Couple Roleplay Contest

You were hatched from the same egg, but that's about all you two had to do with each other- until now, anyway. Separated extremely early on in the caverns, you and your twin orangeblood were blissfully unaware of one another's existence until a chance encounter brought you two together once more. When and where did you two finally meet up again? After pupation, once you had sprouted your adult limbs and began your fight out of the brooding caverns? Or was it at the end of the trails, while finding a lusus? Perhaps well after you two had made your homes on Alternia you run into each other, much to your surprise!

Write a prompt describing their reunion. Describe their first impressions of one another, and how they feel about the whole long lost twin situation. Are they excited to have a sibling, or does it weird them out? Perhaps they view their twin as some sort of rival or competition. Do they get along like two peas in a pod, or do they have differing opinions on something crucial? It's all up to you, so have fun and be creative with it!

This is another couple prompt, which means you have to find a partner and write your reply with them. Each of you should choose which troll you are applying for, and write your reply to the prompt from their point of view. Standard rules for roleplay entries applies, 500 words minimum, from third person in past tense. While they are born from the same egg, you have the option of giving them them different or the same lusus and hive. Basically they don't have to interact significantly through their lives in roleplay, but it's all really up to you. Submitting an entry with your partner will get both of you 1 event point! Please choose one of you to submit the form below, make note of who your partner is, and which troll they picked/what part they typed.

Shaxio relied on his sister a lot. He was pretty nervous, especially around any of the other trolls they'd seen down in the caverns. He knew he'd probably rely on her a lot more to get through the trials; she was a lot more aggressive than he was. Not that he didn't have his own aggression it was just harder to get it going than it was for her. They'd made it through the first part of the trials okay enough, but then the unthinkable happened...
While walking down a passageway, the ground had given out underneath him, and he'd fallen down to a lower part of the trial caverns, effectively separating them both. Once the dust settled, he coughed a few times, clearing his lungs. He looked up, barely able to see his sister's face up above him. He called up to her, “what do I do?!” He was too nervous to look around, most of the area seemed dark and not easy to navigate. What would he do without her?

Guizan was feeling pretty good walking through the caverns; with Shaxio behind her, she felt more secure, more brave. She knew that he was scared and anxious, down in these caverns, and to be honest she was too. Sometimes the fear was like a black claw, gripping her bloodpump and making it hard to breathe. But when she looked at Shaxio, her little brother... She knew she couldn't let him know her fear. She had to be brave for her brother. She reaches behind her to take his hand and comfort him, as she did periodically to make sure he was okay. As she grabs around, she came to a chilling realization-

He wasn't there. She quickly turns around, her eyes wide with fear "...Shaxio!" She runs, noticing the ground had crumbled away. She gets on her hands and knees, desperately looking around for her brother. It was a long drop, one that she couldn't fall down and not be injured by. She assumes the worse, tears forming at the corner of her eyes as despair settled around her.

But then he spoke, and everything was okay as far as she was concerned. Sure, this made her worry, being separated from him, but she knew it would all be okay...or at least she hoped so. She couldn't let him know about her insecurities though "Listen Shaxio, don't panic! Everything will be okay, you just need to talk to me! I can't come down to get you!"

She couldn't come down to get him. The realization hit him about as hard as the fall had. “B-but what do I do?! I can't climb up!” He pushed himself up to his feet, and brushed himself off. He finally looked around, noting that there seemed to be some sort of a path. He looked back up to Guizan, then to the path. “I-... I think there's a path down here Guizan!”
A rock or two fell, off to his left. He whipped his head in that direction, eyes going wide. He wasn't alone down there, something was coming. “GUIZAN SOMETHING IS DOWN HERE!!” He started to panic, his bloodpump was going into overtime. A pair of eyes caught the light from the hole. Big eyes. Predatory eyes. He yelped, turned, and scrambled as fast as he could for the pathway. When it came to fight or flight, he certainly wasn't going to stick around and fight that thing... whatever it was.
The beast chased after him, but he kept running, until eventually he found a crack in the wall just big enough for him to squeeze into. He pushed his way in, going deeper and deeper. The beast pursuing him caught up and slammed itself against the wall. Shaxio let out a screech of terror, but continued to move through the crack...

