Hel, to her credit, had walked the old Famine Sage back to the Lost Clans Territory…and as soon as he set a boney foot safely onto the land, she had taken off. She ran back to the reaper dorms at full speed, tripping and rolling through the snow at intervals until she was clearing the stone steps and barreling her way through the doors of the common room. She forgot to collect all her belongings by the fire place and they were the furthest from her mind at the moment. The ghoul leapt up the stairs two to three at a time, and skidded across the third floor balcony and down the hall. She then ran right into Mac’s door, and bounced off of it, coming back to bang a gloved fist on it, and then remembered that she rarely knocked, and tried the door handle, jiggling it impatiently.

Silence, beautiful sile----
akfjghkjagha
Mac fell out of bed, landing heavily on his tailbone in his attempt to flee whatever angry boilfriend was on the other side of that door. Since Herryk, nobody ever hit his door with that much force so naturally he was startled. No, not startled, scared out of his wits. Especially since he hadn't done anything wrong to any ghoul! He'd been staying away from Freya and Amphi, and the whole thing with Lizzy, well...he figured that may have blown over by now. Shun had ample time to throttle him for it and even then, announcing his arrival with a dramatic door-pounding was not the Shinigami's style.
Whoever it was seemed to figure out that there was a door handle, and Mac sadly left his door unlocked. It was only a matter of time now, his brain told him with a great deal of unease. You'd better be ready. He wasn't ready. He needed time to prepare for whatever beat down that was just beyond that door; So he didn't answer it, but he did stand awkwardly near the open window, half trying to play it cool and half settling for a fighting stance, but always with the option of a skydive out the window.
That was safer than what was to come, he was sure of it.
He also may have not remembered to say anything, perhaps secretly hoping his silence would make them give up and leave.

It was over as soon as Hel realized the door was unlocked…not that a locked door would have stopped her anyways.
In a rush to get past the door before it had opened all the way though…well, it was like she had fallen on it, and it flung open, sending the ghoul tumbling into the room and onto the floor. The ghoul then picked herself up, propping herself on her forearms as she looked around the room wildly before wide red eyes settled on the figure by the…window? “MAC!” She exclaimed loudly, and nearly breathless after dashing through the snow from the Lost Clan Sanctuary and then up three flights of stairs.
Hel ended up pushing herself into a standing position, and reached behind her with a foot to slam his door shut. She then proceeded to pull off her hat and fling it to the floor, as well as shrugging out of her winter tunics, because damn, she was way too hot now. “I am so pleased you are here!” She went on, her chest heaving from the exertion still and her cheeks red as pulled off her gloves next. “I have something I want to tell you!”

Mac grit his teeth and raised his fists, preparing for whoever was coming through the---
Hel?
At first too stunned to move or speak, Mac merely stared slack-jawed. Hel was the one hammering on his door, and now she was...on his floor? Was she okay? He should ask if she was okay---Oh, well, she was already getting up. Okay, so that was cool. Less for him to ask. What in Halloween was so important that she needed to act like that? You know what, scratch that last question. Hel was Hel, and Hel didn't need a reason to act like anything.
"Uhhh...Hi?" He said slowly, lowering his fists and just staring. She was undressing now, and he had to watch in a sort of morbid fascination; the ghoul could barely breathe and yet she was talking and undressing. That was talent, and a lot of it. The fact that she had something to tell him didn't seem to phase him, he was more or less just confused over the manner in which she decided to bring whatever this was to light. "...What's the rush? Are we under attack again?"

She didn’t seem to notice the fact that Mac had literally just rolled out of bed, or that he had been standing awkwardly by the window, or that he had his fists raised like he was about to try and pummel something.
The reaper shook off her other mitten, and stood still for a moment, taking a deep breath as she then opened her mouth, and then paused. Her brows furrowed. No, no. Still too hot! She ended up kicking off her boots and then shimmying out of her orange tunic, leaving her in her three-quarter sleeved shirt, bloomers, and stockings. There. Taking another exasperated breath, she strode closer to the boil, her hands out and already gesturing animatedly. “No! We are not…but that is sort of the point!” She cried. “We never know when we might be under attack, or what could happen—to anyone—and so I hate to say it—“
She was going on a long wind. “But that Old Man I talking to was correct! Anything I feel that needs to be brought out into the light should, or else I might regret it if it is not…words unsaid if something terrible were to happen, so thus, I have something I would like to tell you!“ She then stared up at him with bright eyes and a grin, clearly expecting him to quickly be on the same page from her enthusiastic spouting of words.

