Jake was currently having a stare-down with one of the training dummies until Chester interrupted him.
The death trainee frowned.
"Wondering what the hell it is I'm doing wrong."
"No. I meant in battles. I can barely get a good hit in. Even after all this training, I still can't do squat."
The weapon sighed.

Perhaps it was fortunate that Wilson happened to be passing by the fields when he overheard Jake’s inquiry. The hunter was idly walking backwards like he usually did when relaxed, but then he walked forward and looked over at the death trainee. “Are you having trouble in battle?” he called out while walking toward Jake. “If you want, we can have a spar and I’ll try to see what you’re doing wrong. Or maybe you just need more practice. It could be either. It could be both.” Wilson shrugged.

Talking out loud to Chester was a habit he REALLY needed to fix, though in this case, it seemed to yield some favourable results.
"No, I'm not having trouble," he growled, clearly miffed the hunter was eavesdropping on him (never mind the fact that pretty much anyone walking by could hear him), but his hands slowly went towards the keys clipped to his sash.
The weapons were summoned in an instant, and he smirked.
"But thanks for volunteering.

“Oh, okay.” Wilson smiled, unaffected by the other hunter’s apparently sour mood. “Well, it’s always good to practice some more.” Another as he reached for his own de-summoned weapon. “I’m always willing to help.”

His goggles swiftly turned into a mask and a pair of cannons. Wilson shrugged on the pack in one fluid movement. He adjusted his gasmask before he finally slipped on the cannons. “Hope you don’t mind if I take the first move.” The hunter didn’t know how skilled Jake was. For now, he would take a small swing at the trainee to gauge his abilities.

Wilson's inquiry didn't get a reply as Jake only stared at the weapons on his arm.
A... mask? Tank? Just... what the hell?
The guy looked more like a guy in charge of pest control than an actual hunter.
Was he going to gas him out or something?
The soft crackle of his fear shield being hit brought him back, and he blinked at the hunter.
"Yah, whatever."
He swung his tonfas towards him.
Hopefully puncturing those tank things wouldn't cause an explosion, or something.

The stare didn’t go unnoticed. “Something wrong?” He raised his arms to press against the tonfas. Metal clanged against metal and he slid back a few steps before Wilson lightly pushed Jake back. He cocked his head and felt the need to ask if those were tonfas, but seeing was believing. They were real enough.
Fortunately, there were no explosions, just a cloud of poisonous green after he pointed his cannon toward the green and released a shot. Wilson stepped back, letting the mist cloud the other’s vision.

Seeing the gas waft towards him, Jake's eyes widened slightly, and he lifted his arm, breathing through his sleeve.
Damn gas. It was just like the missions he went on.
He felt himself grow sluggish, but shook his head, and quickly drew back.
"The heck kind of weapons are those? A gas tank? Really?"
He coughed, steadying himself, and when the gas parted, rushed in for an attack.

Wilson could have raised an eyebrow at Jake, but it wasn’t like the death trainee would have seen it. “Does it look like I know the answer? I didn’t pick Gramps; Gramps picked me.” He shrugged before suddenly twisting his body to avoid the brunt of the attack. Without missing a beat, he smacked both of his cannons into Jake before releasing another cloud of poisonous gas.
He hadn’t realized he’d overdone it until it was too late. “Crap. Are you okay?”

Jake stared blankly back at Wilson's masked face.
"Your weapon's name... is Gramps?"
He only rolled his eyes.
Having forgotten to pull back after his last attack, he grunted as Wilson smacked him with the cannons, the FEAR shield absorbing most of the impact, but then the gas. HOLY CRAP there was so much gas.
He felt his eyes tearing up, and lifted up a sleeve to try and block out most of it.
"I'm going to have to learn how to deal with that damn thing." he choked out.

Wilson shook his head. “It’s Dabir, but he sounds like an elderly man so I call him Gramps.” The catoblepas wheezed angrily. [I still hate ya for that.]
Judging by the coughing fit the other trainee had fallen into, he opted to not add to the cloud and instead let it continue to linger and finish its job before beginning to dissipate. “A lot of people have told me that, actually,” he chuckled.

At this, Jake only laughed.
"Sounds like the annoying naggy type."
At this, his gaze fell on his tonfas.
As the cloud slowly dissipated, his coughing stopped, and he only gave a cold stare at the cannons.
"Those things better not have any side effects."
He held up his tonfas as the runes glowed brightly with FEAR.
Do you even have to ask?
The death trainee smirked as the runes seemed to glow brighter, then suddenly dimmed as the area around them grew slightly darker, wispy tendrils forming from the tonfas and snaking towards the death hunter.

“He is,” Wilson answered, chuckling. Gramps rasped out angrily. [Am not.]
The hunter shook his head. “Far as I can tell, the gas doesn’t. Anything you see during this battle is what I’ve observed ever since I woke up.” He turned silent as the area grew darker. Immediately, Wilson flicked his gaze toward the weapon. Hm.

Well, it was nice to know he wasn't the only one with a weapon that seemed to think that hunters didn't know how to take care of themselves.
Jake ignored him and took advantage of the illusion to draw close enough for an attack.

Finding momentum, he brought the blades down on the hunter's FEAR shield again as the illusion began to fade.