"Yeah, go d--" She was interrupted by him, her eyes widening "WHAT? GET OUT OF THERE NOW!" The beast ran under her. Oh god, it was huge. She backs away from the hole, despair overcoming her quickly. She lost her brother. If she had just stayed with him, and never let go of his hand...this could have been prevented. It was her fault that he was gone. She closes her eyes, gritting her teeth before hearing a slither. Her eyes snapped open and she looked to the side, a beast slowly approaching. She growls "Damn you..." She quickly runs down the pathway, not stopping even as her lungs start to fill with fire. Damn them.

Shaxio continued to shove his way through the crack until eventually he stumbled out into an open cavernous area. He slumped to the ground, taking deep shaky breaths. After sitting where he was for a few moments, he finally looked around. The area seemed quiet enough, there was a small lake in the cavern. Eventually he stood, and looked for a way out. To his left, there was a path that seemed to lead back the way he had come from, just... on an actual pathway. To the right, a pathway leading in an unknown direction.
Shaxio placed his head in his hands, sniffling a little. If Guizan were there, she'd know what to do. She always chose what direction they went when they came to a fork... He stood there, fretting for awhile, before hearing something off to his left. He looked up, beginning to panic again. He didn't want to have another close call like the one before, and so he ran off to the right.
Eventually he came to a door, with a few buttons on it. He could still hear the creature behind him coming closer, so he hastily pushed one of them. Thankfully it was the correct one, and the door opened. Shaxio practically flung himself out into the world, landing face first on the ground. He laid there for a moment, then sat up, and rubbed his eyes. He looked around, sniffling a bit. Had Guizan made it out?

Guizan has been running for what seemed to be hours, looking around desperately. Where was the door? She couldn't be far off... She gritted her teeth, looking behind her as the slitherbeast continued its hunt. She did not like the prospect of being food; she needed to live for the sake of--AHA, DOOR! She runs to it, smacking the first button she sees and holding her breath. The two of them had come across a few dud buttons here and there, which usually led to them having to wait until the door could be opened again. But luckily, this was not the case and she quickly exits the caverns, shutting the door hastily. She breathes a sigh of relief, smiling as she turns to her side "Look Shaxio we ma--" She stops, her eyes widening as the realization hits her yet again.

Shaxio was dead. Who was she talking to? She shakes her head, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill down her cheeks. She looks around, the entrance to the caverns fairly empty; there were lusii and trolls here and there, but none so far that looked to be hers. That is, until her gaze sets upon a large two-headed shellbeast, which was making its way towards her. She hurried over, hopeful as she looked around it. There was no sign of her brother.

Shaxio pushed himself up to his feet, looking around. All of the lusii seemed to have found their charges, were was his and Guizan's? He shook his head as the thought that maybe, just maybe, he was the only one that had made it entered his thoughts. He wiped his eyes one last time, and then shuffled along, passing by relieved troll and lusii pairs.
He stopped when he laid eyes on a huge two headed shellbeast. He moved a little closer to it, somehow feeling drawn to it for some reason. A moment later he realized it already had a troll, and sighed sadly. Where was his lusus? He looked around anxiously, and then noticed that the shellbeast was slowly lumbering towards him with... with Guizan?
A grin burst across his face, and he ran over to the two of them. “Guizan!! I was so scared I'd never see you again!!” He flung himself at her, going for a full on tackle of twin affection.

Guizan looks at the ground sullenly, not really feeling as if she succeeded...She was alone now, after all. Guizan sniffles, gripping the hem of her dress. As she was lamenting her failure to protect her brother, the shellbeast started lumbering away. She looked up, confused. Did it get the wrong wriggler? She looks up at the direction it was walking, her eyes widening--

"Shaxio! Oh god, you're alive!!" Her eyes filled with tears as she ran ahead of the creature, flinging herself at him just as he jumped for her. They collided painfully, falling to the ground "Ooow..."

