It was quite; but when was it not. The temple was generally a very quiet place. Though today it seemed even more so. The night before the King of the temple passed, leaving behind his ruin of history and promise, and his two sons, born on a solar eclipse. The two sons were identical, except for a few key things. It was odd, for them to be alone. Generally they spent several hours a day with their father, ensuring that he was safe, and that he was going to be all right. But lately he had started to grow weaker, and with that came the fact that his weakness brought him to his death; the end of his days. The temple was empty now, save for the two boys. And he wasn't' sure where his elder brother was.
He stared ahead, green eyes locked on the walls of his so called room. Ahead, the stars were shinning down toward him. Hunahpu lifted his head, his eyes locking on the twinkling lights above. They didn't tell him this... They didn't predict this. Dropping his head, the stallion folded his wings against his back, his ears pinning. He stared angrily toward the calendar that he had written. Since he was a child, he had written out different days, predicted different things; but this... this was not what he had planned. This was not something he had predicted or read to happen. He had made many days on his wall, planned them, read them. And now... now it was nothing. They had lied, cheated him. He was supposed to live happily with his father and brother for the rest of his days. But now...
Shaking his head with a snort, the stallion narrowed his eyes. Anger surged through his body, from his ears down to the tail that twitched angrily. He reared up on his hind legs, slashing forward with somewhat blunted claws ( due to constantly carving into the stone ), and scratched straight through the etches that made up his home made calender; made up his walls. He panted, wanting to scream from rage. What was this?! His father, where was his father?! Shaking his head, he breathed out a snarl, before shaking his head, his mane coming lose from the slight hold that it had. Closing his eyes, Hunahpu sighed, his heart pounding hard in his chest.
"Damn it... Damn it!" Hunahpu shouted, trying to calm himself down. What was he doing? Where would he go? Turning fro his room, he moved slowly out of it, and toward his brothers room. He wasn't sure if Xbalanque was in his room, but it was worth a try and look. He turned down the twisty corners and along the mazes of the temple halls. He knew it like the back of his claws, and it was just a matter of time before he found his brother. "Xbalanque...?" He called.

There was a comfort in a routine and right now Xbalanque didn't want his mind wondering, so he occupied himself with the routine of cleaning the crystals which were set back into the walls. Long ago the temple had been built by humans, though they were now long dead and gone, an older civilization than the present one which roamed the lands now, though he personally had no human contact having been confined to this temple for all of his living life so far. The crystals were craved and worked so they were flat and almost mirror like, not like the raw crystals which could be found in the deepest, darkest and most undeveloped parts of the temple, deep in the belly of their home, where the corridors and halls seem to stop and the raw earth and elements were untouched and unruly. The mirror crystals were set into the walls at angles and a large master crystal would be found near an opening in the temples walls in one of the more main halls or corridors, the light then reflected further down the corridor to the next crystal, where that one reflected the light to the next, and thus beams of natural light where cast throughout the temple during daylight hours. During the night however, the temple lay in darkness, which was why the brothers inhabited the higher levels far more as the light was better. Over the years however Xbalanque had found his eyes had matured, and he was able to work in the dimmest of lights, allowing him to work into the night when need had it. So part of a routine he had been appointed to by their late father, was to clean the crystals so the light travelled more efficiently about the temple.
He and his brother shed feathers from their vast wings, which he gathered, and also those of birds which fell through the sky lights and littered the temples floors. He had a collection of numerous different types of feathers in his room, but he'd found the small more softer feathers collected the dust better, so gathering a bunch he'd wound a thin dried length of root around them to keep them together, he used the collected feathers to dust the crystals. It was whilst dusting he heard his brothers voice echo around a corner. He knew the death of their father had hit Hanahpu hard, Xbalanque of course mourned his father, but he'd been weakening for some time now and he'd concluded some time ago his time was coming to a closure and Xbalanque respected this, though it brought him much pain and sorrow he believed his brother to be slightly less accepting of the facts. He stopped in his duty for a moment to turn and stare down the corridor, his eyes caressing the corner he couldn't see around and then with a heavy sigh he turned back to the crystal, he fluttered the feather tool across it's surface and then dropping the duster to the ground he stared at his reflection. He stared hard into his amber eyes and then still staring at his reflection he called to his brother, 'I am here brother...' Sound travelled as well as light down these corridors and it'd only be a matter of moments before his brother found him.

Hunahpu sighed softly, waiting. His ears perked up as he listened quietly to the sounds of the temple. He picked up the sound of something chirping, an owl not far from here. He could hear through the temple windows and toward the jungle. He could hear other animals; such as monkeys and some big cats. There were so many noises that he could identify, having studied them under his father when he lived. The stallion sighed a bit, flicking his ears. He had to stop listening to those noises, and instead, needed to listen for his brother. He tilted his head toward the hall, glancing down it and toward a hall that led both right and left. He stepped forward, moving toward the fork, before listening distinctly. He tilted his head to the right, and then the left. The right led toward their sparing grounds; they often went out there to test out their strength and train each other. The left led toward another hall, which led toward his brother’s room as well as a room lined with crystals; where the familiar voice came from.
The stallion knew his brother enjoyed relaxing with the crystals. He flicked his ears up, before tilting his head curiously to the side. He smiled a bit, his tail flicking. At least he knew where his brother was… He shook out his body, feathers slightly falling from his wings. Lancing down, he blinked. Oh. He took several steps back, his claws clicking against the stone floor. He gathered the feathers carefully in his claws, before moving forward once more. Hunahpu easily moved throughout the temple, making the twist and turns that he needed. He stopped after a moment, peering around for a few seconds, before he let his eyes linger quietly around the room. He enjoyed the room as much as his brother did; after all, it was beautiful in there. He walked in quietly, before letting his body stop quietly behind his brother. He looked at his brother, before quietly pushing the feathers forward and toward his brother.
”These fell off today, Xbalanque.. Here you are.” He murmured, before pacing slowly back and forth. He glanced at the crystals again, before rearing up for a moment, and stared at some of the ones his brother already cleaned. He smiled a bit, nosing a crystal gently, before taking a step back, and paced back and forth, ears pinned, eyes lowered. ”I’m scared… I don’t know what to do with myself, Xbalanque… What do we do.. now that father is gone? What can I do? What…” He had to stop himself, sighing. He was losing control of himself. Shaking his head slowly, he stopped to stare toward his brother, and watched him clean the crystals. What could he say to his brother… He was certain his brother understood. After all, it was his father that was gone now as well. But… still…
