The young foal was wandering alone in the outskirts of his family’s herd. His great grandfather’s guard warned him to stay close to the herd but he couldn’t help but wander away. He was always trying to get away from the herd. He just wanted a break from all the stares he received and the whispers about his appearance. It was lightly snowing and the ground was simply dusted in white.
It was his first time seeing snow and he liked it. It was cold and wet made his feathers ruffle a bit. One thing he enjoyed more it seemed silent since most probably took shelter when snow fell. He trotted through an open meadow and just paused while looking up opening his mouth to catch some snowflakes. Yes, he was overly amused---but can one blame him?

Xelloss could see his breath in white puffs in the air. He was already covered in a light dusting of snow that was steadily melting against the warmth of his skin. It was only mildly uncomfortable, but enough to take him out of the air for now. There was no telling how the weather might turn, and it was better safe than sorry where blizzards were concerned.
Xelloss wandered through the unfamiliar territory and wondered if he would be able to find anything that vaguely resembled a shelter. He walked past an open meadow, uninterested until he noticed that the meadow was inhabited. The sight of the darkly colored foal gave him pause. Even from a distance, he could tell that it was no normal colt. He approached the edge of the meadow and looked more closely. From here he could make out spines along the foal's back along with deadly-looking claws on the end of his legs. He did nothing to hide himself from sight and would be plainly visible should the foal glance his way.
Interesting. The b*****d child of a purewalker, perhaps?

He was so caught up in the snow he did not sense the kalona close by to him. Griever gave a sigh of satisfaction and plopped himself down onto the ground. He looked at the front of his golden talons sinking into the earth’s ground. Watching them wiggle underneath the snow and when a large gust of wind past him, he was nearly knocked over. As he looked up he just happened to catch sight of a stranger in the distance and he sprung up quickly onto his clawed feet.
“Who—are you?” he said to himself. Now the snow was a nuisance for it hid the figure’s features. He could only see a shadow at his distance and he could tell this one was an adult it had wings that much he knew. His talons dug into the ground and his feathers ruffled up; he tried to puff up to look intimidating.

"Who am I?" replied Xelloss to the foal's question. He stepped out of the shadows into the open meadow. He shook the snowflakes from his mane and then from his wings and tail. He could be dramatic every once in a while when the situation called for it. The foal looked even more interesting from closer up. Now Xelloss could see that there was something unusual with his mouth as well. While the colt might look like a monster, his curiosity was entirely normal for someone his age.
"I... am a kalona." For once, he didn't give his name and title immediately. He decided to do a test of the parenting skills of the family of this particular foal. If they were intelligent parents then they should have taught him that kalonas were big scary badguys that you ran away from on first sight. "Do you know what a kalona is?" He smiled and was the picture of harmlessness... if one discounted his sharp horns, pointed teeth, and spaded tail.

When the stallion became more visible he drew back a little. My what big horns and wings he had; no one in his herd had things like those! His eyes widen with interest and he started to paw about in the snow with his front footed claw shyly. He gave a light nod “I know what they are.” He paused briefly “I always wanted to see a kalona.” He told him quietly.
The young foal was warned about the kalonas and skinwalkers however he didn’t fear kalonas like he should. As it was he felt like an abomination in his herd compared to his brother who was blessed with a sweet appearance. He kept looking the kalona over with excitement and enjoyment.

Exasperated, Xelloss frowned a little. This was exactly the sort of attitude that he ceaselessly took advantage of, yet it galled at him a little more every time he encountered it. Kalonas had spent years terrorizing the soquili lands and yet so many treated them like they were misunderstood or lost souls. There were even many like this child who showed no trepidation at all when a creature with any sensibility would have run away. Xelloss had personally tormented and manipulated a long line of soquili, and yet he had obviously not even made a dent in the population of gullible fools who would still fall for his tricks.
He knew he wouldn't like the answer, but he had to ask. "Tell me." Xelloss looked down at the foal, disappointed at the entire soquili race. "Why do you want to see a kalona? We're evil monsters, you know." Ordinarily he would have said something like that with an ironic laugh. Now, he could only sigh. He would be doing a public service if he taught this colt the truth about his kind. He hated doing any sort of public service, but this was an issue of personal irritation for him.

He could not help but shrink away a little; however he tried his best to keep his ground. He never lowered his head when he spoke for he did not want to show his fear. The harpy looked up at the male kalona and his eyes hardened “If others think I’m this evil creature or abomination perhaps maybe I could fit in with the kalona race. Then again-“
He looked at his wings and tail “Perhaps not.” he sighed.
He sure had some sharp teeth of his own and large talons but that didn’t make him fit in. He knew his father and mother carried harpy blood. Yet the other harpies he’s seen that were not part of flock did not really resemble him except for the feathers.

Xelloss... was skeptical. It made a certain amount of sense that the colt idolized kalonas in his position. If he was being mocked and teased for looking monstrous then naturally he might think that he belonged among monsters. It was a very childish sort of logic and fantasy and entirely baseless outside of that.
"Maybe you do fit in with us, maybe you don't." He made a show of slyly eying the colt's features. Those claws would be excellent weapons against another soquili if he ever had desire to use them as such.
"Tell me," he asked, lightly. "Have you ever felt the desire to kill another soquili? Maybe your parents? Other foals?"