There were three things Guizan learned from that experience. One, she couldn't live without her brother, it was almost impossible to stand the way her chest clenched when he was gone. She depended on him for support, and there was no way to change that.

Two, he had a hard head.

And three, twin fling fests were a horrible idea that only resulted in bleeding lips.

“Owwww!” Shaxio rubbed at his lip, then pulled his hand away to see the blood on it. He only stared at it for a moment before properly hugging Guizan. “I'm so glad you're here Guizan.” He let her go and then sat upright, sniffling a bit. Their rueunion was interrupted when their brand new shellbeast lusus's heads moved closer, mouths open. One head went for Shaxio, the other for Guizan. The two ended up hanging from its mouths as it lumbered off to where ever their new hive would be built. Shaxio was just happy they had both survived the ordeal.

His knees were shaking. Since emerging from his egg and wandering blindly into the branching tunnels of this cavern of trials he'd had one thing on his mind. That was survival, same as everyone else ever birthed by this place.

The boy never could have imagined he'd be so ill suited to the task.

Just a moment ago he'd outrun a cave crawler, only because he'd tripped and found the perfect little ground-level cubby to tuck himself into as the creature passed, kicking up more dust with its multiple legs then he'd ever breathed in before. Now he was forcing himself not to cough out loud and clutching his gut as he crawled out to keep moving. Don't stop, can't stop, he liked to pretend he was almost home free. His legs, for a moment, weren't listening, though.

And his knees were still shaking and it grew worse with a rumbling that started at the base of the wall and grew up towards the blackness above. Startled, he looked up in time to see large chunks of rock falling from the high ceiling, beyond the darkness that completely shadowed it. There wasn't enough time after that to get out of the way. In fact, it felt like there wasn't time to think at all. He couldn't even say to himself 'this is it.' Instead he only stared, and just then started to blink, and surely when he closed his eyes the end would come.

She was a survivor. She knew she could do it, she could feel the energy, the instinct guiding her along every path, the strength keeping her from being another set of bones in the cavern. The girl never for a moment doubted she would survive these cave trials.

But then she saw him. At first, she thought it was a reflective rock, but the boy didn't make the same movements she did. His face looked like hers, his hair was the same texture... They looked like a mirror image of each other, and the girl touched her horns, just to be sure of their direction. The boy's horns were the only difference she could see between the two young trolls. Maybe they were hatched from the same egg, even. The girl walked up to him, and the ground began to rumble, the sound of rocks falling from the distance approaching fast.

She couldn't let him die in front of her, and she leapt forward to grab the boy from behind, her arms wrapping around his waist, pulling him backwards and out of the way of the large rocks with all of her strength. The girl fell back with the force of her pull, landing on her behind.

“Are you okay?”

Even after a sudden feeling of weightlessness gave way to an upset stomach and a rough landing, he still didn't open his eyes. Was this what it felt like to die? Surely he was dead, culled by the trials, for the best. Though strangely enough, he could still feel his fingers and toes as if he'd fallen uselessly onto his a** and somehow survived.

Then he heard the voice from behind him, just off to the side, and jumped to his feet faster than the protesting ache in his legs should have allowed. Though his mouth opened, nothing came out at first, and he stared dumbly because trolls weren't supposed to help each other, were they?

"I uh, I'm okay." There was no way he'd made it of his own merit. This girl, she must have pulled him out of the way. And even if he didn't actually feel all that okay, he was at least smart enough not to make it common knowledge. Still… would she have saved him simply to turn on him? She could have just let him die. He looked down at her and felt a kinship he was almost afraid to feel, because that HAD to be a weakness and he had enough of those already.

"Are you?" He was holding out his hand now, awkwardly, and still he didn't notice the similarities they shared. The boy had never seen his own face before, and so hers was just as new to him. "Sorry. I made you fall." There was a low rumble in the background as he finished his words.

