The dark rabbit was getting sick and tired of this warren. His sister was still trapped in the isolation burrows and he felt physically ill without her. She was due with kittens and their mental connection was faltering. He had never been without her for this long. He had begun to bite patches out of his fur and spend the days laying on his back, feeling sorry for himself. They hadn't even done anything wrong. No-one had died, right? He rubbed his left paw with his right and sighed again, frost curling out of his mouth. He was so distracted he didn't even hear the other rabbits around him.

Pitchweed wasn't the only one who was sick and tired of this warren. Or rather, not so much the warren as rather the management of it. But then that wasn't really anything new for him, and not exactly secret either. The large Owsla Chief suddenly burst out from the main run and out into the open, his eyes almost immediately landing on the pathetic lump nearby. Wrinkling his nose, Cocklebur made his way over to Pitchweed with a huff an scrutinizing glare. "It's a wonder any rabbit would allow themselves to be reduced to such indignity. Look at yourself. What a mess. Whatever is wrong with you?" Hopefully the buck wasn't ill. If so, Cocklebur would have to dispose of him himself. After what happened the last time the warren encountered disease, he wasn't taking any chances.

Pitchweed's eyes sadly glanced up at the captain of owsla. Oh, how he did despise the owsla. But he didn't despise Cocklebur. Ironic, sort of. He wasn't like the others and actually had a lot of good ideas. Pitchweed had heard of his hatred for how things were run around here and he went back to looking at his paws.
"My mate's been taken away." Was all he said. "I've never been this long without her and they won't let me be with her, smell her, even see her. I'm not even allowed to send a message because of the rancid hraka owsla...no offense." He couldn't help it. Without his twin, he wasn't himself. She was his other half and without her he felt so drained. He didn't even feel like causing problems lately. "That crocus and badassi said I can't be with her for another three days. I can't take it any longer!" He threw a mini spasm then and there, rolling from side to side and moaning like a kitten who had eaten poison.

Cocklebur arched a brow at this and sat with a scowl. He was a bit disgusted by the fact that this buck couldn't live without a doe for such a short time. But he wasn't exactly familiar with this situation and it intrigued him.
"Oh? I wasn't aware of this. Tell me what has happened. Perhaps I can... help."
Cocklebur wasn't one for giving charity on a normal basis, but this might present an opportunity.

Pitchweed didn't exactly want to talk about it. He wanted to be left alone to wallow in self pity and hope a hawk may pick him off. However, Cocklebur might be able to scratch his back in exchange for the same.
"Maybe you can." He muttered, rolling onto his tummy and pouting at Cocklebur. "My sister-mate and I were minding our owns business on the down. There was a kitten and it was picked on by a hawk. And we got blamed for it." He gave the abbreviated version. "Those two vair-speaking piles of passed dog meat set us up. And now my sister is in isolation, ripe with kittens."
He became a blubbery mess again.

Cocklebur sat back on his haunches and put a paw to his chin as if in deep thought. Obviously there was more to the story than this buck was letting on, but that hardly mattered to the captain.
"Hm, clearly an injustice has been done here. I am appalled that my own Owsla would behave in such a manner."
He then sat tall, ears straight as a smirk twisted his maw slightly.
"I shall rectify this at once! Come with me and I'll have your mate released."
With that, Cocklebur got up and headed back for the burrows, expecting Pitchweed to follow.

Pitchweed's eyes widened and a small smile pulled to his maw. "You do not jest?!" He asked eagerly. "Oh happy day. Thank you, Cocklebur. You are most fit to be captain of owsla. And more, if you'd ask me. Thank you! Thank you!"
He eagerly followed the other, tail wiggling wildly behind him, chasing that promise. He'd see his mate again! His dear, beloved sister!! Oh, praise frith. Praise Cocklebur!
He hurried after him, his eyes full of hope.

"Of course. I'm a rabbit of my word."
This said with a smirk and a haughty swagger as he led Pitchweed through the burrow, basking in the flattery. His steps leading them both to the isolation burrows where this buck's doe was undoubtably being kept. Naturally there was bound to be a guard, but that was certainly something that Cocklebur could handle.

