It was dark. Xelloss led his future leader through black jungle. The unicorn moved with a surprising adeptness, considering he was blind, but still needed guidance from time to time. The jingling of the chimes on his tail gave their passage an odd musical sense. It was a beautiful sound for a horrid occasion. Some part of that struck Xelloss as strangely appropriate.
"This way, now." He gestured with a wing, though of course the priest could not see it. "We have arrived." He stepped forward and his hooves clicked against a cool stone surface, carved with runes. Two of the five mazoku lords stood there, waiting. It was time.

Xellas loomed massive against the starry night sky beyond. She stood to one side of the circle upon approximately her point of the compass. She had to admit, it was an inspiring location for a ritual. They stood upon a stone circle that was as wide as some of the smaller temples she had seen in the jungle. The circle appeared to have been carved all from one massive rock, though not even Xellas could imagine how such a thing could be possible. Carved into the circle were row upon row of ancient runes, their meanings lost to the ages.
The artifacts that Xelloss' acquaintances had laboriously collected lay covered beside Hellmaster. They would have their part to play soon. Now was the moment where their plan came to fruition. It was time to see whether their lord, Shabranigdu, could defeat even death itself.
She heard Xelloss and the Red Priest coming long before they appeared. When they finally stepped out onto the magic circle she gave a low growl in the back of her throat, a greeting of sorts. "You were wise to have come, Rezo." He was wise to have come willingly was the unspoken meaning. They could have dragged him there by force, but this way was simpler for all of them.

It was a strange place that the mysterious Xelloss had brought him to. Rezo didn't need to be able to see to tell that. It had been a long journey to the jungle and not without perils. If it hadn't been for Xelloss accompanying him, Rezo knew that he very well could have died. As it was, he had made it here without damage. Now was the moment he had been waiting for, the moment that he had been promised his eyes.
Rezo had no illusions about the soquili he dealt with. They were a pack of monsters and demons of the most loathsome and dangerous sort. He had nothing but contempt for them and their lifestyle... but that contempt didn't keep him from accepting their aide. There had always been the hint of what he might have to do to repay them for his eyes. Rezo didn't mind that assumption. That was fine. After all, if they could restore his sight... he would have no more need of them after that. They would find that he was not exactly helpless even when blind, and potentially all the more dangerous with vision. He would take what he needed from them and then they would let him leave, or have a battle if they refused.
"Thank you for inviting me," he said with a cool smile to his unseen hosts. "I naturally found your proposition very interesting. I am looking forward to... seeing the results."

Phibrizzo stood off to one side of the circle, he had no cardinal direction. His place had always been at the center of the other four lords. Tonight the center position would be going to their very special guest, the stallion that they believe to be the host of Lord Ruby-Eyes. His wings flickered, casting off a faint light, as he watched Xelloss lead the unicorn stallion to them. It seemed like a cruel joke to the Mazoku Lord. Their leader being sealed into such a pathetic creature, a healer. Still, to come willingly to them showed promise. Either the unicorn was simply insane or their lord knew precisely where he belonged. With them. Guiding them. Taking them down the path that would lead to the most beautiful destruction of the world. It was what every mazoku longed for.
"As are we." He replied. "Xelloss, take our guest to the center." He ordered turning away from Xellas's servant to uncover the artifacts. He was getting impatient for this. There had been enough preparation, now he wanted to see the end result. He didn't even want to play around this time. If he could have Phibrizzo would have simply smashed all of the artifacts then and there, unfortunately that wouldn't accomplish anything but creating a pile of broken pieces. Everything had to be done properly or it wouldn't work or so his little angeni birdy had told him through the screams.
Carefully he separated out the four directional artifacts and nudged two towards Xellas. "To the south and the west." He said before picking up one of his own two. These were to go to the east and to the north.

Xelloss nodded respectfully towards the Hellmaster. "This way, please." He was less cheeky than usual, but still hung onto that last shred. As he guided Rezo forward he could feel hairs all along his back begin to rise. There was a great power in this place. He could feel it in all of his body and spirit.
Rezo followed. He was surrounded by such darkness, the darkness that had always smothered him in his life. Even if he had to buy his sight from demons, even if his own soul was the price they demanded, was it not worth it? He had tried so many rituals. He had used every herb and medicine known by every healer in the Kawani lands and beyond. He had been touched by an ancient angeni and even by a unicorn elder. None of them could restore his sight. His spirit wept for a release from the darkness that bound him. Could this be the night when he would finally see?
He stopped instinctively exactly where he was supposed to be, the center of the circle. "Tell me what I need to do," he grated, harsh in his urgency.

Xellas didn't answer their guest. Hellmaster had begun to orchestrate their little show. She decided to wait and see if he would continue. It was his right to, as the most powerful surviving servant of Ruby Eyes. She picked up the first of her artifacts and delivered it to its location. "Xelloss, get the other one." She flicked her tail at the final artifact and stood over her own.
Looking down at the item, it hardly seemed worth the effort it took to gain it. It looked arcane enough but did not have the feel of something magical. If it wasn't so clearly what they had been searching for she would have wondered if Xelloss had found the correct object. Across the circle, Xelloss picked up his own piece and took his place with it.
Even though they were in the sticky heat of the jungle, a chill breeze began to blow. Xellas smirked. Someone was taking notice of their little ceremony, it seemed.

