She'd been a bit happy all day at work, beaming at her customers and hugging the regulars who came and chatted with her that day. A ridiculously large and goofy smile was plastered on her face as she made drinks, called out orders, and cleaned spills.
Overall, Gene was a bag of joy the entire day. Once off shift, she instantly headed to the fabric supply store to secure a bunch of green and red spools of yarn. She was going to make scarves. She didn't know how, but the interwebs would tell her - that's what GooTube was for.
Once all her materials we secured, she made her way out of the Maul, floating a little so to avoid wet feet, and pulled her scarf a little tighter around her neck; pouting a little at how cold it was. Oh well, it just meant even more scarves, right?! Right!
Spotting a certain Baku in her own cold weather attire, Gene came up behind her and linked her arm into hers, smiling at Xiu. "Hi hon!"

It was cold. Far, far too cold for the little baku, who decided that day that she would have to brave the snow and the chill if she wanted to go grocery shopping by the maul. She had bundled herself up in the thickest jacket that she could find, donning a pair of earmuffs and a long, thick scarf before she even dared to make her way down the stairs and out of the demon dorms.
She had rushed--and slipped--her way to the grocery store, spending a good hour or so in the warm and toasty building before deciding that it was about time for her to get back. With a big plastic bag dangling from one hand, grudgingly stepped back out into the cold, having taken only a few steps when she suddenly felt someone slip their arms around hers. At first, she jumped in surprise, and then her shoulders relaxed as a smile spread over her face.
"Gene, hello! Why are you out here on such a chilly day?"

"Oh, I was working at the Maul today, and decided to pick up some yarn for scarves." She said sweetly, holding up the bag full of bright green and red fabric. "What were you doing out, hon? Aren't you chilly?" She fussed a little, even though the other ghoul was in a higher class than her. She was just so little - the cold must get to her easily.
It was decided - Gene was making Xiu a scarf. She smiled at the thought, stopping her floating so she could walk with the other ghoul. "What do you like more, Xiu? Thick stripes? Thin stripes? Red or green? Both?" She was prattling now, completely lost in the thought of making the Baku a scarf.
Everyone needed a homemade scarf for the 12th October, after all.

Ooh, scarves! The baku glanced at the bag when Gene lifted it up to show her, her gaze flickering back to the ghost ghoul at her question. Lookking a little sheepish, she nodded and moved to lift up her own bag. "I am cold, but...grocery shopping. I was running out of things to cook and bake with, so..."
She lowered the bag and shivered as a breeze brushed past. Ears drooping, she reached up to pull her scarf up higher over her pink face. What she wouldn't do to be inside right now, with a nice cup of tea and--...oh? Xiu cocked her head to the side at the sudden barrage of questions, her tail swishing back and forth behind her. "I-I, um...what? W-well, I do like red, and...stripes? Thick stripes over thin...I suppose?"
...But wait a minute, what was all of this for?

Ooooooh, baking? BAKING AND SCARVES? Best. Idea. Ever. Gene's eyes went wide as she took mental notes of Xiu's preferences, and she increased her pace to a brisk walk. They were gonna do awesome stuff today, yes sir.
"Oooh, we should bake today! If, you know, you're not too busy!" She suggested happily. If she had a tail - rather if she decided to have a tail - it would be wagging a thousand times a second at the moment.
Plus, they needed to talk about things. Job things.
Mostly they just needed to bake though. And knit.

Xiu's eyes immediately brightened up when Gene suggested that they bake today. The baku was always up for baking, but especially so when it was with a friend. Not only that, but her possible future business partner too! They definitely still needed to talk about that!
She was so excited.
Since Gene didn't (currently) have a tail, Xiu's tail did all the wagging for her. Yay baking! Yay going inside to a warm, toasty room!

Noting the Baku's happiness - good Jack, look at that tail go - Gene smiled as they approached the school gates. Oh yes, baking and knitting and talking and fun. Lots and lots of fun.
Walking right for the Demon dorms, the ghoul opened the massive doors to let Xiu in, and let her take the lead. She'd never been in the Demon dorm building before, and she just sort of gawked. The Ghost dorms were nothing compared to this...
"You...live here? Came from her mouth before she could even do anything about it. Just...damn.

Gene's surprised reaction earned a curious blink from Xiu. Cocking her head to the side, she turned to face the ghost ghoul more fully, her expression puzzled. "I--yes. Is something wrong?" She tore her gaze away from the ghoul to eye their surroundings again, and then it finally hit her. Laughing sheepishly, she lifted a hand and rubbed the back of her neck.
"Oh--the extravagance of the dorm?" She asked, finally catching on, "I guess I've gotten used to it, living here for a year and a half...but it really is a little too much for me too."
She slowly began to make her way towards the stairs, motioning to indicate that Gene should follow. It didn't take long until they reached her room, and after rummaging for a while for her key, she pushed open the door and leaned in to switch on the lights.
"Please, come in!"

