With her artifact finally reshaped and reformed, the only thing Ami could think to do was work with it. The orb was a great comfort to her at night, a sort of night light among the darkness of her room, but that didn't help much on the battlefield. After all, the battlefield was no place for soft lullabies and sleep.
So she was practicing on the training grounds, in an area where she thought nobody was. Sometimes the orb worked nearly instantly- almost too well with her. Other times, it wouldn't respond to her call at all, sitting there like a lump of metal that left her groaning at the idea of using it further.
Today was one of those days. "Stupid thing," Ami muttered, "I should have melted you down into a fashionable pendant. Then at least you would have some use." She scowled at it like her feminine fury would actually do something.
As if responding to her unkind words, the orb immediately flung her into the air, leaving her dangling in the air, only to float down slowly and hit the ground. "NOW you work?"
Of course, Ami thought she was completely alone here at the training grounds. What she hadn't learned yet was that everyone within a radius of her "practice" was effected.
Everyone.

There was always someone at the training grounds, though, wasn't there? Sometimes it seemed to Sherry that she never left them. It was of the few places that Armagnac seemed to approve of. Not that the weapon approved of much at all. Ever. Sherry rolled her eyes. We already know it repairs the fear shield. Any small bit helps, you know. I think I'm quite satisfied with it. Her thoughts were slow, as she was trying to focus on her preworkout stretches. I would have thought you the type to approve of wine.
"I don't see why not," Sherry whispered, changing positions in her warm up. "It's not like I get drunk off of--" Her feet were no longer on the ground.
She might have let out a surprised scream.
Her first thought had been that she was under attack. By the time it dawned on her that she hadn't been flung against a wall, but rather straight up, she was already headed back down. Rather slowly.
"Holy hell!" The second her feet hit the ground again she tried to run. Clearly, she'd been standing in a bad spot of something.
It didn't work out like she'd planned. "What on earth is going on?" Something was clearly not right with the world.

Ami smile was wide as she continued to float through the air. She was doing it! It was like something out of her utmost favorite Disney movie, Peter Pan. A light chuckle came to her as she imagined the orb being some sort of container for fairy dust.
A shriek alerted her that she wasn't completely alone. Her concentration lost, the effects of the orb immediately stopped, sending her floating back down to Earth rather quickly. The runes stopped glowing and Ami gave a little "humph!" of annoyance. What a useless artifact she'd gotten. It was so finnicky, like it had an attitude of its own.
Once on the ground she ran over to the source of the voice and found a trainee. "Ah, sorry. Was that you?"

Sherry had never been overly strong in the physics department. However. She was pretty sure something had been off a second ago. Gravity seemed to have taken a break or something. Slightly shaken, the lifer was seated on the ground glancing warily from side to side. The arrival of someone knew did not go unnoticed. Nor did the fact that gravity seemed to be normal again. "Yeah," Sherry swallowed, slowly climbing to her feet. "That was me. Did you uh...notice anything odd a moment ago? Like...floating or something happening?" It almost sounded odd to ask. Almost. With all she'd seen, it really shouldn't be that odd. Really, though. She should be able to count on the basic forces of the earth working properly, shouldn't she?

Oh no so she had been the cause. Floating definitely sounded like her whimsical little ball of lava, alright.
"Ah yes, I have to apologize," she said quickly, not wanting to beat around the bush. "The floating was my fault." She blushed a tad too fiercely for the occasion, mostly embarrassed that she was having to explain this at all.
"I only recently acquired a somewhat powerful item and it's a little ... finnicky. I'm still working it out, I suppose you could say." She looked down bashfully and held out the gyroscope pendant, she'd fashioned for herself. "I don't think it ... 'likes' this form if you will. I'm terribly sorry- I didn't think anyone was around..."

Her fault? How on earth could it be...oh! Sure, Sherry had questions about the explanation, but it more or less covered things. Strange item with strange powers? Totally acceptable and a understandable. "Oh! It's ok. Just, caught me off guard, that's all. No harm done," she smiled. She leaned in to have a closer look at the pendant. "Interesting little thing. So, it makes people float?" The answer might have been obvious, but she wanted to double check.