The girl smiled and grabbed the boy's hand, pulling herself up onto her feet again. “I'm fine, it's nothing I can't take at least. Even falling.” Now that she was closer to him, she could clearly see the similarities between her and this stranger. It was almost exciting, his freckles seemed to match up with hers, the same part in their hair, it was all the same!

Brushing off her dress of dirt, she said, “I guess it's kinda weird I saved you, but you know, we kind of look alike –” but was cut off as a large rock fell from the ceiling, the ground shaking beneath the two trolls. Suddenly, the ground gave way, taking the trolls with it.

For a moment, slowly, cautiously, he let himself feel relieved. Even as he watched her half-sideways, he kinda-sorta smiled a little. Still, he didn't have much time to do more than look inquisitive about the mention of their appearances. Look alike? What did she-? Then the rock fell, taking the floor with it.

It was a good thing she was strong enough to take 'even falling.' As he groaned and curled in on himself, he was able to will his eyes open and see her beside him. The boy bit his lip, tasting bitter blood, as he forced his battered legs to stand him up. At the very least, the fall hadn't broken them and he could still walk, straight over to the wall of the pit they were in. Now he couldn't look back at her, not at all. She'd saved him and he'd doomed her. She shouldn't have done it. She wouldn't be in here with him. Pressing his hands against the rock and sliding them up towards the top, he quickly decided it was too high to simply climb out.

The second fall was surely unexpected, but she'd learned to expect just about anything here. Especially if it could try to kill her. The girl watched the boy place his hands on the side of the walls of the hole, and looked up to make her own judgment. She didn't think they had fallen far, and sure enough, it wasn't that deep of a pit. If they were a little taller they could probably climb out but...

She had an idea to get out. “Hey, if you let me up on your shoulders, I could reach the top. I'll get out, and then pull you up with me, and we'll both be out of this hole!” the girl said, gesturing towards the ledge.

There was a long moment of hesitation between when she spoke and when he finally turned to face her again. Only because she addressed him, and only because, in that next moment, he felt almost… better. She seemed so enthusiastic about it, so sure that this was nothing. Just seconds before, his stomach was knotting with the knowledge that they'd be stuck down here to starve or be eaten by something, but now- Could they really get out? He never would have thought of the idea she proposed on his own.

It was a little scary, thinking that once she was out, maybe she wouldn't turn back to help him. Something, he wasn't sure what it was, told him he'd be okay, though. Already he was beginning to trust her. Stooping down, he tried to stay steady and upright. He knew it would probably be harder once she was actually on his shoulders. "Okay. Get on and I'll uh, stand back up."

Gingerly, the girl stepped up, placing her hands on the boy's shoulders to lift herself up, one foot at a time, onto his shoulders. She stood up slowly, using the hard rock wall as support as she straightened out. She inched her hand up along the side, her fingers able to reach the ledge from this height. All she needed was a little bit more height.

“Okay, I'm ready,” she said.

His face was nothing but concentration as she gave the word to stand back up. For all the trials they'd already been through, lifting another troll shouldn't have been much trouble, but he was nervous. He certainly didn't want her to fall again because of him.

The boy tried to tell himself he'd be ready for anything, but that soon he'd feel her weight lifting off his shoulders and she'd be reaching in to pull him out. Just the thought of that, the thought of being out of this hole, kept him steady.

Grabbing the edge of the pit as hard as she could, she pushed herself up from the boy's shoulder, propelling her leg up on the side and lifting herself so she could get her entire body up. With one foot propped on the edge, she could get her whole torso and then her body out in a quick motion.

She turned back and looked down at where the boy was waiting for her. Getting on her knees, she leaned forward and reached her hands down for him to grab, bracing her feet against the rocks so she would be able to get him up as easily as possible.

The motion of her pushing off his shoulders made him brace, but it was quick and pretty painless and the boy was just as fast in turning around to look up at where she'd disappeared out of the hole. And like that unknown something in his head had assured him earlier, he saw her leaning back in to offer her hands before any worrisome thoughts had a moment to sneak in. He reached, couldn't quite get them, but stood on his tiptoes next and was able to take hold.

