It hadn't even been a day since he put the new hunter coat on. In the corner, his trainee one sat folded up as a reminder. Those days were over and the new days were rolling in.
It was funny how much a coat gave you a little more confidence. Sure he was on probation, sure Clerise was currently placing her life in his hands and he was feeling guilty about that and that if he messed up once...she'd get her arm blown off...or worse...death..
But being a full hunter now, he'd do better by her. he'd do better by everyone. With the snap of his glove, he studied himself in the mirror and nodded.
Almost...
Chama murmured as he got up and took it.
"No...It's the past. We're going to shed it."
----
At the training grounds, he studied hunters far and wide. He wanted to test his new power, power he unlocked. but scared to do so against other hunters in fear he would mess up.
that was until he saw a flash of red and the swing of an axe he had fought with...and foughten against many times.
Bracing himself, keeping his cool as much as he could. Instead of the amazingly and almost questionable cocky grin, Dakota went over to the sun hunter with a flat and almost composed face.
"Rep." He kept his distance in case the ace swung out against him, "We have unfinished business between us." Dakota pulled Chama out and waited. "About time we finished it don't you think?"

It was easy to lose himself in thought on the training field, swing after swing thudding into the training dummies. It wasn't the same as before, he'd been using the time to plot new ploys against Sasha, to siphon off anger, now it was just rehearsing familiar routines, patient and insistent, trying to strike the exact same spot every swing.
When Dakota approached he didn't notice at first, too wrapped up in the task at hand, about the closest he came to daydreaming. He almost jumped out of his skin as the other man spoke, and proved Dakota's decision to keep his distance correct as he flubbed a swing and lashed out at where he could well have been.
He let the blade drop to the ground, giving Dakota an irritable look. "You are still alive?" The discussion with Clerise hadn't managed to soften him to the other hunter or his decisions. On some level it made sense, moons defending no matter what, but what had been said to him that day wasn't forgiven or excused so easily.
"You can try I guess."

Unlike before, there was no smart comment, no quick jab at manhood or protecting the dead. Instead Dakota inclined his head and nodded. That was a start somewhere...wasn't it?
"As alive as I'll ever be Rep. or going to be?" Chama swung out before the teen hesitated. "Unfinished business as in I owe you things Rep."
"I don't like to be in debt as a hunter." So he took a breath and narrowed his eyes. "What I said that day, I take back every word of it. Except that you're an a** because you are."
"Because I talked to Clerise and I realized that I was being selfish." He held up Chama defensively. He'd wait for Tracey's attack, he knew it so well.

Rep wasn't sure what he was expecting from Dakota, a bit of sarcasm maybe, a sharp tongued retort, maybe even a strike with Chama. The last thing he was expecting was an apology.
The comment took him off guard, made him stop and stare, not quick enough to hide his surprise. He wouldn't ever have been able to apologise in the other man's shoes, there had been a lot of bad blood between them and his pride stood in the way of so many things. There was a lot of respect that he'd actually taken the time to.
Despite all of this it ultimately didn't change the fact that apology or not, his words had been true.
"It was honesty though. So whatever. I don't hold that s**t against you, what I did hold against you, you are already being punished for." He didn't even attempt to refute the fact that he was an a**. Even he wasn't so mired in denial as to try and pretend that particular statement wasn't true.
Hefting Tracey up, he swung, because it was the training fields, and because somehow there was something a spar could solve that words couldn't. "Because, like, lets face it really, no one would ******** miss having me around."

"Honesty or not, Wasn't my place to tell you things in anger." Dakota huffed as Tracey came down, skidding along Chamas blade and FEAR shield. "And you do." He pursued his lips. "I'm not even you and if someone told me something cruel like that, bet my a** I would be beating up theirs..."
"Clerise is. Because she fell on the sword for me...." Dakota stilled his hand for a second. "You know when I say I'm selfish...That's what I mean. I expected other people to want to die for me...because I would die for them. Because I expect that everyone feels the same as I do..."
"It makes me one of the worse people on the Island. Especially since I cover it under anger and lash out on those who are more honest with themselves, Who can face it and know that orders are absolute."
Dakota shrugged again, "I'd miss you." Just as the word were said, he moved in, darting past Tracey's length and width to slash at Rep's shield. "You are and probably will still be one of my favorite people to piss off."

Rep smirked wryly. "I'm used to having people say s**t to me in anger, it brings out the honesty in people. It hurts sure, but I bring it on myself. As far as self-sacrifice though, arsehole or not, I would and someday will probably have to die for all you dumbshits. And I will cause it's my job." The insult wasn't sharp, an edge of dismal humour in his tone.
There was some sympathy there too as he added. "Orders aren't absolute, if one of the arseholes in charge told me to ******** murder one of my friends or guys in cold blood I'd tell them where to shove their ******** order. It's all about context. If they were monsters though, well, I'd hope the people in charge knew something I didn't. That was the difference out there."
Chama's strike connected with his fear shield, slicing away a neat portion of it, but he barely registered it, surprised again and decidedly warmed by the sentiment that he might actually be missed, even if it turned out just to be because he was fun to troll in the end, that was better than nothing at all and he wasn't complaining. "Well you did really ******** well at that back there, let me tell you."
He laughed, an honest and almost relieved reaction as he swung out with Tracey again, the smile audible in his words.
"You dumb ******** moons, I swear to god."

