User Image Poppy had again wandered away from the security of the warren. She still remembered the large bucks that had taken her back, in less then prime condition. Shaking her head, the black and white markinged doe moved through the thinning trees, the leaves laid on the ground making soft rustling sound. Stopping and sitting up a bit, she looked around to the sky that seemed darker then when she had begun. Poppy sighed and looked about at her surroundings, she didn't know why she was always wandering out here. This wild life still made the doe uneasy, but her old life was for not. Sniffing around the leaf litter, Poppy wondered if there was anything to eat here, there wasn't that much on the Down. That was for sure.

Mudroot sniffed about the place he had made his make shift den. It wasn't the greatest and it sure wasn't the warmest at times but it served its purpose. A few rocks had tumbled lose and trickled down into his burrow and so he was in the process of clearing them out when he noticed a new scent on the air. "Hmm?" he mumbled to himself in his deep rusty voice. "Smells like rabbit." he chuckled to himself, glad that it wasn't elil. But it wasn't any rabbit he recognized. His nose twitched a few more times as he mulled over the scent while he shuffled about his business, his ears twitching here and there. "Not krolhi, no..." he muttered again to himself. The strange buck had a way of making up his own words for things. His nose twitched again as he popped his head out of his burrow. "Hmmm... warren... definitely warren." he mused, giving a soft grunt as a bit of wind ruffled his fur. Shaking his head, he cast his glance around, emerging from his hole and following his nose until he spotted the back of a black and white doe. His ears twitched again. "Ah... excuse me... warren... rabbit?" he tilted his head, not being much for greetings. "Shouldn't you be back in your burrows? Don't want an krakra swooping down and scooping you up for a nice efley, eeh?" he grinned, chuckling at his own jokes full of his made up words the doe probably wouldn't even understand. Sometimes he failed to remember he had swayed from the lapine language and found his own words for things. They at least made sense in his eccentric mind.

Poppy shuffled a little before turning around to see just what was talking to her. Pale pink eyes looked skywards for a moment before landing on the old looking rabbit that had snuck up behind her. "What?" she said soft before tilting her head to one side, her white rimmed black ears twitching a little before coming to rest in a forwards position. "Warren life ain't caught on to me. I still miss my hutch. You don't live in the warren?" Poppy asked puzzled as to why this one lived way out here instead of with everyone else. "I thought everyone lived with others."

Taking a couple steps closer to the buck, her own nose twitching as she watched. Her certainly was a strange one, the words he said confused her.. Like everything else in this world. "What did you say about, something swooping down? Nothing up there but limbs and sky. what else can there be?" Now that was a thought, but all these thoughts to once was starting to make her head hurt.

And suddenly it all made sense. "Ah, yer a hutch rabbit." he said, using the proper word instead of his own this time to spare her any more possible confusion. Though he couldn't help but let out a raspy chuckle as he watched her. "A krakra. I believe the warren rabbits call it a hawk. Just one of many dangers to rabbits like us." he said, taking a moment to clean his paws before swiping them over his nose. "And no. I don't live in a warren.... I'm a Krolhi by choice." he said, this time his tone not so full of amusement, as if suggesting hes really not happy with the choice he's made.

He took a moment to stop and scratch behind one of his ears furiously with a hind leg. "So, warren life not coming to ya so quickly eh? Looking... to go back to your.... wirell?" he said, eyeing her curiously. After all the shots and commotion he heard coming from the farm, he wasn't sure why anyone would want to even think of going back there. She was such a pretty doe too. To think someone like that would have almost become efley for the furless.

"Yes, my Marli was as well, but she was from a different farm then the one I was freed from." Poppy said as she looked around again, her ears listening for anything that she might hear. "Hawk?" Her head tilted downwards a little in thought, "Oh yes, I know what those are. Man killed one of those that was circling my pen I shared with my siblings. Man never hurt me, or my siblings." she paused a moment shuddering. "Well he didn't until the wild ones came, sometimes I wish they had left things alone."

Crouching low to the ground, her paws pulled in close to her chest, ears falling back. Looking at her company, she didn't seem to mind the old buck. Really he seemed nicer then those whom had pulled her back to the warren when she tried running back to the farm and her hutch. "I don't know if I will ever get used to living out here. The walls of the warren are nice enough, but they don't feel as safe as the hutch. Food was more there too." A sad expression slipped over Poppy's face as she remembered her home, her real home. This one just made her feel, lost.

"Do you ever feel, misplaced? Like you know where you should be, but can't seem to go back or fit in where you have come to be?" Poppy asked looking back at the buck.

The old buck listened to her tale about her life on the wirell. He couldn't understand willingly living on one, having to rely on the furless for food and shelter. How finicky they could be. They may have not hurt her but that didn't mean they wouldn't have. Or at least in his mind. But he remained quiet, simply muttering under his breath about things, though he still listened to her every word.

The wild ones. Those must be the warren rabbits that raided the wirell not long ago. The shots still rang clearly in the back of his mind, like a buzzing bee that refused to leave. "Blasted Warrens, always trying to 'save the day'. Can't leave well enough alone." sighs and shakes his head, ruffling his paws together. He made a few more soft muttered comments to himself before nosing about the bushes near his small hole in the ground. "Life is not kind to us wild ones, as you put it. More so to a Krolhi like me." he said then paused, turning to look her over at her last statement, giving a very brief nod. "More than you know, Rilfei. More than you know." he said, his eyes cast down and full of sorrow, or regret, he wasn't quite sure himself.

Poppy's ears flicked as she listened to the old buck in return. She noted that he muttered under his breath some, she wondered what he was saying. Moving a little closer to Mudroot, Sitting upwards some, she gave a look around to see if there were others around. They seemed to be alone, she wondered where his warren was and why he looked so different from those she homed with.

"You live all alone out here? Away from the warren?" Poppy asked not quite catching what he said about the warren rabbits. "Life seemed easy in the hutch, it was warm and all. With other does and a couple bucks for company. Brothers, you see. Other bucks were brought in when Man wanted kittens, to sell. Never saw them again." She looked away, it wasn't she who had kittens before. But one of her sisters that too was sold to another Man warren.

"Do you have any family?"

At her questions and stories, Mudroot stopped, his head tilted. He eyed her and her reaction, the look in her eyes before letting out a sigh, mouth moving as if he were talking to himself but no sounds came out. He then took a deep breath. "Aye, I live here all by me self.... no others.... safer that way." he said, the last part coming out a bit more quiet than the rest. He then drew a paw over his nose, gently touching the scars to remind himself of their presence.

Shaking his head and those thoughts away, he turned his attention back on her. "Bet ye miss your sister... I am sorry. I hope these furless treat her well as you claim too.... I've heard tales not all are bad.. non wirell ones anywas." he mused to himself, hopping over to gently put a paw on her shoulder, giving her a soft pat. He then cast his gaze downward and swallowed a lump in his throat, shaking his head no. "Narn, no family to speak of. I do best alone..." he sighed. Though it was true in a sense, it was something he only told himself as an excuse to not try. He desired company more than he could explain but lacked the ability to work level headed with other rabbits, so he chose to live alone instead.
