The Festival was an exciting time, but it also made Kovu very nervous. He was still, after so many years, getting used to living with the others in his clan. He was comfortable around their smaller numbers and if he ever felt overwhelmed, he could easily go off on his own and calm down. During the Festival, the clans all gathered and the sheer number of lions was frightening to him. Strangers milling around, greeting each other and socializing.
It was like a nightmare for him.
Granted, he'd never been good at interacting with others. It was only recently that he'd decided he needed to change that. With the encouragement of his mother and the few friends that he had, he was learning how to make "small talk" and was actually cultivating a social existence. It was exciting and nerve wracking at the same time.
Kovu was currently sitting on the outskirts of a large group of lions and was scouting out to see if there were any conversations that he was brave enough to join. He'd had recent success in his meeting with the lioness Shangilia, but he couldn't count another meeting like that. He would need to be brave, like she was, and find someone to talk to on his own.
He noticed one lioness that didn't currently seem engaged in conversation. Before he lost his nerve, he slowly strolled over, a nervous but pleasant smile on his muzzle.
"Uh, hello there. I hope you don't mind me coming over, but I've never seen you before and wanted to say hello," he said, a bit lamely. Work in progress, he reminded himself and just hoped that the lioness wouldn't laugh or run away screaming.

Aarazthoorus was a bit overwhelmed with being in this festival too, but more on the matter that she had never been in such a big group of lions before. For a very long time, it had only been her and Urzlan. It would come to getting use to being around so many lions. It was scary at first, but now she was beginning to enjoy it.
It took a moment before Aara realized she was being talked to. She looked towards the male with a slight puzzled look. "Oh! Hi... No, I don't mind.." She said with a giggle. "I'm new, I'm Aarazthoorus, but you can call me Aara" She said with a smile. No one had talked to her since the festival started. Urzlan had told her to mingle with pride and get to know some lions.
"It's quite nice here." she said with a smile.

Makovu breathed a quiet sigh of relief that the female didn't seem adverse to talking. It was a lot easier for him to talk to someone one and one than in a large group of lions. Granted, he didn't have to talk so much, but it felt so overwhelming to try to keep track of who was who. Maybe after some more practice.
"Hello Aara, I am Makovu of the Bird Clan. It is a pleasure to meet you," he said politely, with a small bow. He certainly was getting better at introducing himself at least.
He nodded at her observation. As hectic as the Festival was, he had to admit that it was lovely and exciting.
"This must be your first Festival then. I have been here for a little while, though I'm still not quite used to it," he said, with a wry smile. Kovu wondered if Aara was as nervous as he had been his first Festival. The thought somehow made it easier to talk to her. He felt as though he could relate.
"May I ask what Clan you are in?"

She had totally forgot about the clans until he had mentioned his. How silly of her. She was still getting use to it all. "Oh! I'm in the Earth clan." She smiled and nodded at him. It was her first group gathering of anything. It was almost intimidating, but everyone seemed to be very nice. "I've never seen so many lions together" She admitted to him.
"I'm not use to all this excitement." She gave a smile "Do these happen a lot?" She asked him curious of the pride. She had only got small bits and pieces about the pride from Urzlan, but it was nice to hear what someone that lived here knew about the pride. She wanted to make sure she knew everything as well as she could.
"I'm sorry, I hope I'm not asking too much stuff." She added just in case. She knew it could be annoying when asked a ton of stuff, and she didn't want to be that annoying lioness.

Makovu had been part of the pride since his adolescence, so he'd had plenty of time to learn about the pride after he'd joined. He'd been surprised how easily and comfortable his adaptation into the cultural traditions and spirituality of the pride had been. Socially, he'd certainly struggled, but even so, the pride had very quickly felt like home. And so, he was always happy to talk about it especially with new members who were in a situation so similar to his own.
"Earth clan! I believe that is the same clan my mother is in," he admitted to her, though he wasn't absolutely sure. He hadn't seen her very often since they'd joined the pride. He'd been so close to adulthood when they'd joined and they'd been accepted into different clans. Kovu was hoping to see her later on during the festival.
"Not at all," he hastened to reassure her. "I am happy to answer your questions," he said with a shy smile.
"The Festival happens pretty much once a year. The clans gather for about five days to celebrate the events that have happened over the year: births, marriages, deaths, etc. For the rest of the times, the clans travel separately, though occasionally you'll run across another one for a day or so before traveling again."

She felt relieved that he didn't mind asking her questions. She wasn't sure who to talk to around here. Everyone seemed to be busy with their own conversations. "Wow, that sounds amazing." She said with an awe to her voice. Prides were all new for her and they amazed her, she wasn't going to deny it. She loved seeing everyone in the festival, and she could tell in a year, she'd be ready for the same festival. She was already excited to participate in the next one. Meeting and making new friends.
She looked around as everyone else was in their own conversations. She wondered how it would be for those who were in different clans yet were family. It almost seemed sad that they wouldn't see each other much but once a year. Yet, so far, everyone seemed happy. She looked back at him with another smile. She felt a little sorry for the male in front of her. How much he probably missed his family, but she didn't voice any of her concern. It wasn't her place to get involved in it. It was just sad.
"What are each clan like?" her curiosity floated about her head with all the questions she wanted to ask, though she didn't want to ask all of them to this male, but a few he could help her with. It interested her how each clan went their separate ways, so to speak. She knew that it would take a bit of time to get use to all this, but she knew when she did it she'd fit right at home. It seemed like the place for her, even know when she didn't know much about the pride.
