It was in passing Solia had met her. Another girl. Another trainee. What a joyous occasion! Clearly, this was to be a friendship in the making. Maybe. Maybe not. Solia frankly just wanted a chance to make friends. After all, she was no longer the odd girl out. Today after meeting the fellow trainee? Solia was grinning ear to ear. She’d just asked for a spar and the other girl had said yes so Solia gave her a time and date and now that day and time was here and they would par and get better and she was so excited.
So.
So.
EXCITED

Israfel was a little less than enthusiastic however, Solia having only recently recovered from her last spar. While she might think nothing of it, Israfel was very much aware of the fact that she wouldn’t pay attention as well as she should. Brown eyes looking off towards the ocean, silver and blue bow was in hand. Rented gloves on- she was ready as ever. At least provided she’d paid attention this time.

She was practically running, since she didn't want to be late. Spars were one of the few things that Armagnac actually liked. Sherry was loathe to admit it, but she kind of liked them, too. Even after the way her last one had ended. A hand unconsciously moved to her chest; the wound had healed but a scar remained. The match with Ofelia had taught her a lesson or two, and Sherry didn't plan on forgetting them anytime soon. After all, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. So, clearly, more spars were in order.

Which was why when a rather enthusiastic trainee asked her for a spar, Sherry more than happily agreed. The girl seemed nice, and the chance to improve was always more than welcome. Her feet slowed as she neared the grounds.

She scanned the area, and there was her new friend, waiting. "I hope I'm not late," Sherry said with a smile.

So uh, Sherry is officially an intermediate now~ shall I roll with those stats or would you prefer trainee?
Also. I'll be a bit slow today. Time zones + work. xD

At the arrival of the woman, Solia’s face lit up even more, (if that was even possible). “Nope! I’ve not been here that long myself so really, it’s no big deal. “ What did time matter anyway? She would end up keeping herself busy with her own thoughts, prying Israfel’s mind for seeds of information that he’d not thought to provide on his own. A small mental chuckle from him, Solia would still sense his apprehension for the coming fight.

Bow lifted up, Solia nodded. “I’m ready when you are! I need practice starting from close quarter combat.” And distance. And sniping with her bow. And everything. She was either going to get it or die trying. A thing both her and Israfel would want to avoid really.

Sherry smiled. "Well, I think I can help with that." The tell-tale glow of weapon summoning flashed for a moment before Sherry stood holding her glaive, ready for attack. Armagnac crooned in her head.

"I need more experience with distance users myself," she said nodding to the bow and taking an extra moment to study her opponent. New friend and a new challenge. Hopefully they would both walk away from this spar a bit stronger.

The hiss in her head was full of impatience.

Sherry gave a short nod, then rushed forward for her attack. The glaive came in from the side; more of a stab than a swing.

A glaive, Solia’s brown eyes widened at the sight of it. Okay, threat level assessed. Medium. She’d need to be cautious and not just… go running into things blindly. Israfel was trying to gauge how best to tackle dealing with Sherry and her weapon but Solia was already drawing the bow up. Attack traditionally it she could, use the bladed end as movements tightened.

The part was to keep moving he told her. Don’t stop unless she had to. Take shots as the rose, don’t force them. The first strike was made, and Solia winced, lashing back with a single arrow. The bane of close range was that it was an obvious path, but it also left less room to dodge depending on what was targeted and the field.

Things that sadly were not in Solia’s favor.

Sherry's first instinct in reaction to Solia's counter was to fall back. She generally had the reach advantage, seeing as most of her opponents to date focused on close combat. Stepping out of their reach and then swinging at them usually did the trick.

Armagnac hissed in her head.

It was too late. Sherry had already stepped back.

Distance given was distance taken as Sherry stepped back. Solia was getting better at moving and shooting, not to mention doing it in heels. But distance wouldn't matter if she couldn't keep it, or if she needed close combat focused training. So lingering a bit closer than safe, she took her shot.

Armagnac would scold her later, no matter how this turned out. Even if Solia seemed intent on staying in close, s far as the glaive was concerned, that should be Sherry's job.

