It had taken her some time to regain her composure. Purging herself of the many plaguing overwhelming emotions had done her some good, but she still felt shaky. Her hands had a slight tremor, and she could only imagine how pale she must look. It had been a terrible, vicious comfort knowing that she had someone - something - to turn to when she felt like she might explode. Even if it had been vile and destructive, it had been an outlet - and without it, Sasha was feeling low, lost. She glanced at her phone where it rested atop her scarf and jacket. Sasha reached for it and pressed the smooth back of it against her forehead before opening it, sending off a quick, curt text. Ravvlet Text to Wash:come to the beach you know where to find me

Wash didn't bother texting back - he hated typing on the damn phone, and wasn't very good at shorthand. Besides, she probably knew that as soon as he saw the message he'd head her way. Mutual trust. He wondered what it was about, though - had something happened since his chat with Jordan? He prayed it wasn't so, but the idea hastened his steps.
He knew where to find her.
She was sitting in the sand, not far from the surf. He approached her slowly - it was strange, reliving this encounter of theirs in the light of day. This little strip of sand, between the land and sea. She was still just as captivating to him as she had been that night, perhaps in spite of everything he knew now - or maybe because of it.
Wash sat down next to her, lips curved in a warm smile.
"Hello, beautiful," he murmured.

Her first instinct, when she saw Wash, was to smile. She leaned her head on his shoulder, just as she had that night on the beach, and was silent for a long, long time. Her toes wiggled methodically in the sand as she allowed herself to just enjoy being near him.
When she spoke, her voice was thick, clogged with repressed tears; trembling with harsh emotion. A barely-there whisper, nearly drowned out by the distant surf.
"Rep ah.. we had a talk."

Wash watched the movement of her toes, resting his cheek on the top of her head. He sighed into her hair. It was a nice day. He wished they could have more of them. He was just about to ask what the occasion was when she suddenly spoke, her voice at odds with her body language and casual demeanor.
He snaked an arm around her waist, resting his hand on her hip. "What happened?" he intoned quietly.

"I told him I couldn't do it anymore. That it wasn't worth it. I told him he won, I just," she paused, exhaling shakily.
"I couldn't do it anymore. I can't. I can find ... some other way to cope."
Sasha paused.
"A way that doesn't hurt you."

Wash listened quietly. She had given that up, and for him? He had known it was important to her after their last conversation, when she'd all but... and now, this. He closed his eyes. After a moment, he sat forward a little, to use his other hand to tilt her chin up toward him. He laid a gentle kiss on her lips.
"Thank you. I know that... must 'a cost you." It hurt something inside him, to know he was causing her pain, that she'd felt like she had to give something up because of him. But it also gave him hope. Hope and... something else.
He tried to show her, with his eyes, the set of his mouth; how much this meant to him. How much she meant.

She was quiet for a long time after that kiss, eyes locked on his face as she drank in his expression, the look in his eyes.
"I thought that.. I thought I could do it. And then the more I sat in the labs pretending to work, the more I realized that I never wanted to hurt you. I never want to hurt you."
Sasha shook her head.
"I guess.. I don't know. It was just an endless cycle of self destruction and maybe I knew it all along, but. I couldn't admit it to myself until we talked. I never want you to feel like you aren't enough for me."
She rested her temple on his shoulder once again, silent for a moment.
"I need you to.. do something. For me."

Wash nuzzled the top of her head gently, closing his eyes so that she wouldn't see the shine there; the glimmer of tears unshed. It means so much to me, that I mean this much to you.
"Anything," he rumbled.

"My flute. Jerry has it, and I just.. I need it. I'd go get it myself, I just."
Sasha tilted her head up so that she could look up at him.
"It used to help me."
I hope it helps me again.

A flute. He'd known she had some musical talent - it had been she and Jerry who'd started the hunter choir, but he didn't know much beyond vague assumptions. It was humbling, how little he did know about her; but it was also intriguing. This learning process - getting to know her as she got to know him, learning how that finely-tuned mind of hers worked.
"O' course." Wash cleared his throat, opening his eyes to look down into hers. "I'll talk to him."
He smiled gently. "Singin', and playin' an instrument? You're a talented little lady." He gave her a light squeeze.

Sasha slid her hand down so it cupped the one at her hip, fingers lacing between his. Her lips curved upwards in a tremulous smile.
"I appreciate it. I appreciate you."
The smile was gone as swiftly as it had settled.
"I haven't played for some time," she sighed quietly. "Busied myself with more destructive hobbies, I suppose."
Sasha let out a wry, clipped laugh.
"I'd talk to him myself, but I don't think I have the patience."

Wash sighed, still smiling. "Yeah, Jerry's... Jordan said he's doin' better. I sure hope so." He squeezed her hand.
"It can't hurt to give it a shot. See if playin' feels right again." He kissed the top of her head. "If not..." He smiled into her hair.
"If not, I guess I jus' gotta find some other way to keep ya distracted," he murmured teasingly.

Sasha let out a low, rough laugh, voice thick with emotion. Tears spilled over but were quickly brushed away with her free hand. It was odd, really, how this moment felt - as if the fresh start she'd wanted right out of the pod might finally, finally be coming around.
"You're terrible," she whispered fondly, shaking her head against his shoulder, briefly falling silent.
"Think we should head back?" Sasha mumbled at last, sounding as if the very idea repulsed her.

Wash watched the waves lap at the shore, silent for a time. Finally he slid his hand to her back, rubbing it in gentle circles.
"Nah, they prob'ly don't miss us yet." He stretched his legs out, slipping off his own shoes and digging his feet into the sand. It was nice here, peaceful. Peace was a commodity that was hard to come by, these days. The gentle rhythm of the sea, the gritty feeling of sand between his toes. It was simple, clean.
He leaned back, content to sit and enjoy the quietude.