"I'm ready!" It was the first time he'd raised his voice beyond a quiet murmur at all, and he pressed a foot against the wall for leverage.

The girl smiled, holding on tight to his hands, hopeful that he wouldn't slip from her grip, and began to pull. She tried to move backwards and stand a bit as she did so, putting as much force as she could to get this kindred troll up and with her again.

“You can do it,” she said to him between breaths. If he came from the same egg she did, he had to.

He was struggling at first, but the simple fact that he had her helping him, that he wasn't alone, pushed him to scrape his feet against the wall for continued leverage until he was finally hoisted out of the hole. It was far from graceful, but he was safe. They both were. Before he even gave her another look, he glanced down at the pit they'd escaped. If she hadn't been there, he'd still be down there, uselessly awaiting the end the same way he had when that rock from the ceiling nearly crushed him earlier.

"We did it," he muttered as he turned to her. Finally he was looking directly at her. "… Thanks."

“It was no problem,” she said, clasping his hands in hers. “Just think, working together like this, we can both survive and make it out of here. Not just me. You and I could grow up together, we could be friends and live near each other or maybe even... in the same hive.”

She looked down to the hole in the ground, and over to where the rocks had fallen, all mere moments ago. It was dangerous to stand around and talk. “But we should keep moving. We don't want to be here when something else happens,” she said, looking toward to where the end of the trials was, somewhere in the distance.

A jolt of surprise met the sudden and unexpected touch, and his gaze fluttered down to see his hands wrapped up in hers. Gentleness, now that they were no longer under the protection of the mother grub, felt quite unusual. Not uncomfortable, though. There was a strange connection, something that went far beyond a simple held hand.

Unfortunately, she had to remind him that now probably wasn't the best time to lapse into solace and comfort. He glanced back up at her for a moment before giving her hands a slight squeeze, almost subconsciously, and slipping his own hands away to continue on.

"You're right…" He narrowed his eyes into the darkness."I… thanks for the help." Her words gave him hope. Alone he'd probably die. With her, as long as he didn't bring her down again, he thought he really could make it."We really could stay together?" He wanted to. "In the same hive… isn't that kinda different?"

She walked on with him, side by side. “I think it's unusual for most trolls but... we look alike and I feel like maybe...” she hesitated for a moment, what if she was wrong about this? Or if he didn't feel the same way she did?“I think maybe we were hatched from the same egg. You know, twins. They probably stay together, in the same hive.”

Looking over at the boy again, she studied his face. It was so similar to hers, more so than any other troll she had seen in the caves. And she felt drawn to him, compelled to risk her life to save him even the first time she saw him. It made her happy when he squeezed her hand back. They had to be connected in a special way. “You feel it, don't you?”

There, she said it again! They looked alike? He almost asked what she meant when, before he could say a thing, she clarified. Twins? His head turned when hers did and he gave her a look, not disbelieving, but just a little unsure. Hands reached up to run along his horns. They obviously slanted down, hers up, there was little he knew of his own appearance beyond that.

Still… there was no denying he understood what she spoke of. With her he felt a comfort he likely should have felt with no troll, not while putting everything he had into simply surviving these trials, at least. "You really think so?" At first he only wanted to believe her, but as he thought, he started to feel she must be right. "We could… We could, I bet." Slowly he became more talkative, a little more enthusiastic. She really was his sister, he was sure. "I still owe you one, too. I gotta stay around and pay you back, right?" And there was that smile again, small, but still there, because they were going to make it out. He wouldn't die here alone.

The girl was relieved that he felt the same. He wasn't just a boy now, but her brother. She smiled, “Of course. But we have our whole lives for that, don't we?”

* * * * *

After a bit of walking, the the girl and the boy came into a more open area of the caves, and light filtered through. Far in the distance many white creatures could be seen, but one loomed and caught their sights first. Ahead, a great white beast stood, as if waiting for them. A hoofed beast, with a shaggy coat of fur around its neck, and horns. The bison stepped forward, approaching her and her brother.