Dakota nodded, that part that clicked the recognition of honesty about himself...It was probably that he had pent up feelings like this about everyone. But even in anger, he should learn to mellow it down. The last thing he wanted his ruined friendships. Even now, He wanted to mend.
"Don't worry, Pretty sure I, or anyone of the moons will be at your back dying right there with you." It wasn't a pleseant thought but, "Because that's our job too, Suns and moons. We're not the same division but we're suppose to be the best of the teams."
"It's hard because the order came from Caelius but...that's the excuse I like to give myself. I know you're right, he's right, and I'm right...We're all right, just the situation ain't." He rubbed his hand over his head, and gave the cockiest of grins.
"Just so you know, It's not always trolling or whatever. I kinda of like you as a person too. I mean, ******** this is awkward as ******** but..." Dakota shrugged, "I considered you a friend. Still do....So..." Dakota switched his feet...
"Are we kinda of cool?" Of course he said this mid attack, as Chama flared and engulfed Rep in fire.
"Like I'll moon your a**, you'll sun mine?"

It was way easier to keep conversations from getting awkward and unmanly when there was a fight going on around it. Rep wasn't sure exactly why the hit from Chama hurt so damn much, but the fact was that it did, enough that the flare of fire was enough to make Tracey yelp in surprise in his head as it seared away a sizeable portion of his defences. Still, his thoughts were only half on the state of his defences, more on the relief that he hadn't managed to completely decimate one of the few tenuous friendships he'd managed to find on the island. Dakota was a good guy, just this time had been a good guy who'd made a bad choice, that was all.
He dusted himself off and nodded, "Aye, there aren't enough of us in the whole ******** eclipse combo for grudges. Especially not over stupid s**t. We are good."
Swinging Tracey he got some momentum going with a few arcs before leaping forward to smash the blade into Dakota's shield.
"Except your ******** weapon, she's like the anti-Tracey. It's not cool at all."
Tracey huffed in his thoughts.

Dakota could almost feel the relief of tense, hurt, anger and such roll off him. It was like...It was like Chama said. Forgive yourself, and maybe others would too.
He'd made a bad choice, even if it was right in his mind, it was still the wrong one. To be forgiven for it, even when he had said such cruel things...
Yeah it felt good, and he would probably treasure the friendship he had with Rep just a little bit more. The blow from Tracey sang on his FEAR shield and snapping him back to the battle.
"There isn't...." And with one of the pairs out in the sahara well...Ryan and Kat were just...No. he'd get them back when he could, how he could. Until then, his orders were absolute and the friendship he needed to work on was here and now.
Then he smiled, like a cat. A scary cat. And tiptoed from one foot to the other.
"Chama kinda of just preened in my head..." He watched the dagger glow a little brighter. "And that's because we know you a little better on the battlefield." Dakota flattened his feet and pushed himself forward, this time...as he ran his blade against Tracey's, he pushed the axe away and roundhouse kicked the sun hunter.
"Me and Chama make a pretty decent team against tanks?"

"Tracey just got all huffy." he smirked, picking himself up after the kick threw him off balance, dropping back into his battle stance.
There was an edge of teasing in the fallen angel's tone, along with barely concealed delight that he'd just found an ideal way to wind Rep up.
Rep couldn't help but look nonplussed, even though his annoyance had nothing to do with Dakota. "Make that huffy and annoying." Summoning up the charge, he let the shadows swirl up from the massive axe, along his arm where they curled around his throat and vanished, leaving nothing but a warm heal in their wake.
He wasn't sure why Tracey was in such a good mood, but it was mildly irritating rather than helpful.

Dakota studied Tracey, then Rep's face. He always, always wondered what hunters and their weapons talked about. As of now Chama kept her cool, was not so much of talker...unless Dakota needed it.
"Your weapon isn't like...having dirty thoughts about me or something right? Marcus's weapon does that. Dis has just....questionable thoughts." Dakota waited, "Especially when we spar..."
ESPECIALLY WHEN WE MARCUS AND DAKOTA SPARRED.
"Ah Chama says....we should test out our new attack...so here we go?"
He held out the phoenix sword in front of him and watched flames like the blade. And flare out, much like a sun flare. And right into Rep's FEAR shield.
Must've felt hot but to Dakota, it was like a warm feeling surrounding him and...spreading out.
Odd.
"So just to make this like awkward...How'd you like getting enveloped in my heat?" Ah for old times sake...

Rep's nonplussed expression got even moreso, with a smidgeon of exasperation. "Dis is a ******** creepy as s**t weapon." He'd been subject of the vampire's attentions during the golem incident and witness to Marcus' attempts to keep him in line. Tracey was a wind up but nowhere near as persistent as that. "Tracey's not that bad." He didn't deny the fallen angel's comments though.
He was about to voice his objection at being the brunt of a new untested ability, but didn't get the chance, hauling Tracey up defensively as the flare of intense fire careened right into him and his shield. Being a hunter didn't take away normal human reactions entirely, and as the flame so hot he could feel it just by looking at it hit him, he was certain in a primal sort of way he was going to die. He held his ground only out of instinct, and as it vanished was intact and unharmed, if smoking slightly.
And then Dakota had to join Tracey in the troll-the-hell-out-Rep stakes. He sighed. Loudly. Before retorting sharply. "Seen a lot hotter."
Two could play that game.

"Yeah man, I got to meet him as a golem and I just...thankful he turned his attention to Chama instead of me." As if the memory still bothered him, he shuddered. "Wait so your weapon is...thinking of me?"
WEIRD.
Dakota curled his lip and batted the image of Chama as a boy AND still telling him about how adorable and cute and handsome other guys were.
"Well, I guess I'll just have to make it..tighter."
......Except Chama was all flared out. Well...
"Okay well, this doesn't happen...ever." The flame she sputtered barely was enough to cause any serious damage.

"After a explosion like that...I think she would need time to recover..." He shuffled and then grinned...
