perhaps she'd wait a little bit - not wanting to over do it.

Just as a precaution though, she made sure to stretch each of her legs, stretch her wings and and flick her tail. Nothing gave her any pains or twinges so the mare knew she was alright. Looking back his way she felt her sky blue orbs dance with delight, stepping towards him and wrapping her wings around his shoulders. "Thank you, Thank you Ezekiel...." Perhaps it was a little too soon for celebrations....but it was such a monumental step for her she couldn't help it. Nuzzling his cheek as a silent thanks, she backed up after and felt her cheeks light up in a small blush - not wanting to put too much emphasis on the action.

"What do you think? Any pointers other than not falling?" She mused, chuckling softly.

The stallion shuffled backwards, not really to give her space to breath but to keep the sharp point of his horn out of her face. Or worst, her neck. With those arteries close to the surface. Thinking about it brought back memories of his youth. He had always been careful with the point. Careful to carry his head high so it touched no one. He wasn't a very big stallion. Average height if even that tall. The humans who had kept him for much of his young life were fond of slicing other animals to test his healing abilities. Small, at first. Just the veins. Then once ha had that mastered, they focused their attention on the arteries. Mostly on the neck. Where the cut need not be too deep to hit one to make the blood flow. There were many invisible stains on his radiant coat that only he could see. So he was no stranger to what would happen if he edged too close to Zaiella with such a weapon on his forehead. To see it happen before his eyes was bad enough. To inflict it himself, intentional or not, would be worse.

He breathed a sigh of relief when she reassured him she was fine and backed up one more step. The images still clouded his mind, though faintly, as he pushed them back to the recesses of his mind once more. The uneasiness and fear they caused still gripped him and he didn't want to be too close to another just now. Not with a horn. If not for the healing he would have attempted to be rid of it long ago. He wasn't even sure if he would be able to use it in self-defense. Ezekiel had had enough of pain and blood already.

The bad thoughts were pushed much further back at the feel of her wings around his shoulders. He stared at her, confused for a moment. Then an easy and wide grin spread across his own face. Just like a foal walking for the first time. A Wind could never forget how to fly.

"You're very welcome, Zaiella," he responded, his own wings fluttering slightly in fidgety embarrassment. He tossed his head slightly, trying to move his long forelock to cover his face more. But they parted as they always have and always will around his horn so the front of his face was always visible. The redness across his muzzle and the inner corners of his eyes both.

"Mm." Ezekiel thought a moment, looking at something unseen to one side of the blue mare. "It's a good start. You remember. It's only a matter of taking it slow and seeing what else you remember. Don't go too high if you're not confident. I can heal, but not as good as a pure could."