Mac wasn't even in the same book. He looked as confused as he felt as she prattled on about this, that and the other thing while undressing in front of him. Was this a weird way to ask for sex? Was that was this was for? She did say they weren't under attack so...oh wait, but...they could be? Was something going to happen soon? He was trying his hardest to listen and follow, but between his stress before her arrival and the confusion that quickly followed, it just wasn't happening.
"...What about talking to an Old Man?" He questioned hesitantly, feeling like he was on the verge of understanding. If the ghoul hadn't decided to speak so damn fast and animatedly it wouldn't have been a problem! "Okay, you know what, speedy?" He shook his head and donned a new nickname on her, holding his hands in front of himself and gesturing for her to slow down. "Slow down. You're going a ********' mile a minute and you need to stop. Okay? Okay. Now, slower this time. What in Jack's damned name are you doing here?"

Hel was chomping at the bit to just get it all out now, Mac being put off be damned. Sal had lit a new fire under her, and she was obviously frustrated that she wasn’t being clear to him. Hel went silent, her lips pulling into the utmost frown, and when she was told to stop and start over, she threw her hands into the air in exasperation. “ ARGH!” She huffed, her hands falling and slapping her sides loudly and her nostrils flared as she huffed again. The ghoul stomped off then. Only to the little kitchenette, where she turned on the faucet and took a much needed drink of water from it. She returned, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, and took a deep breath before exhaling. Focus, Hel, focus. “ Alright.” She enunciated slowly, holding her hands out and up as she started talking again. “ I was speaking to Gramps…who is a horseman I met at the Battle of the Bands.” Luckily now, she was more focused, and speaking normally. “ He is very old, and treats me like a scareling, but…oh well! I was speaking to him in the reaper common room, and he told me if there was one lesson he could impart, it would be that anything could happen to your loved ones and friends, and there is nothing worse than words left unsaid.” Hel paused then, and gave Mac a ‘are you with me now’ look? “ So what am I doing here, now?” She rested her hands on her hips. “ I want to tell you something…that has been on my mind for a while, and I am tired of letting it stew…and I would regret it if something happened and I did not say anything. Will you hear me out?”

"Don't you argh me!" Mac snapped, eyes narrowing in frustration. "It's not my fault you're a freaking speed demon today, back off." A hand waved in dismissal, but he watched with growing disapproval as she stormed off to get a drink and get a hold of herself, despite knowing that he should be disapproving since she was going to clarify herself. Old habits died hard, really.
This time, he understood. Sure he was a little weirded out by a Horseman called Gramps - seriously, what kind of a name is that?! - but at least it made sense. Anything could happen to anyone, and it would be a shame to have things left unsaid. When she gave him that look he frowned at her again, snorting as if offended. Yes Hel, he understood. He understood, and he thought he had an idea as to what it was about. After all, he had things left unsaid himself.
Though he did technically say it once, he wasn't keen on saying it again. Or pretending it was real. Or having any sort of discussion over it. Or pretty much getting himself involved in anything that would clearly change the way his life was at this moment.
"Nope. Not Interested." He informed her, folding his arms across his chest. It really was her fault for giving him the option, and he made his choice easily. There was always the option that he was wrong; there was certainly a chance that she could tell him this little game they were playing was over. She could so easily be using this as a way to walk out of his life. Either he lost her as a playmate or feelings were brought sober into the open: either way, no.
"Was that it, then?"

First Sal had shattered her world with a realization…and then Mac did the same, whether he meant to or not. Hel had never thought it possible that someone would say no when she asked to speak to them on a serious matter. She was rather stunned, and it showed on her face as she stared at the reaper wide eyed, her lips parting a bit in surprise as her hands fell from her hips and to her sides as well.
Then a mixture of confusion and hurt flitted across her face. Mac was always there to listen when she wanted to talk. Why was that changing now? Maybe because…it involved him this time. He knew it. She knew it…and he must have known that something was up. Well…yeah. If this was any other ghoul, she might have fled from the room already, or pleaded, or begged to be heard out…but this was Hel.
The confusion and hurt only lasted on her face for 2.5 seconds before her lips curled in anger and her brows furrowed. “If you thought you had a choice in the matter—“ She hissed, glaring up at him, “Well you do not. You will listen to me, you will hear what I have to say, and then you can make of it what you will! Then, only after I have said what I have wanted to, then I will leave.” She leaned in closer to him.
“Are we on the same page still?”

The look on Hel's face was what shattered his world. In all the times he knew her, he couldn't ever imagine that look. The confusion, the hurt...it was different than the hurt she expressed when it came to Mot. This was something he did, not some a*****e he could easily hate. It almost hurt him to see that look on her face, but as it were Hel's true colours - and her amazing resilience - shone through bright and clear. Naturally it was in a spurt of anger, and before Mac knew what was happening he was trapped between the firecracker of a ghoul and the cold wall.
What a fantastic place to be, stuck between the unfeeling and pure anger.
"No." Mac hissed right back, freeing his arms on his own strength to grab her shoulders, trying to pushed her back enough to free himself. "I have no interest in what you have to say! There are only two things you could need to tell me after this epiphany. One of which I refuse to accept, and the other I don't want to hear." His fingers dug into her shoulders, still seething under the surface.
"I don't want what we have to change in any way, so no, I'm not on the same ******** page and I won't be for a while!"