Eyeing the grand living area even more as she walked up the stairs, Gene could only admire. Wow - what a way to live. She had to wonder if there were any handmaids and menservants in the building as well.
Shaking her head to focus, Gene made her way into the Baku's dorm - which was surprisingly cozy when contrasted with what she's just walked into. She liked the feel of it though!
"Oh, how nice~" She said looking around the room. Very exotic - maybe they could incorporate some of those elements into the cafe?

Shutting the door behind her, the ghoul grinned sheepishly at the compliment, rubbing the back of her head. "Thank you! Um, please make yourself at home! I'll just set up the kitchen, and--"
She was suddenly interrupted by a small, furry thing launching itself at her feet. The Dream Blossom purred loudly as it wound around its owner's legs, and shortly after her appearance, Xiu's Nightmare Flower and Storm Melonkit trotted out from the shadows to greet the two ghouls as well. Reaching down, the baku picked up her Dream Blossom--Shu--and offered Gene a little grin.
"Sorry about that. Have you met my minis? This is Shu," She lifted the white and light pink creature, who flicked her tail feathers at the ghost ghoul, "And that's Jian and Arashi."
Setting her mini down, she shrugged off her jacket and her scarf, sighing at relief at the warmth of her own room. Turning back to Gene, she smiled. "If you want to take off your coat, I'll go hang it in the closet for you. Do you want some tea, or should we get right down to work?"

Giving out a little squeak of delight, Gene went wide eyed at the minipets. Oh Jack, they were adorable. She gave little waves to the three of them, smiling as she thought about her own minis. Gideon and the twins were probably dozing right around now, not too worried about their 'mama.'
"Ah, that'd be nice." The Doppelganger said, smiling as she shrugged off her own coat and scarf and handing them to Xiu, since she offered.
"Oh, I think tea would be grand. What kind of leaves do you have?" She perked up, smiling. Frost had taught her a little about teas and such. So far, she really liked the hibiscus blends.

Xiu moved to hang Gene's coat and scarf up in the closet for her, and when she came back, she smiled a little sheepishly at the ghoul's question. Ah ha...what kind of leaves, huh? "Well, um..." Gesturing for her to follow, she walked back into the kitchen, waiting until the ghoul was directly beside her before reaching up and pulling open a pair of cabinet doors.
Inside sat...well, a lot of tea. Or rather, a ton of dried ingredients that Xiu used to make her tea brews. Dried flowers, herbs, berries--she had a vast collection of various ingredients, each sorted neatly in a small, carefully sealed jar and labeled. Clearing her throat, the baku shrugged.
"I guess it's less of what do I have, and more of what do you like?"

Following the Baku, Gene's jaws simply dropped at the sight before her. Sweet mother of Jack and Sally, that was a lot of tea ingredients. She took in the smell, eyes opening a little wider. She had a whole apothecary in her room!
"Ah...hibiscus? And whatever you think would complement it." She was at a loss. Coffee she knew like the back of her hand - wolf, dragon, living armor, or otherwise - but with tea? She just knew it was tasty and nice to have on occasion.
She had a cabinet like Xiu's, though it was for coffee. Sealed jars of not only green coffee for roasting, but also elements. Berries, spices, even a few types of liquor. Then, of course, she had her stovetop roaster, her glaze painter, and about five different types of brewing the grounds.
Their cafe would be amazing.

"Yes, miss!" She chirped cheerfully, her mind clearly also on the cafe as she flashed Gene a grin and got to work. She moved with quickly and smoothly, setting a kettle on the stove and filling a teapot with hot water to warm it. After a brief, thoughtful glance at the jars in the cabinet--she pulled out the ones that she knew would work best with the hibiscus' flavour. "For a while, I grew my own flowers and herbs," Xiu said, deciding to make conversation while she worked, "But I had a garden at home. It's much harder to try growing them in little pots here in my dorm, so..." She trailed off with a little sigh. After some careful measuring and mixing, the kettle on the stove began to squeal to indicate that the water was done boiling.
She moved quickly. The water was emptied from the teapot, her tea leaves were added to the pot, and then the boiling water was poured in. A quick glance at the clock, and then she let it sit to steep for a few minutes. Turning back to Gene, she offered the ghoul a grin. "So, did you have any idea what kind of things you wanted to bake today? Cupcakes, spookies, pies or mini pies...I'm sure I have enough ingredients to make most things!"
Pulling out two teacups, she filled them with extra water from the kettle first to let them grow warm before pouring it out and replacing it with tea. She lifted one of the cups and held it out to the other ghoul. "Careful, it's hot."

Taking the teacup with a gratitude endowed smile, Gene took a tiny sip, allowing the aroma to fill her nose and the tea to hit all of her palette like Frost had taught her. Mmm, delicious. "Mmmm...this is wonderful. Thank you." She set the cup down on the table, taking a seat on her couch.
"You had a garden at home? Where did you live before Amity?" She questioned curiously, sipping at her tea again. Getting to know Xiu was a good idea business wise, but also just because the ghoul was sweeter than cherry pie - oh, cherry pie.
"Oooh, cherry pie would be good. But I don't think they're in season right now? I've had a hard time getting cherries for a new brew, I'll probably have to wait until around the sixth October to start getting fresh ones." A pause as she thought, twirling her hair a bit. Oh, yes.
"Mini apple pies?"
