Jericho had no clue what to do. He was stuck on a potions assignment because he couldn't tell speckled owl feathers from the speckled feathers of a jobberknoll. The assignment was to create a minor truth serum, but without the right ingredient the Hufflepuff knew he was doomed. This was one of the final exams for the class and if he didn't get it right, he was bound to fail. Potions had never been his specialty. Holding up the two feather samples to the light, he peered at them. Both speckled, both black and white. He sighed. If only he knew what blue was supposed to look like!

Selina sat a few tables away working on a chart with a line up of potions in front of her of various sized and shaped bottles, as well as verious colors. Every so often she would lift a bottle, study it carefully then consult her chart. The Ravenclaw wasn't really doing needed homework but was instead quizing herself on the different potions that she had made in the previous years.

Jeri, too nervous to try one feather or the other sat and watched the girl, his chin on the table.

Selina kept working, not noticing her observer, at least until she bumped her quil off the table while putting one of the bottles down. She blinked, the figerative spell of concentration broken, then bent down to pick it up. As she was sitting back up she noticed the younger boy looking her way and flushed a bit. "I ah, do you need something?"

"Sorry, he said quickly, feeling quite embarrassed himself. "Just watching." He was so flustered that he hurried to get on with his own work and accidentally tipped over his own small cauldron of brew. Uh oh. All the work he'd done up until then, gone. Oh well...most of it had probably been wrong anyway. "Sorry," he said again, hurrying to gather everything back up.

Selina put her quill on the table then got up and moved closer. "Um, are you alright?" She asked, having no clue what he was trying to make so she didn't know whether to be alarmed at the spil or not. As it was she quickly banished it with a wave of her wand. "What were you making?"

Jeri stared, horrified, when she banished his mess, but he supposed it was for the best. At least the two feathers still remained on the table. He would have to start from scratch. "Truth serum," he mumbled. "Second year final."

Selina tucked her wand away and gave a tiny nod. "I remember that." She clapsed her hands behind her back and ducked her head a bit in embarassment at the horroified look the younger had. Really it would be better for him to start over again, better in memorizing the steps, but that didn't mean she didn't feel guilty.

"Um..." He wondered if it would be cheating to ask for help, but had wasted so much time already, and there was only so much he could do with the ingredients he had left. "Which is blue...?" the Hufflepuff asked, feeling a little stupid as he gestured to the owl and jobberknoll feathers.

Selina tilted her head slightly at the question, looking between the feathers and the Hufflepuff a few times before realization dawned on her. She gave a small shy smile and gestured with her hand. "The one on the right. If you look closely the speckles on the blue on are slightly more oval like."

"Oh." he examined the feather more closely and committed this detail to memory. It would certainly come in handy in the future. "Thank you," he told her gratefully, before glancing at the potion she herself had been working on. It seemed a lot more complicated than his and he hardly dared to think what it could be. he would have to start over on his, sure, but at least he'd already done it once and now he had this new tip. Plus there's no way it was as complicated as the other girl's. "Third year...?" he guessed.

Selina's eyes flickered over back to the table she had claimed, following the boy's eyes then looked back. "Yes." She said with a small nod. "For a little while longer anyway." School year was almost ended after all.

"Fun...?" Jeri asked, thinking that was an awful lot of work to put into something that you didn't enjoy. Must have been what Third Year finals looked like. He tried not to feel intimidated. "Looks hard."

Selina ducked her head slightly. "I find it much easier to work with then DADA." Memorizing she had no trouble with so it was good for potions, power behind spells was a diffferent thing all together. "Ah, and this isn't actually homework. Um, or practice for finals." Sure she had made a potion that might or might not show up in the final before she started to quiz herself but it was for the quiz, not for practice in that way.

DADA...? Oh, right, Defence Against the Dark Arts. That class was a pain, sure, but at least it didn't involve ingredient-picking and color-determining. Then again, who knew how much harder Third Year DADA class was than Second Year's? Jericho's eyes widened in shock as he was told that wasn't actually homework or practice. "Then what...?"

Selina blushed and half shrugged. "More for fun, or um, to test myself." It wasn't that weird to do such projects in Ravenclaw but it probably wasn't for other houses she assumed.
