"I still don't know why a dragon knows how to cook so well," Sosiqui said appreciatively. The mass dinner HAD been a good idea - it had been a while since Sosiqui had gotten out of the house. Riven had half-dragged her here, claiming she needed it for balance... and, well, it wasn't worth protesting.

Five sat next to Bronnie, eating his own pudding with more enthusiasm than Sosiqui had ever seen - and, of course, Riven was glued to Ghlyssa's side. "Should probably come over more often, what with these two. If Riven comes by too much more, you'll forget all about me and only remember him."

Riven caught Ghlyssa's look as Sosiqui went on. "Matching feathers, now." She pointed at the purple whispy feather in Glee's hair. "Cute."

"I'm sitting right here," Riven mumbled, turning red.

"You're still cute." Sosiqui ruffled his hair; Riven sidled away from her.

Riven took a deep breath. "Um, there's a reason for the feathers," he mumbled.

"We know," Sosiqui said, then made kissy-faces at Riven. Clearly the sugar was going right to her head.

Riven, however, looked startled. "You do? How do you know? We didn't tell you..."

"Oh, anybody could tell just by looking at you," Sosiqui said, smirking.

"Oh, good." Riven looked relieved. "I'm glad you don't mind about the marrying thing."

"Of c-"

Sosiqui's spoon splatted into her pudding dish, and she blinked at Riven. "The... the what?!"

"You're doing what? Did you think about it? What about Chaos? What about-" Sosiqui's explosion of words suddenly petered off as suddenly as it had begun, and she sat back in her chair with a thump.

"You're not mad, are you?" Riven asked, tentatively.

"No, no, I'm not mad at you. Mad at myself, maybe. A year isn't... well." She picked up her spoon and methodically wiped the splattered pudding off of the table with her napkin. "When did this happen?"

"Last week on the Valentine's day thing," Riven said. "She, um, said yes?" He looked at his Guardian hopefully. "And Silver said you have to ask for blessings or something. I'm not sure what that means."

Riven looked confused and bit his lip, while fumbling under the table to find and hold Ghlyssa's hand. But... "We know what we want, and this is it," he said, firmly. He sat up a bit straighter. "We want to become Ancients together, and this is supposed to be... well, a good thing, right? You're still our Guardians... we can't go too far away. We don't want to. I guess... I guess we're not asking if we can. We're saying we are, and... we really hope you like it." At the last, some of Riven's newfound authority slipped away, and he looked at both his own Guardian and Ghlyssa's with pleading in his eyes.

Riven grinned at Ghlyssa, then sobered and looked at Sosiqui. "Um?"

Sosiqui sighed, then smiled sheepishly. "You'll have to forgive me as well, Riven. Human babies are still... well, babies when they're 1 year old, and my mind is sort of geared to that... sometimes I forget that you are, well, what you are." She made a face. "Somehow I've normalized the utter lack of legs."

Riven didn't understand that last part, but he beamed. "Thank you. Will you help us?" He bit his lip again. "The other Fa'e we talked to, the other ones that have the marrying thing... Shina and Hoshi, Silver and Sati, Taka and Kia... they said it was like a symbol-thing. And there are lots of kinds of weddings and things. Too many kinds." By the look on Riven's face, it was obvious that he'd done some research and found too much conflicting information for his own taste.

"We can't make babies," Riven explained to Bronwen. "We have to become Ancients, and stay Fa'e. If we make babies, then we can't do that." Bubbles, though? He'd read about rice, and doves, and butterflies, and all this other stuff. Could you throw just ANYTHING at a wedding?

"They did say you traded rings," Riven said, finally. "We did feathers instead. They're better. A lot of the, er, I guess tradition-stuff doesn't make sense to us." He looked a bit flustered.

"Throw bubbles," Five put in, putting one finger in his water glass. A second later, the water bubbled and seethed.

"No spell-casting at the table," Sosiqui said, sharply.

"Magic," Five said shyly, tugging at the brim of his hat. "I can do some stuff."

"Not at the table," Sosiqui repeated, then turned back to Ghlyssa. "I can't stop you, and it certainly wouldn't help if I said no, would it? So it's fine by me." She glanced over at Sundragyn.