“Kiiilll someone?!” he froze in place. The thought never crossed his mind he never wanted to harm someone. Yet others believed he would harm someone with those sharp claws and spikes on his body. He was not the normal foal in the herd after all pretty much an outcast he looked towards the kalona “I don’t think I have..I mean I’ve gotten angry to the point I’d wish they’d disappear however kill someone no.” he said dryly.
Perhaps he did not have an evil nature as he wished he could have. Yet he felt so alone and despised he could not help but wish to fit in with someone.

Xelloss was unimpressed and unsurprised. This was no fiend in the making. It was just a brat with an outsider complex. He wanted to be a kalona but lacked the personality for it. He considered this and what he should do about the colt. He wondered if he tore the spines from his back whether it would be a favor in the long run. He would look less strange without them.
"Well." Though he still smiled, he grew more predatory and less friendly by the minute. "Most kalona do desire to kill others." He dipped his head slightly, his bangs falling forward and shading his face to give him a somewhat sinister look. "Many kalonas even act upon that desire and do kill their fellow soquili." He paused for a moment before continuing. "I, for example, have personally killed many soquili during my lifetime." If the foal didn't know to run away from kalonas at the start of their conversation, Xelloss intended for him to know by the end.

A chill ran up along his spine and his eyes widen. He felt his spirit running however his body was numb. How can someone kill someone? How could anyone desire to take someone’s life with no reason he looked up at the kalona and his eyes harden with disgust. A strong desire to fight him was growing and his feathers ruffled up. No, he knew he could not fight him at his current age now. He cursed under his breath.
He wanted to move; he wanted to run yet he could not bring himself to walk away.
“Get away from my son!”
Griever turned around to find his father along with the herd’s guard Lutherian. He did not look pleased and he kept an intense stare on Xellos. Rave headed over towards them quickly and stood between them while looking up at the kalona “What business do you have here?” he huffed. His chest puffing up and his eyes secured on him. Lutherian stood close by to Griever and was ready to attack when commanded. He kept his usual vacant expression. The armored stallion had a great dislike for trespassers ever more so if they were something evil.

Xelloss looked sharply at the two stallions who had suddenly appeared, baring his teeth in a mockery of a greeting smile. One was obviously the foal's father, the other an impressively muscled armored stallion. He took a few steps back away from the foal, though gave off the impression of predatory refocus rather than retreat. He opened his wings. It was a display that both made him look larger and prepared him for withdrawal should the two adult soquili attack. He hadn't come here looking for a fight and had no intention of participating in a superfluous battle.
"You might want to talk to your son about kalonas," he taunted, closely watching the two for any movements. "He seems under the impression that we wouldn't tear him limb from limb if we find him out wandering alone." His eyes flicked sideways when he spoke, looking back at the foal who had so admired kalonas when they first met.

Rave shot Griever a look and his son looked away. He turned his attention back to the kalona and his eyes narrowed in a harden glare "Don't worry. I'll deal with him later." He sounded like he was on the verge of boiling over in anger. Rave kept his stance and tried to look intimidating to Xellos. He growled "Do us the favor and take your leave." his claws dug into the earth.
Lutherian kept still waiting for the command. He would not strike unless he was told to strike. He lived the life to serve after all and these young masters he would lay his life down if he needed too "Stay close." His grunt voice spoke to the young one.
Griever flinched at the look his father gave him. He knew after all this if they made it out alive he'd be in trouble. Though he felt it was worth it for he know had a better understanding of these kalonas. His herd provided him little knowledge to begin with and luckily for him this kalona wasn't in a bad mood at the time or he'd lose his life just crossing paths with him. He looked down "Yes sir..." he sighed.

Xelloss had had his fun, and now it was time to take his leave. It had been an amusing exercise while it lasted, and he hoped he had made his impression on the foal. "Good bye, then." He tipped his head and his wing almost jauntily at the imposing stallions. He would leave, but not because he was frightened.
As he began to draw away, he gave the foal one final look. "Next time you meet a kalona, they might not be as patient as I am. Keep that in mind." In a flutter of snow flakes, Xelloss was gone. He flew back into the snowy sky, wondering if he could find shelter with less irritating neighbors. Idly, he considered what he'd done. It wasn't often that one of his sort gave a solitary foal a second chance like that. He hoped that the foal would learn his lesson well.

Griever just simply nodded to the Kalona. His words would stick to his mind next time he meets a kalona. His only hope is he'd be old enough to handle it. Instead of having his father and the herd's guard protect him. He felt pathetic...pathetic indeed..
Rave simply looked away as the Kalona took off. He started to walk ahead back towards the herd. His anger was ceasing but he was still irritated at his son. How could his son simply ignore his heeds? Shaking his head as he walked along silently; this was going to be a long awkward quiet walk home.
Lutherian lightly nudged the young one "Come on, young master." He said softly while he followed Rave. He kept a a close watch on Griever as he followed behind them with his head down.
