It was something that had already been decided for her beforehand.
After Fleur had met Dianthe; her predecessor, she had simply skipped off and went to play around the gardens. What she didn't know that Dianthe was having a serious meeting with the Vernalis about her, the future Handmaiden of the currently five year old Princess Chronos. It was something to be blissfully oblivious about, at that time. After all, she was only eight!
"What do you think of her?" The Vernalis; Iris had asked, a grim expression on her face.
"As you've said." Dianthe said, seated primly across the older woman, hands folded upon her lap. "Rather playful and wild, but she's quite bright. And pretty adorable too." As she said this, her lips quirked upwards slightly.
"Yes." Iris said with a sigh, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. "She's been skipping lessons from the Priests and it's hard to get her to focus. I think it's high time we solve this problem."
"I'd imagine you already have one." Dianthe replied.
"I've spoken to Mau about getting Fleur a guardian cat as a tutor."
And with that, Fleur's fate had been sealed. Dianthe had agreed with the idea, saying that the little Princess had Zue, after all, and she didn't see a problem with this. The Vernalis and Patron's decision was absolute, and there was nothing the young girl could do to overthrow it.
...Except to be totally sulky about it. "I don't want a cat tutor!" Fleur huffed, crossing her arms with a pout. She didn't want any tutor, period, but if they were engaging a tutor from somewhere other than the Temple, it meant something serious. And she had heard something about her Princess having a cat too. This was definitely serious!!
"Hush." One of the Priests soothed, patting her on the head after she had finished braiding her hair. "He'll be here from Mau soon. You have to put on your best behavior when you meet him, remember."
Fleur grumbled, and practically dragged her feet all the way from her room to the entrance of the Temple of Flora. It took a frosty glare from the Vernalis for her to stand up straight and settle her face into what was passably a neutral expression. It didn't stop her, however, from clasping her hands behind her back and twiddling her fingers nervously. In the young girl's mind, this was certainly going to be a hell.

Yue arrived at the entrance of the temple, and greeted the Vernalis, Dianthe, and Fleur with a respectful bow. He lowered to his knees before them, "I am honored to make your acquaintance" He nodded to Dianthe, with a polite smile across his face. He shifted his gaze to Iris with a warm expression, "I am glad to see you looking well, Vernalis." He had visited the world Flora and met the Vernalis before. He possessed great liking and affection for the world, and it's inhabitants. They were a peaceful race with much love and respect for nature. In his first visit to Flora, he regarded the the head priest and Vernalis Iris with with much admiration and awe. Gradually, they had developed a familiar relationship that was similar to that of 'friends.'
In establishing diplomatic relations, Yue possessed the knowledge, skill, and qualifications to become an high-ranked ambassador.
His familiarity and knowledge of Flora made him best-suited for the position. However, his role also included that of a tutor to the young handmaiden, Fleur. Despite the fact that he felt he was not qualified to care for a child, Iris had encouraged him for it would be to the benefit of both parties. Because he had little interaction and experience with children, Yue was uncertain of how to approach Fleur. He approached her carefully, as he sensed and understood her reluctance.
He kneeled down matching her in height, and offered her a courteous smile. "Hello, Fleur. It's a pleasure to finally meet you. From today on, I shall serve as your private instructor and guardian.."
He paused for a moment, before he murmured "Let us to do our best in the future, shall we?"

It wasn't unprecedented for Iris to pick someone she knew and trusted would be able to keep Fleur out of trouble. Choosing someone entirely unknown to her, though recommended by Mau, could potentially result in someone who very well could be not... suited for Fleur's wellbeing. The Vernalis bowed her head with a smile, Dianthe choosing to greet him with a small curtsy as she was accustomed to in the Zodiac Court.
Fleur, on the other hand, only stared, goggle-eyed. So this was her tutor. He looked old! Not really super old because he didn't have a beard but he had white hair so that meant he was old, right? And old people were boring! "Um... hi." Feet were shuffled awkwardly, and Fleur wondered if it was polite to ask him his age. Probably not. Iris was already regarding her with yet another one of her cold glares, and she sunk down into a quick curtsy, like she had watched Dianthe do. That was okay, right? It wasn't as though she could introduce herself, when he already knew her name.
...But she didn't know his! (Fleur wasn't one for paying attention when she was being briefed.)
"Yeah, I hope we'll have fun!" She managed a smile in return, eyes sparkling with interest as she noted his ears and tail. They were really fluffy! "Um, can I... touch them?" A finger pointed at his ears, the expression on her face less awkward and significantly more cheerful. "Also, um..." Fleur dropped her voice down to a whisper, "I don't really know your name, I'm sorry!"
Behind her, the Vernalis mumbled something about behaving herself, and Dianthe hid a smile.

"..." Yue regarded Fleur's google-eyed stare with a uncertainty for he did not know how to interact with her anymore than she did.
At this point, he was aware of the fact that he probably should have said something. Anything. For a adult who was able to handle diplomatic affairs between countries with ease, he did not have a clue on how to interact with children at all. (It was fortunate that he couldn't read her thoughts for he would have been shocked by her assumption that he was old! In light of his white hair, it was a plausible assumption. But he was only in his mere twenties!) At Fleur's quick curtsy, he chuckled, aware of the Vernalis's cold glare and it's effect on directed person. Anyone who could resist was a braver man than he. He had succumbed to it once or twice himself.
He was just about to say something in reply, when he was interrupted by her abrupt question. He went utterly silent.
.. S-she wanted to touch his ears? He has never been asked such a question, so he didn't know how to react. Perhaps because a Mauvian's ears and tail were such a normal occurrence on Mau, he never thought to stop and think how it might look from an outsider's point of view.. Thought most adults would not have thought to ask such a question, a child was an entirely different matter. His ears perked up, betraying his emotions. "W-well.." He stammered looking helplessly at the Vernalis for some help on the proper course of action.
A moment passed before his ears lowered in defeat. "Of course." He resembled that of a defeated cat. However, he was not the type to take mere half-measures. There was a sudden poof, and the place Yue occupied was now occupied by a fluffy, white cat.
"If it is merely petting, would this suffice?"

Fleur merely beamed up at him, bouncing slightly as she rocked back and forth on the balls of her feet. It didn't seem like an outlandish request to her! And she was confident that she would eventually get him to agree even if he didn't want to, with a puppy-eyed look and a pout. No one could resist that! As he turned to look at the Vernalis, Fleur turned too, turning on the puppy-eyed pout on Iris. It was something she wouldn't normally dare to use in serious occasions, but this? It wasn't as if she was going to hurt him or anything!
Besides if he was going to be her tutor, she was utterly entitled to getting to know him better.
Iris could only roll her eyes, knowing that there was no persuading Fleur otherwise when she had that look. "Be gentle." Was all she could say, stifling a sigh. "And his name is Yue, Fleur. Listen when you're being briefed, honestly."
"Yay!!" Fleur squealed as Yue acquiesced, clapping in delight, ignoring what Iris said about listening to... whatever. Eyes widened as he shifted into his cat form, her hands now covering her mouth as she gaped. "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh!" Cue more bouncing. "Yue, you're so fluffy!" The little girl was positively vibrating with excitement as she inched closer to the cat, reaching out a hand to pet him. "This. Is. So. Cool!"
And completely disregarding what Yue had said about only petting, Fleur threw her arms around him for a hug. "Yaaaaaayyyyyyyy!"
Iris clicked her tongue, and Fleur immediately jumped back, grinning sheepishly. "Sorry!" A tentative step was taken forward as she reached out to smooth down his fur.
