Lunch time - a well welcomed break for the Lifer. He'd been tending to patients in the infirmary all day, mostly refilling IV's and changing bandages, or some status check ups. A lot of busy work, which he didn't mind. Kept his mind off the whole incident with Caelius and the others. He just had to do his work and everything would be fine - no blistering of Nevada.

Even if someone had put five hundred dollars on him cracking within a week.

Getting his tray of food, he put himself by a red head he'd seen on Twitter occasionally. Rep, right?

"Mind if I sit here?"

Rep's day generally consisted of training, the usual combination of swimming, gym and training fields, but he was not an early riser, so by lunchtime he had achieved a grand total of waking up. In some way lunch was his breakfast time, and it showed, surrounded by empty mugs and nursing a mug of hot chocolate of his own. Somehow he'd managed to procure baked beans on toast from somewhere and had apparently polished half of this off too.

When Lex asked to sit, he got a look, not a negative or a positive one. Rep wasn't used to anyone other than his guys sitting near him, most of the cafeteria tended to give him a wide berth in case he kicked off.

"Don't have to ask me you know." he said curtly, taking another sip of his hot chocolate, giving the other man a critical look, he was sure he recognised him from twitter and had at the very least spotted him at poker way back when. "Lex is it?"

Smiling at the other man, Lex held out a hand of greeting. "Yeah, Lex. You're Rep, right?" Just to make sure, after all. Lex didn't know many of men on island, unfortunately. The poker night had been a start - but he never really did any follow up with that. Maybe he should have done this sooner.

A broader, more relaxed smile as he. "If I remember correctly from poker, you're from Sun, yeah? How's that treated you so far?"

Rep eyed Lex's hand as if it was a strange and unusual creature he was showing him rather than a gesture with an expected reciprocation. "Aye. I'm Rep." At the very least, this grudging neutrality was a positive step up from his usual flat out hostility. He took another calm sip of his drink.

"And Sun. Well, considering it's a division full of absolute nut cases I guess I fit right ******** in. I wouldn't be anywhere else though, the Lead's a good bloke and we get to basically have a green light to beat the s**t out of everything."

Retracting his hand with an inner shrug, Lex continued to smile. Alright, some people didn't do handshakes - he could deal with that. He sat back and took a few bites of the sandwich he'd been able to procure from the kitchens as rep talked, processing the information as he chewed.

Ah, that last bit. Yes, a good few people had been sent to the infirmary lately, due to sparring. Was that what Rep had meant? Hopefully not, but one couldn't help but hear rumors.

"Mmm..." His smile faltered a small bit, making a disgusted face at the sandwich. Spam? Really? "Would that include fellow Hunters, then?" He asked nonchalantly, pulling the meat out of his sandwich.

"No quite. We get clearance to beat the s**t out of other hunters when they bring it on themselves by challenging us, aye. But no necessarily random beatings in the hallways, as much fun as that would actually be." He picked up the crust off the bread and ate this idly before turning his attention back to Lex.

"You are Life?" he wasn't sure if he'd remembered correctly, but as far as he was concerned it was a fair guess, the guy looked well groomed, not too scarred.

Fun? Lex squirmed a little on the inside, Regal actually appreciating Rep's sentiment. It made him all the more uncomfortable. Sure, he'd beaten people up before, back in Vegas, when they were being rude and feeling up other patrons. He'd also given Dakota a good whipping, but the kid had basically challenged him, like Rep had alluded to at first.

"Yes sir, Life. It's alright." A swig of water, a slight chuckle in the back of his throat. "Let's me get to know people in more ways than I'd prefer, but at least I get to do some cool stuff. I never dreamed I'd be on my way to becoming versed in ancient languages, for one."

Rep couldn't help but give the guy a slightly pitying look. In his opinion, being in life had to suck. Sure, there was the whole having access to computers side of things, that was a bonus, but the having to deal with nerds every day and the whole infirmary stuff had to suck. "Don't ******** envy you." he smirked, "Patching up ******** whiners and s**t while being all weedy and nerdy. And the techs too."

At the mention of ancient languages, he didn't look so much impressed as baffled. "Why would you want to learn s**t no one talks anymore?"

Lex just waved the first part of Rep's statement away. It wasn't so much that he minded infirmary duties, he would rather the patients not threaten him while he tried to redo their bandaging. He'd had knock some patients out just to get them to sit still long enough to change their bandages.

The techs, though? He could do without them. So demanding and bossy and acting like they were above him. Sure, they could make things and knew more than him, but that didn't put them above him. He knew where he stood on the real totem pole.

Lex smiled at the question though, and simply pointed to Rep's ear, the one with the giant earring hanging off of it. "That earring, and your weapon, and anything runic is why. Runes are ancient, dead languages. Atlantean, Greek, Norse, Latin - just to name a few. We need to know what the ruins mean, and how they can be applied to benefit Hunters." He answered easily, as though he'd memorized the handbook. It wasn't nearly that simple, what with the multiple layers of runes that went into their technology, but it was a fair explanation.