This was it, this must be the beast that had chosen to raise her, and probably her newfound brother as well. The lusus lowered its head, touching her forehead with its own.

A bellow sounds from the lusus, "Ah....piiiyooouu..." Apiyou? Apiyou! That was her name, then. She turned to her brother, “My name is Apiyou!” She couldn't believe it. They had actually done it. Her lusus gave her a gentle headbutt on her arm, and flicked her tail towards herself. With a nod, the lusus began to move toward the exits of the cave.

Apiyou's heart sank. Her lusus was trying to leave. That couldn't be right, what about her brother? She turned around to look at him, her eyes wide with shock.

A new sense of relief washed over him as they finally found their way out of the winding tunnels and into what would surely be the rest of their lives. And so it was, a large, white bison stood before them. The boy couldn't believe it. This lusus looked so strong and it was coming closer to them. It was choosing them? Maybe with a lusus like this, he really could learn to be a survivor, too.

He was ever patient as his sister was greeted by the creature. When she was given her name, he smiled for her, even more than before, and he tested the name on his tongue. "Apiyou." Now he would receive his, he was so sure, he was so ready. But…

The beast began to leave. It hadn't addressed him at all. Did that mean… it hadn't chosen him? He looked around almost frantically. Surely another would choose him then, but none came close. None seemed to even notice him at all. Could they sense his weakness? The boy's eyes darted back to his sister's, to Apiyou's. She looked as shocked as he, but he couldn't even bring himself to speak.

He would die here alone after all.

No, no, Apiyou couldn't let this happen. She turned back to her lusus, the great white bison, and shook her head, feeling the tears that threatened to form.“What about him? We can't leave him!” Her lusus was stoic, merely blinking and trying to nudge Apiyou to leave again. “No, he's my brother. I'm not leaving without him, and you have to take him with you too!”

She was feeling frantic, after everything that happened she was just going to lose him? She saved him and he would just die, nameless, moments away from the future she had imagined they would have together? “Please, you need to take him too.”

Her lusus looked over to the boy, silent for a moment. It seemed to consider her plea, taking the time to decide what it would do. The longest moments passed, and the beast breathed deeply, sighing, and gave a grunt. “Amadis.”

That was her brother's name. Apiyou's body relaxed. The lusus chose him too! The bison's tail flicked impatiently, and gave a soft stomp of its hooves. Apiyou waved to Amadis, bidding him to come over here with their new lusus.

The look on his face grew darker and darker as his sister begged the great beast to take him, too. It wouldn't. He should have known this would happen, that he really wasn't meant to live. That sister of his… she never should have saved him. That's what he started to think.

Until suddenly, surprisingly, he heard a new noise, a new name. His name? The lusus—their lusus—stomped impatiently. It had chosen him, too. He was Amadis! Quickly, not wanting the lusus to change it's mind, Amadis ran to his sister's side. Now he, no they, really did have a future.

LordPocky:
It was so wrong! All wrong....

Zariah's lusus had taken him out for an innocent little walk.....neither had seen the elder troll coming, nor could either fight him off, he was too strong....too big. Zariah was merely a wiggler....he couldn't possibly hope to hold his own against someone so much bigger, with a prompting from his lusus' muzzle Zaraiah scurried into the brush, hiding in bushes and plants, keeping low to the ground as he watched his lusus be pulled away.

Closed eyes hid him from seeing the blood, but nothing could protect him from the shrill cry of his lusus in agony, the sounds of blood sloshing onto the ground, and a cruel laugh. Zariah's tiny hands clamped over his ears as he buried his face into his legs, doubled over to try to block out everything he heard.....everything he saw....and that smell. But that cry from his lusus reverberated in his skull, tormenting him over and over even when both lusus and troll had left, even after he heard the troll take his lusus below water to feed to the Empress' Gl'bgolyb it wouldn't leave him. Just that....screaming plea for help. Just as his lusus couldn't protect him....Zariah couldn't look after him either.

