[Takes place before the battle between Mava'bunda and Pridelands]
There was a disturbance.
You could feel it on the air; through the rush of the wind. The atmosphere was electric as lions darted back and forth. And the growing sense of impending doom was almost suffocating, putting a strain on his lungs. Amari's hackles were bristling before he even knew exactly what was going on. And then, at last, after a bit of stalking back and forth he overheard a snippet of conversation between a pair of guards.
Hyenas.
The nervous guards, probably new to their rank, judging from their age, took off a moment later. So far no signals had been given. Perhaps in an attempt to stop mass panic? But, nevertheless, Amari felt the need to check on his mate. The need to warn her about the possible dangers. Surely the hyenas would not break so far into the territory, but if they did, he wanted her safe and protected. Surely the pride would not be so concerned about a rogue band of hyenas. They were always at odds and nothing had happened before. But...this felt different. It felt wrong. And before he even knew it, he was closing in on the den site, eyes darting from side to side in hopes to catch sight of a glimpse of gold.
"Maawio?"

She could feel it too.
She hadn't felt a disturbance in the Pridelands like this since her mother had died, and that had been personal. This, however, was on a much larger scale. It could be felt in the air. Her home had been a peaceful wonderful place, and her already anxious self was on edge thinking about it.
The golden lioness was pacing the den, her heart palpitating.
The pride had seen its fair share of heartache, royal and general. Mufasas brutal murder, stillborn cubs... Maawio had a feeling this was about to become something that affected everyone. Where were her children? They had grown old but she still worried about those that had stayed to live in their home land.
And Amari? She edged closer to the mouth of the den, and she caught a sight of a rust coloured figure, greyed from age. "A-amari!" She called out to him, not with her usual gentle voice, but something far more panicked.
It just didn't feel right.

"Maawio." Her name left him in a rush of air and he was quickly closing the gap between them, pressing the flat of his head against hers in greeting."Thank goodness I found you, love." He rumbled, keeping close to her, drawing strength from her presence. She was okay. She was safe. He could deal with whatever was to come so long as he knew that.
"Something isn't right. I heard whispers." He paused, glanced around as if fearful someone might overhear him - he didn't want to spread mass panic - and then leaned in close to her again. "I think it might be hyenas at the borders. I don't know what's incited them - if anything - but the guards are all worked up and there's a lot of movement." He took a short step back to better look at her, into her eyes - as blue as the day he had met her - and asked: "Have you seen any of the kids?"
They were hardly kids any more. Fully grown and many of them with children of their own...and some of their children even had offspring now, which was a slightly scary thought.
They were old. It had taken him time to realise it, but it was true.