Hel braced herself so that she couldn’t be pushed easily and without force. When his hands moved to grab her shoulders, her hands shot from the wall to grab his wrists. Her nostrils flared in agitation at his denial, and another look of confusion, mixed with her anger, flitted across her face. Which one would he refuse to accept, and which one didn’t he want to hear? That’s what she wasn’t sure about.
At the mention about change though, Hel snorted, and then let out a frustrated cry, throwing her head back as if she was expressing her frustration to some force above as well. “I do not want anything to change either!” She cried back. “So with that in mind, will you hear me out now!?”

"NO." He cried right back. Both of them were deadset on their own agendas; Hel wanted to tell him something, and he was determined to not hear it, no matter what it was. They really were too stubborn for their own good! "Don't be stupid, Hel! No matter what it is you have to tell me, no matter which of the two things it is, it'll change. Even if we don't mean for it to happen, it will, it just will." He growled out, his teeth gritting with the sheer determination to not hear a single thing she had to say on the matter.
"Can't we just leave it unsaid for now? I can't handle hearing it right now. Please."

“Which of us is being stupid, Mac!?” Hel howled angrily right back. “We both know there is a Jack damn elephant in the room, especially now! You think you can just sweep that under a rug!? You think that is reasonable to sweep it under a rug!? You think everything would be fine if I just let it drop right now? You do not think things would change for the worse by choosing to ignore it? Do you think it is healthy to not acknowledge it?”
Hel almost wanted to throw herself on the floor and kick and scream. She felt pretty frustrated enough to do it. Just throw a tantrum like a little scareling.
“Nothing stays the same forever, Mac! It is only natural that things change!” Hel wailed, as if spouting off this logic would help her somehow. “If you can not handle hearing it now, then I can not handle leaving it unsaid for now! I will explode!” She stomped her foot then, just because. “So which is it going to be, huh? Which one of us is not getting our way today?”

"You are!" Mac shot back almost instantly. If his hands hadn't been on her shoulders to keep her a distance from him they would have been thrown in the air in exasperation. "Why ruin a good thing? I know there's a jack damned elephant in the room but right now I don't give a s**t." She was right on a few things: it wasn't healthy to ignore it, it wasn't reasonable of him to keep it under wraps, and it certainly wouldn't be fine if it was just dropped right now...but he really didn't want to hear it. Seriously not now.
"I know! I ******** understand! I don't want things to change now." He growled, his words and tone still heated thanks to their lovely conversation. "Listen, Hel. It's only been two months since I got out of a complicated and stressful long term relationship with someone I loved very much. I still love her deep down, I know I do. I'm not ready to notice the elephant in the room with us. It's a pretty big ******** elephant, Hel. Don't think I don't notice it! I just...I don't want to think about it. Not right now. I want something simple and easy and uncomplicated and without talking about feelings." His fingers were digging roughly into her shoulders, likely harder than he intended, but he didn't seem to notice. It was one of the rare moments where a squishy underbelly was showing, and having to lay it bare to her was painful to him, even worse having to admit out loud something he was trying to forget and bury.
"Please, Hel. Back off, at least for a little while longer. Please."

Hel opened her mouth to shoot back immediately, but she was shut down for the time being by well…the intensity of Mac’s rebuttal. Why ruin a good thing, he asked. Ruin. Those insecurities she had been battling earlier, the worries she had expressed to her sister were starting to knaw at her again. Maybe she did ruin everything she touched. Once again, Hel couldn’t hide how she felt. Her face was a mirror to how she was feeling, and that anger she had been riding went right out the window.
She wouldn’t make fun of him for showing any underbelly. This wasn’t a laughing matter, and she wasn’t going to mock him. She understood what he was saying, and maybe she wasn’t being clear from the start, because everything he was asking of her…it wasn’t like she wanted to upset what they had going, but walking out of his room without telling him how she felt just wasn’t an option. Hel didn’t seem to notice the painful way his fingers dug into her shoulders. She’d be reminded if they bruised later, but that wasn’t important. Her hands loosened from his wrists and slid away, falling at her sides, and her head dropped for a moment as she thought, her eyes lidding.
The valkyrie was silent for a long moment, before she shook her head a bit and lifted her head. Like her posture, the anger was gone from her voice, and though it was now soft, it was still determined. “Mac…you are not listening to me.” She murmured. “It…it is fine if you still love her, and…oh Jack, it is fine if you do not feel anything more for me, truly it is. I meant it when I said I do not want anything to change right now…and I am not asking anymore of you than you already give me. I just…I just want you to hear me out right now. I am not looking for a reply, an answer…or whatever…I just…I just want you to know how I am feeling…I just want you to acknowledge what I am feeling…Please.”
She waited again, her lips pulled down in a bit of a desperate frown.
