Calypso had always woken before the sun and turned in long after it set. Hers was a life filled with strife, battle, and quick decisions. The peace that now consumed her life was a welcomed relief. For the first time in years she had friends, a place to lay her head down at night, and a home. A home all her own.
However, some habits were harder to break than others. Now that the sun had begun to rise she realized just how long she'd been awake. Had she even slept at all? She couldn't remember. Her paws carried her further and further away from Pride Rock, intent on finding the herd she'd been tracking.
Her tired eyes browsed over the tall grasses around the watering hole, sharply assessing the situation. Nothing. She sighed and kept walking.

Akairo left his den with haste that morning, doing his best to be as silent as possible in order not to unleash the flood of pups who slept in the same place as the Scout. Those lethal balls of fur would surely grab on to Akairo with sharp teeth and tiny claws if he wasn’t careful enough. Out of the corner of his eye, the red Scout saw the amused expression of Twigg, the maned wolf that was his companion and the mother of all those little terrors. Her eyes told him that his own expression and cautious steps must’ve been ridiculously funny to watch but apart from a little grin, Akairo made no acknowledgement of having been seen.
Carefully, he continued all the way to the mouth of the den and left without saying a word. And then he ran. He ran very quickly. Painted Moose Sorry I took so long to start!

The orange huntress stood sentry atop a knoll with a promising wind whipping around her. Bits of wild mane dipped down across her eyes, and she tossed them to the side with a quick paw. Her claws flexed in the vibrating ground, feeling it tremble as a herd of zebra came into view.
There were too many for her to take on by herself, but not so many that she couldn't have some fun. With a whooping laugh, Caly took off at a flat run towards them. Their numbers closed in to keep her away, but she never got very close. Instead of hunting the beasts, she was content just running with them.
She nudged them to take a turn, a turn straight for the Pride Lands and it's waiting hunters.Mogami No worries! I adore Akairo's edits!

After a good deal of running without a mere glance over his shoulders, Akairo caught the movement of a zebra herd out of the corner of his eye and spun on the spot to quickly change his direction. At first he couldn’t really tell what had spooked the animals but it wasn’t long until he’d spotted the orange shape running amongst them.
If at first he was content to watch that familiar shape, Akairo quickly grew impatient and sprinted forward before he’d had time to catch his breath, making a beeline towards the orange lioness.
"Calypso!" He called out to her, once he was running next to her, noting briefly how she was just a tiny bit larger than himself, despite being a female. "What are you doing?" The Scout chuckled good-naturedly, following her pacing.

Calypso's paws bounced over dips and dives, grooves and dried pools with the zebra as they ran from her. The orange lioness just smiled. Others may have rushed them at this point, but she wouldn't dare. They were already scared out of their minds, and anymore could cause an incident.
It seemed as if the entire herd shifted, and what she had thought would be a hunting party turned out to be a red lion. "Akairo!" She checked on the zebra before moving closer to him. "I'm moving the herd so we won't lose them. They were on the border." After a good clip, she started to slow. "What are you doing?" She asked with a teasing smile.

Ah, well. That made a lot of sense. Akairo had almost expected her to say she’d been doing it just for the fun of it. It was something he would do…
“Well, I recognized you and thought I’d join you. It looked like you were having fun.” The Scout chuckled again when the question was thrown right back at him. For the first time, he noticed how he’d affected the herd and grinned at the wary animals. “I seem to have disrupted your plan… just a little.” She had been doing a pretty good job so far but nonetheless Akairo’s arrival had somewhat changed the direction of the herd.

"I am; having fun, that is." Now that you're here. Before the run had been enjoyable, but now it was fun. Although, the Scout tended to make even her darkest days brighter.
Calypso looked back over the herd, and huffed. It wasn't what she had in mind, but turning them over to a different plot of terrain would still make them easier to track.
As they neared a sloped area, she got a wickedly playful idea. The Huntress slowed to a jog, allowing the herd to bypass her completely. When it was clear, she padded over to a hollow tree. "If you want to have some real fun, help me split this." Caly gestured down the length of the brittle wood.

“Okay…” Akairo said slowly, bright eyes betraying his inner excitement. “But really, how much fun can you have with a tree?” The lion’s tone was playful and he grinned widely as he lifted on paw to the tree.