The tiny wiggler curled up in the bushes, no longer protected from the dangers of the wild, no longer aware of the dangers.

Draconicfeline:
Keionx was out riding on her lusus, a rare orangeblooded musclebeast, when she heard screaming. On a world like alternia, screams and violence were commonplace.
To Kei, however, a scream was a call to adventure, a call she couldn't refuse. And she would not refuse it.
"Hark, Beastdad, cries of danger!" she wheeled her lusus around, drawing her sword. Well, actually, her Lusus turned on its own as she pulled at it's strong shoulders. "Let us be off!" she said, booting her lusus into a gallop in the correct direction.
At last she came onto the scene of blood. Orange blood, much like her and her lusus. She was a bit dissappointed, actually, that there was no monster to fight. The scene was long over.
"Where is mine enemy?!" she muttered to her lusus, frustrated... and scared. She didn't know why she was scared, but she was.
Beastdad leaned towards the bushes questioningly as she shifted uncomfortably on his back, still looking for what could have caused the carnage on the beach.

LordPocky:
Zariah remained dead to the world until he felt a muzzle prod him for his attention. He gasped sharply, leaping back as fast as he could....except.....that white snout....it-it couldn't be, could it? His lusus had just been dragged to his death to be fed to Gl'bgolyb, that was something he couldn't even pretend to think was a dream. That sound was something that would never leave his ears. Of course....his feelings of concern for his lusus were still being weighed against his concern for himself, he knew full well that a lusus-less troll was a child that was unprotected, it was only so long until he himself was culled.

"B.....Beastdad?" he asked hesitantly, reaching out to place a hand on the offered muzzle, almost wondering if he was truly there. It could just be another lusus.....actually he was almost certain it was, but a ghost wasn't impossible right? But....his hand found solid flesh. Whomever it was, wasn't his lusus.

Slowly Zariah's eyes scored the beast, finally finding the troll upon its back. A troll with the same messy hair....the same freckles....the same blood colour....and the same symbol. He finally mopped up his orange tears to blink his eyes clear. The impossibility of that troll.....but....there she was. He didn't know who she was, but she was right in front of him.

Draconicfeline:
"Beastdad, what are you...?" yelped Keionx as beastdad immediately snuffled foreward into the brush. And then she saw the wriggler.
She quickly regained composure (beastdad's rides were a bit bumpy)
"Are you in distress?" she asked, "Because I, Keionx Rutace, am here to rescue you!" she said, striking a heroic pose. She noted that the color on his symbol was the same as the blood outside the brush.
A poor lone orphan? A perfect candidate for her heroism! She felt a great and idiotic sense of pride fill her from her feet to her auditory orofices!
It took her a while longer to realize that the symbol seemed familiar...
She didn't pay it any more heed for the time being, he was in need.
"We came when we heard the scream. Was this you?" she held out a hand, "Is the nefarious creature that did this still around here?"
(She had just learned the word nefarious from her word-a-night Perigee-counter and was very proud of how heroic it sounded)
Part of her hoped yes. Part of her hoped no. Her lusus... didn't mind either way, he was more concerned with the same-blooded young troll looking very vulnerable in the mud, a troll that he very much wanted to pick up and hug.

LordPocky:
"I--" Zariah broke off. There were no words for it. This.....this troll with his blood colour, his symbol, his lusus.....even his face! How could she....who...? Maybe that was why he had been spared, to meet his doppelganger. But...why couldn't she get there in time to save his lusus? Why couldn't she and her lusus have been like a real hero and protected him? She was the worst wannabe hero ever....then again....if she had been there her lusus would've met the same fate and chances were she would just add to the pool of orange being soaked into the ground.

Zariah curled up, pulling away from her. "Uh....I'm...not r-really in distress....I mean....you're already too late. That scream was my lusus." And her name....he'd never met another troll with the same last name as him...something was weird and his mind couldn't wrap itself around it. There were too many other thoughts whizzing through his head, this clone of his would just have to be put on the back burner....at least....so he hoped. "I'm Zariah....Zariah Rutace..." he said rather hesitantly. He didn't know who she was, but it was a better alternative than to chase her off and be alone with more of his own terrible thoughts.