She didn't want to be in too close, though. Her weapon was hard to maneuver after a certain point. There was a sweet spot, a mid-range where Sherry felt the most effective. As things were then, she found it easy to step into.

Armagnac was slightly disappointed with the weight behind the swing, but Sherry did her best to ignore the yelling.

The hit stung, Israfel giving her a warning to learn to roll out of the way. Warnings only did good when well, you had a way to act on them. And as the glaive got her, Solia lacked a way out. Hissing from the lingering sting she almost missed the fact that hey, letting go of your bow was a bad idea. Grip tightening, Solia moved in, strike out with the bladed end.

“You’re really good you know!” She smiled through the pain and Israfel’s chirping orders to go get away. “Like really good!”

The bladed end of the bow was dangerous. Sherry made note of it, that was for sure. Pretty handy, having a way to fight up close and at a distance. She'd have to remember to steer clear of that end of the bow in the future, if she could help it.

Sherry smiled at the compliment. "Thanks, but I'm not that good. I've just," she took a step back as she spoke, hoping to find a better position to attack from, "had a bit more time to practice is all."

Really, she wasn't that good. Her last spar had ended with her bleeding out all over Ofie and the floor. She wasn't going to tell Solia that, not right at that moment, though. Maybe after they were done.

She didn't mean to miss with her next swing. Not at all, she didn't want to maim the other girl, but she didn't want to miss, either.

Armagnac cursed her hunter.

Practice made perfect, and to Solia it showed. Even as Sherry missed her, the brunette was still impressed by her skill. Then again, she was the one running around with a long bow in heels like it was no big deal. Practice running around on stone and a variety of other surfaces helped in the whole fight to not break her ankles. “Don’t sell yourself short, you’re a lot better at this that I am.”

As she pulled back on the string Solia smiled. “Mostly I’m just lucky.” Which was rather truthful really. Her aim was still rather all over the place.

"Better than being unlucky," Sherry smiled at the trainee. The girl just needed a bit more practice, then she was likely to real danger. She seemed to already have a decent handle on her weapon and all.

"Practice and luck," she began, stepping forward. "Both useful tools for us. I think you've got a pretty good handle on things, really."

She aimed for Solia's thigh with the blunt end of her weapon. No need to try and cut all the time.

The blunt end of the weapon connected, leaving Solia with a rather nice facial expression between wincing and smiling. “I can use Isra okay but-“ She gave the bow a small wiggle in the air before swinging it out at Sherry. She was still going to try. “But I kind of stink with luck.” Israfel was quick to reminder of how lucky she had been on missions thus far. Very.

Still, she hardly felt that way. “Shouldn’t we ignore luck and look at only skill and experience? Luck is a subjective notion, an undeterminable variable. Relying on it to provide factual evidence seems a bit unreliable.”

"That is a very compelling argument," Sherry replied through a wince of her own. The girl could hit hard.

"Luck should be ignored most of the time," Sherry nodded and Armagnac rumbled an agreement in her head. "Not something one should expect to have when predicting the outcome of a battle. But expecting the unexpected should be something you are always willing to do."

"So yes," she conceded as she took another swing with the bladed end of her weapon, "luck should be ignored, but not forgotten. Those unreliable variables can kill, or save."

Sherry had a good point, (two actually, what with her weapon and all). Luck should not be relied upon, but it was a factor, and couldn’t be forgotten or utterly discounted. Still, Solia didn’t want to rely on luck. She wanted to be able to stand on her own two feet. Not that standing was getting to be an easy task with Sherry’s attacks. Solia was starting to feel her FEAR shield go, (or that was her own stamina? Israfel told her no, it was her, he still had a bit left to keep her safe).

“I still hope we get measured on skill, not lucky shots when it comes to our seniors evaluating us. I mean, being lucky… is being lucky. I just wanna rely on what I can do, not leave anything to chance.” Brown eyes were determined. “Variables, just too messy.” Bow lifted, she fired close range, note of music ringing out.
