But...what's a Morlock??
"In the future, some people went underground to escape the apocalypse. Slowly, they evolved into the Morlocks, creatures that live underground almost exclusively. They fed and clothed the Eloi, the people that survived on the surface, only to 'cull' them by eating them. Like sheep. In the original movie, they were way more intelligent than the Eloi and had created quite a few inventions like a bell to summon their food, moving door, etc..."

The Game:
This will be a writing/RP contest, in which you will be judged on two main factors: how interesting and creative your response is, and how well it brings the Morlocks and modifoxes together (but proper spelling and grammar never hurt, either :p )

The prompt is: how did the Morlocks come to modifoxes? You can also write about their new place as well, if you like.

Responses can be written pretty much any way you can think of: you can just give a quick summary, or tell a long detailed story, or write a RP response from the point of view of one of the Morlocks, etc.

Times:
Game starts NOW, and will run until 12 December at 11:59 PM EST.

Form:

Response:

Clanging and grinding under the ground could be heard throughout the cavern. Shuffling forward on hands and feet the Morlock felt its belly growl it was time for the harvest. Headed up to the surface with others they went to go and gather the flesh to devour. Eyes shifting about as soon as the cold outside air touched it loping forward with a growl it was best to get what they needed soon. Before some of the cattle had been taken and escaped. This made the Morlock feel uneasy every time it had gone out since then. There had been blazing painful light even though it wasn’t the time for it. The Morlock had been scared and it still caused it much pain.

Rubbing its arm it kept moving through the night to go and pick up more flesh. The night proceeded as needed and the other morlocks had gathered their meal and were taking it all back. Noise made the Morlock stop. Gesturing to the others most of the group went back but a few stayed. Grinding grounding the noise went on. The Morlock and the others who didn’t go back slinked toward the noise. Reaching it the Morlock gave a hiss. It was like the machine other flesh that escaped. Looking around for the flesh that escaped it saw no one. Straining for any sound only the strange machine’s noise could be heard. From the deepest parts of the shadows the Morlock emerged and the others followed it. Reaching the machine the Morlock slapped it once. The noise continued with no change to it, it also elicited no noise from the surrounding area. There didn’t seem to be any other’s nearby. The top was open like they had gotten it before the flesh escaped. Curious, to find the secret to the machine that allowed the other flesh to flee; the Morlock got into the machine as it had seen the other flesh do. The others tried to climb into the machine with the Morlock, it’s fellows climbed on it as well. Suddenly the machine started to flash bright lights and make other sounds. It hadn’t pressed anything by accident had it? Remembering the light in the middle of the night the Morlock curled with a snarl and clawed at what it was sitting on kicking its feet striking more of the machine. The others lost balance and fell on top the Morlock. The night swirled by and changed to the terrifying painful light of day. Screeching the Morlock and the others kicked out and attacked the machine. The night came back as did the day, faster and faster. The Morlock’s stomach heaved and while it had not eaten still clear fluid came up. The Machine was smoking and little shocks where coming from it. Yelping the whole world spun by too fast. Closing its eyes the Morlock held still unable to do anything. Light, dark, light, dark. Pain arched through the Morlock as the Machine shocked them all. Choking on the smoke the light finally stopped showing and the Morlock opened its eyes. It couldn’t see anything but that didn’t matter. There was none of the sinister light. Crawling out of the machine it kept smoking and grinding. Head spinning the Morlock collapsed after dragging itself a way away. Waking later it shook feeling strange. The machine must have done something while it was torturing them all. Slowly the darkness receded as its eyes adjusted. The machine stood in the shadows like an insult to all morlocks. Getting up on its hands and feet again it shuffled toward the machine. Dark and dead the Morlock investigated the area and after not feeling like it was moving right itself. Changed and different the Morlock felt unsettled. Nearby to bodies got up. Snarling at them it watched and recognized its comrades even if they were changed too. Snarling at them the Morlock was annoyed. To its horror flames appeared along where it had been scarred before. Flailing for a moment before it realized it wasn’t hurting the Morlock was stunned.

Later that night after adjusting to a change in movement styles the Morlock and the others were ready. They hungered and it was time to find some flesh…

Response: Long ago, there was a tribe.

Many, many years ago. When at that time is was almost questionable what tribes were, and instead the group viewed it as simply that. A group of foxes who happened to settle together. It wasn't a small group, it wasn't large, it wasn't famous, it wasn't invisibile. It was simply a group, nothing more, nothing less. Nothing made them special.

Until a cave in.

The "tribe" had been exploring the depths of a cave, when suddenly, the ceiling caved and a good portion of the "tribe" were trapped inside the cave. Horrified, the foxes able to escape did, and then returned the next day to try and dig the others out. Everyday, they'd come and try to remove large boulders and blocks, and each day they'd return home tired and weak.

This continued for years, even when the group became an official tribe and named themselves the Eloi. The tribe worked as if it was a tradition to free the foxes, even generations later. Eventually, it became just that, a tradition, for it came time when no one believed there was foxes stuck inside the cave. And then, one day, the boulders were removed enough for a fox to slip through.

Armed with a fire on a stick, the Elders daughter ran right into the cave despite the others frantic protests. She was gone for days, and just when a fox considered following she emerged, screaming about foxes with strange eyes and vicious fangs. She was terrified, and eventually described the foxes inside the cave as beasts with barely any intelligence who desired flesh. The cave became forbidden, stories spreading about cannibals and monsters who feared the light, but were dangerous at night.

What truly was behind the boulders?

Deep within the cave lived two casts, the Morlocks and the Ferals. Long ago, as the many many MANY years passed, many foxes died in the beginning. However, the ones who survived started to change to adapt to their home. As years and generations went on their eyes became sensitive to light. They could see perfectly at night or dark, but light hurt their eyes greatly. Their hair bleached, an effect of the lack of sunlight. Fangs grew, mouth widening into a grotesque reminder of what a smile once was. They were hideous, but they were not violent. They learned to live off bats and other small creatures, but food was always low.

And so, the Morlocks split. A separate branch developed, the Ferals. Looking identical, these were cannibals, eating their own kind. The Morlocks fought off the Ferals and sent them deeper into the caves, but they always battled. The elders daughter met a Feral when she visited, and this is why the outside world feared the Morlocks.

The Morlocks and Ferals share one belief. Never leave the cave. Even now that the boulders have been removed they refuse. Or so they thought. The younger generations are curious, and some are peeking out at night. Will the Morlocks spread into the world?