Watching over the doe was boring work, but Badassi was not one to shirk duties. He and Crocus had taken it upon themselves to hopefully teach the duo of miscreants a lesson for endangering the life of an outskirter, one who was lucky to be alive, but who would surely be crippled. Her marli had been rather broken hearted over the affair and the doe in question, a miss Wildwood, had confessed to refusing the poor outskirter sanctuary when a hawk was upon her.
The rather large, gray furred buck yawned and stretched, resting on his stomach as he blocked the isolation burrow's only exit with his bulky frame. He would be quite relieved when an owsla came to trade places with himself and he would be free to siflay, should he be able to scrape anything up. Times were lean, but he was certain he could still get some bark and there was some dried grasses tucked away in his own, warm burrow. Maybe he would invite Crocus to eat with him, later. For now, though, he had a task to do, albeit simple and far from glamorous. Fortunately, the doe had given up her caterwauling the day before. After sun up, she would be free to go out and about with her brother, who seemed to be suffering far more worse than she over the separation.

Pitchweed didn't know if he was being had or not. He stalked after Cocklebur, a look of absolute desperation in his eyes. He NEEDED to see her. He was going to die if he didn't see his beloved sister soon.
In spite of himself, he picked up the pace and arrived about a second before his new captain friend. He sat upright and scratched at his belly fur with a nervous twitch, but his expression was one of hatred. A short growl leaked from his throat. Had they been all alone, he'd have given Badassi more trouble, but he didn't speak to him at all.
"Wildwood." He said loudly. "My beloved. Fear not. I have come for you! "

Seeing Badassi on guard duty, Cocklebur barely repressed a sneer that threatened to creak up on his maw. He knew this Owsla, one loyal to the chief. Approaching, the captain then sat up on his hinds as he addressed the officer, motioning with his paw towards the isolation burrow behind Badassi.
"Let the doe out."
He ignored Pitchweed as he pinned for his sister... mate... whatever.

"Pitchweed?" The doe, who had been for the most part silent throughout the day, spoke up. There was a hopeful ring to her voice as she sat up and peered out from behind the buck's rump, her mismatched eyes flashing in the dim light. It was about time her brother did something other than whine about her being trapped. He went and got help... From the Captain? Her heart did a bit of a flutter and her familiar, cocky smirk quickly found it's way to her muzzle.
"You heard the Captain, move your rump." The tubby marli-to-be jeered.
"With all do respect, sir, she has one more turn of the sun in isolation - punishment to both of them for very poor behavior towards their fellow rabbits." Badassi sat up, saluting despite his opposition to the dark rabbit. He was obviously not thrilled at the news, but did his best to reign his temper. He did not know what Pitchweed was up to, but he was certain Cocklebur must know what sort of self serving and untrustworthy rabbits these were. In general, many others avoided them and for good reason, too.

Cocklebur's nose wrinkled slightly at Badassi's words, giving the officer a glare just sort of baring his teeth.
"If you really do respect me, you'll do as I say. Let the doe go, right now. Or do I need to have the both of you switch places?"
The captain's red eyes continue to bore down on the Owsla officer with an unrelenting ferocity that threatened to be unleashed should Badassi continue to disobey.

Badassi scowled, ears falling back as he stood down. Whether or not he disagreed did not matter - the Captain obviously had the authority to order him to do such a thing and there was little he could do about it. Little he could do about it at this exact moment, however. He didn't even need to file this incident away, it burned him so badly. When he knew Cocklebur's attention was elsewhere, he would pay a visit to Bracken-rah.
"As you say, sir." It took every ounce of control to keep from spitting out the words as he shifted his bulk, releasing the doe from captivity. She was obviously very happy about that. Haughtily, she stuck her white tipped nose in the air and pushed past him before he was completely out of the way, unafraid to throw her weight around now that she knew full well that the Captain was on her side.
"Frith bless you, Cocklebur-rah. A pity what terrible owsla, such as these two that unjustly shut me away, serve under you." She was quick to rejoin her brother. It stroked her ego a great deal to see what a mess he was without her.

Pitchweed was overjoyed the moment he heard his sister's voice. He bounded to her the moment Basassi moved his Fatassi. He touched noses with her and ran a tight circle around her chubby body, brushing his cheek against her whole body in a round. "Cocklebur-rah." He repeated softly. "You are wonderfully kind and good and noble." He beamed with joy and put his paws on his sister's back, rubbing his chin horizontally down her back. "My love...are you forever tharn? Did they do horrible things to you?"