Phibrizzo set down his first artifact and then made his way back to collect the other. He snaked his tail around the second and picked it up. As he made his way to the northern position he answered the unicorn, "All you need to is listen carefully and let everything work." He set the second artifact down and gave Rezo a sharp look. It didn't matter that it wouldn't be seen. "Don't fight it. Believe me, you won't like it if you do."
At that point he checked on Xellas and Xelloss's progress and determined that they were ready to begin. It would be more effective if all the lords had gathered but they had to make do with what they had. "Xellas, prepare yourself, it is time." He positioned himself better, took in a breath, and then began chanting knowing that Xellas would join him. "Darkness beyond twilight, crimson beyond blood that flows, buried in the stream of time is where your power grows." As he chanted her smashed the first artifact into tiny pieces. After he finished with the first he moved on to his second in the eastern marker all while chanting. "I pledge myself to conquer all the foes who stand..." He finished smashing the second and looked to Xellas to let her know it was her turn.

Xellas picked up seamlessly where Phibrizzo left off. There was no greater definition of a mazoku than those words. They were all darker beyond twilight, more bloody than what most soquili had running through their veins.
A wolf howled in the jungle behind them as her chant reached its peak. It was probably just Brid, but it only added to the frightening ethereal aspect of what they did. At the end of her verse she gripped the artifact firmly in her teeth, raised it to the greatest height she could achieve, and then smashed it to the ground. It shattered into fragments, nothing but a broken piece of trash now. It didn't seem to hold anything in the way of power, and yet the wind blew a little harder...
It was time for Xelloss to do his part now.

Rezo's cloak whipped around him in the wind. He turned to face into it, making a striking silhouette in the dim light. The chanting was familiar to him, yet almost as if they were speaking in another language. He heard what they were saying but his mind didn't want to understand it. He had never felt anything like that before in his life. It was like... he didn't want to know what they were saying.
Xelloss' familiar nasal voice took up the chant next. Let the fools who stand before us... Had that been Xelloss' voice? Or... had it been his own? Rezo staggered forward a step before regaining his balance. Of all the things he expected to feel in this ceremony, he hadn't expected to feel so angry...

Phibrizzo moved back to the remaining three artifacts as Xellas and Xelloss took care of the south and west. The wind was beginning to whip more violently around them taking shimmering bits of his wings off into the shadows where they vanished. It was working, Phibrizzo knew it was working. He could see the effect it was having on their lord, he was starting to wake up.
Once Xelloss smashed the last of the directional artifacts he beckoned Xellas to join him for the final three. The three that represented their lord himself. Phibrizzo took the first artifact and began the chant again. It had to be said once each for these final three, and then... Phibrizzo grinned as though he had completely lost his mind. And then their lord would awaken and the world would be destroyed! "Let the fools who stand before us be destroyed!" He was laughing hysterically as he spoke the final phrase and observed the dust that was the first of the three remainders.
He calmed himself long enough to nod for Xellas to do the second. They would smash the third together, there was no way Xelloss would be allowed that honor.

"BE DESTROYED!" Xellas bellowed, smashing her artifact to a powder. The moment of realization was upon them. Every sense of hers was on high alert. While Phibrizzo looked more and more insane as the ceremony progressed, she became more feral. Her lips were drawn back enough to show gums and there was nothing equine in the set of teeth that filled that mouth. She growled like a rabid wolf and rejoiced in the feeling of her own blood surging through her.
This was it. Lord Ruby Eye was coming. She had no source of that certainty but could feel it. Their lord, their master... he was coming! Her excitement grew to a frenzied pitch as they prepared to smash the final artifact.

Xelloss' part was over. He stood back on the fringes now, hair thrashing in the rising gale. His eyes were wide open in a fixated stare at the unicorn in the center of the tumult. Years of work had gone into this one moment. He had slogged his way for weeks along the ground with both the Underground and with Rezo for the sake of bringing it all together. Would it be enough?
Yes. He believed it would.

Rezo was openly panting now. He felt a mix of emotions too many and too strong to name. Was it revulsion? Fear? Hatred? He was suddenly felt the sensation of blood in his mouth, a relic from an ancient memory. When had that happened? Sticky blood in his mouth, heavy meat sliding down his throat into his belly... He almost gagged at the thought of it. Was that him he remembered? Or someone else? His entire body went rigid and a tremor ran through him. His eyes, shut for so long, began to stir.
One slit open. From beneath his thick lashes came a glittering of red, a demonic glow. A sudden vision of light exploded into his brain. Throughout the horror and loathing he felt something else... elation.

The priests eyes were opening, it was working. Their lord was awakening! They would end the world together! All they had to do was finish the ceremony. Phibrizzo could barely contain myself as he started on the third one at Xellas's side. A distant rumble of thunder only added to his excitement as he recited the entire incantation one final time. "Darkness beyond twilight, crimson beyond blood that flows, buried in the stream of time is where your power grows. I pledge myself to conquer all the foes who stand before the mighty gift bestowed in my unworthy hand. Let the fools who stand before me be destroyed!"