"Just trust me." She placed her fore paws between a crack in the wood and pried them far enough apart that he would have no trouble grabbing onto it. "Grab onto that side of it, and pull." With as much as it was already giving underneath her weight, it should snap easily with his help.
Calypso couldn't help grinning. She knew, just knew, that he was going to love this. It was one thing to go running with prey beasts, but this....this would top it all.

Akairo didn’t mind admitting it. He was really curious!
The red lion followed Calypso’s instructions, mirroring her grin and movements. He had a feeling the poor tree – or what was left of it – was about to give in under the sheer pressure of the two adult lions.
“Alright…” He started slowly, his voice low and muffled but his expression even brighter than before. “So what now?” Whatever Calypso had planned for this, she had the red Scout’s full attention. He was used to being playful and lively but not really in the absence of his friend's cubsso this situation was somewhat unfamiliar to him. His companion Twigg would mock him to death if she could see Iro now!

When the wood began to crack under the pressure, Calypso couldn't help looking up to Akairo. It felt like ages since she'd been able to do something so completely childish and reckless; almost as if it were beyond her reach. The excitement was at it's peek when it finally split.
She pulled it to the edge of the hill, careful to move it as far from any stray rocks as possible. There would still be obstacles, but nothing they couldn't handle. "Now we ride." Calypso's smile was nothing short of a wicked grin. The orange Huntress stepped into the log, settled herself near the rear, and used her paws to steady it. "All you have to do is sit up front and guide it. So, do you think you can handle it?"

Akairo met Calypso’s playful gaze with one of his own, growing more excited by the second. The moment she started dragging the poor mangled wreck of a tree, Akairo could barely contain his curiosity. His tail danced playfully behind and he laughed. Alright, destroying a tree was actually more fun than he’d expected but it seemed Calypso had something else planned for them.
“We… ride?” he asked, looking dumbfounded as Calypso positioned herself on the improvised sled. His grin became so big that he felt his mouth was about to tear apart. He hadn’t done anything like this ever since he’d been a cub and at that point he was more interested in being responsible than really having fun. He stepped forward with mischief in his eyes and took his place. “Give it a push?”
He did not want anyone to see him right now. He was letting go like he hadn’t in a very long time and this was almost a private moment, precious and intimate. Quite the gift from Calypso. He really hoped he’d be able to guide it safely all the way down… but the sense of danger was part of the fun, too.

Mogami Short post is short because I have three bored cats. 8'D Concentration is at a minimum, lol
She took a deep breath, straightened up behind Akairo, and shoved with all of her might. The sled shot off, sailing over pebbles, and leaving her cares behind with her paw prints.

“This is going to end in tears…” Akairo said in quiet tone full of expectation as Calypso took the deep breath before the plunge. And then they were off and it was amazing how much faster it seemed they moved when he compared it to what he could remember from his cubhood days - he assumed their combined weight played a part in that. He hadn’t done anything this reckless since… since… well, since he’d enlisted during the last war as an adolescent and got a few scars to prove it. Alright, so that had been somewhat reckless as well.
“HEY, I’M PRETTY GOOD AT THIS!” he shouted while the landscape flew past him, maneuvering the improvised sled roughly as the base of the hill drew closer at an alarming rate. And then he saw it. A small cluster of rocks, not very big but wide enough that they’d be impossible to avoid. “OH OH..- HOLD ON!”
The sled hit the rocky formation with a horrible thud, Akairo felt it flip around violently and for a brief moment he was airborne, suddenly watching the blue sky before everything went dark. He could feel a throbbing pain in his ribs but he lingered where he’d fallen, not ready to open his eyes just yet.

All she could do was smile from behind him as the world passed by on either side. Akairo really was a natural born flyer! And then that last bit..."WHAT?" Calypso shouted, squealing when she felt her rump shift on the 'sled'. She got as close to him as she could to see over him, and what she saw wasn't pretty. "TURN, TURN, TUR-" The rest was an open ended scream.
For a while all was calm. Caly could only remember doing a lot of tumbling, as her bruises could attest to, and landing on something soft. She shifted and groaned, moving her head over something warm. What...? Oh, oh. She didn't have to open her eyes to know she was ontop of Akairo.