Draconicfeline:
She was too late...?
TOO LATE...?
"No way!" she pouted unhappily, "I can't be too late! I'm a hero!" she punched beastdad in frustration.
Beastdad turned around and gave her a nuzzle briefly. He thought she still could be a strong hero. She just had to keep trying.
Her frustration mollified, he turned back to the strangely similar youngster and, giving in to his natural tendancies, pulled the wriggler into an inevitable hug. There really was no resisting Beastdad's hugs.
Her eyes widened as she noticed what Zariah had noticed a while before.
"Wait. Rutace. Thats my name." she blinked, "And you bear my standard" she could say clan symbol but why when standard sounded better?
She didn't notice the face similarities, but she had never really noticed her face.
She put down her lance to scurry up Beastdad's shoulders and look down on the wriggler.
"... he doesn't usually do that..." she found she was at a loss for words.

LordPocky:
Zaraih choked up a little when the lusus hugged him so tightly. His own beastdad did that....held him so strong he could hardly breathe, made him feel like the tiniest grub on the planet....licked his hair into place. Oh god....he couldn't believe he was gone! It just didn't feel right! Especially not to see someone else that was just like him but with a living lusus...and a future. He knew that his chances of survival without a lusus was laughable at best.

"Yea.....and my lusus looks just the same as yours does....looked..." he said, absently correcting himself. He still felt rather numb to the whole idea, but the gears slowly worked, grasping at the situation before him. Well....it wasn't unheard of....but could they somehow be twins? He'd thought a lusus would take two of the same wiggler...? Maybe because they'd emerged from their trials at different times? Maybe each lusus only wanted one to look after? Maybe.....but he didn't really like the idea. She just seemed so.....weird. Too weird to be related to him, right? "You don't think.......I mean it's a weird idea but not unheard of....I mean it's possible that we might be....twins?" he said, scrunching his face at the thought. If that were the case the lusus would probably be willing to take him in too....but...a lusus with two trolls? None of his friends were like that...

Draconicfeline:
"Twins...?" she blinked.
The word had never crossed her mind as possible. Kei wasn't the sharpest lance in the toolhive, so the thought of being related to another troll sort of... short circuited her brain.
"I... Uh..." She shook her head.
"Don't... know?"
Beastdad craned his neck, trying to look at Keionx, still squishing the other wriggler tightly to his chest.
Kei didn't need to see her lusus' soulful, pleading gaze. She was thinking the same thing... in the parts of her brain weren't floored by the concept of twin-ness.
The other wiggler didn't have a lusus, and in a dangerous world like Alternia, he wouldn't be able to survive long.
She was an odd troll. She couldn't, in good conscience, let this boy suffer like that. In addition, Beastdad liked him... Beastdad did not normally hug other wrigglers.
"Um." She frowned, looking at the wriggler. It was a bit odd, but... "Would you... like to come with us...?" she asked, pausing, as if startled by her own statement. She regained her composure, putting on a very self important face, "I will rescue you from the wilds, fair Zariah!"
Beastdad rumbled approvingly. She was growing up well. He gave Zariah a nuzzle. He smelled right, he smelled scared, and he was lost. What else was a self-respecting musclebeast to do?

LordPocky:
"It seems crazy but....possible. I've never seen a troll with so many...similarities to me before," he said hessitantly. Did he really want to be related to her though? She seemed rather....weird and eccentric. But Beastdad safe and sound just made him able to forget that the real one had just been dragged to the briney deep. Well.....forget a little. He knew he'd never be able to get those screams out of his ears. It would haunt his dreams for a while yet.

He was thrown for a loop by her question. Two trolls? One Hive? One lusus? That was unheard of! But.....could it work? He knew full well how badly he would need a lusus to look after him, would it work when the lusus had two to look after? Well....whatever the case he couldn't refuse, could he? It was the best chance for survival.

"Uh...then....I guess if you don't mind it...."