"Hmm ... I suppose that would be how I'd put it. To me, its more like slow bouncing, followed by a lazy drift to Earth." She smiled, hands gripping a little more tightly on her artifact now. She was oddly proud of the thing.
With a sigh, she admitted, "With all the work we went through to get it, I'll make it respond to me."
She shook it a little, but there was no response. With a grumpy look, she put it back in her pocket, clearly done using it for the day. "Truly I'm sorry though. I try to practice out here when there's no one around- I guess I didn't see you."

Sherry looked thoughtful for a moment. "Yeah, I guess that's what happened." More of slow fall, less floaty. Yep. She had come back down, after all. She stared at the item while the other girl continued. It reminded her of her own artifact, which was currently residing just off her hip in it's pouch. Her eyes following as the object was safely tucked away. "It's ok, really!" Sherry had been doing her best to stay out the way, so it wasn't all that odd that she hadn't been noticed. "I'm, uh, sorry for freaking out a little." Curiosity began eating away at Sherry, and a question sprang to her mind, so she asked it. "Where did you get that little thing?" She gestured slightly towards the pocket it had been tucked into. "If you don't mind me asking, that is."

"Ah," Ami said, thinking back to the stone room where she'd found the orb sitting. It had been quite the endeavor, with all the research and endurance. Not to mention all the times they'd had to retreat and revisit. No, her orb had been no easy prize.
"It may sound sort of silly, but ... have you ever heard of the titan's prison? The titans were sort of like ... super-gods. Zeus locked them up after the battle between titans and gods." She rolled her hand, not wanting to dwell on the details for long. "We ... A few hunters and I found the location and ventured through a labyrinth- sort of like Daedalus', if you've ever heard that legend."
She smiled and said, "There were quite a few of these artifacts in the labyrinth, but my team was only able to recover two."

"Hm." The look on Sherry's face made it clear she was thinking. "I don't know if I've heard of that place, but maybe..." Talk of Gods was certainly familiar. She was thinking about all the books she'd combed through in the library. Had any of them mentioned a labyrinth? "Yeah, I can't say for sure I've heard of it." Sherry shifted slightly, "But it sounds similar to a mountain another hunter and I found. It involved the gods, too." The similarity did not get past Sherry, though plain gods sounded far less threatening than 'super-gods'. "We just had to climb a mountain, and get past some lava pits, but it had some strange artifacts, too." She reached into the pouch on he belt and pulled out a small hip flask. It was a dark steel-blue, and covered in runic markings. "I grabbed this thing. Well, it was a glass vial when I found it, but..." She shrugged.

Ami tilted her head at the mention of another artifact, found in a completely different place. That was interesting. Ami found a great deal of potential in these small objects. Learning had always been an interest of hers, after all.
"Really? It looks like a souped up alcohol container," she said, light chuckle peppering her voice. "Does it ... do anything?"

Sherry gave a small laugh. "That's pretty much what it is," she grinned and unscrewed the cap. The opening was small, but Sherry angled so that the other girl would be able to see the faint blue glow of the liquid inside. "It's wine, or something similar." It had looked like red wine until the techs got a hold of it. It still tasted like wine, despite the color change. "And it never runs out. Like the container makes it, or something." Sherry gave light shrug. "I think it helps to replenish Fear, almost like a bandage does. I...haven't tested it thoroughly, though." Sherry looked back up. "Not nearly as cool as your new toy, though." That thing made people float.

Ami looked at the strange liquid with an arched eyebrow. That didn't look particularly safe. It reminded her of the nuclear waste they showed on cartoons that made quirky teens gain mutations and superpowers.
"Err ... is it ... safe?" she questioned, not bothering to touch it. "I suppose the healing is nice, but has it been tested for alternative side effects?"

Sherry shrugged. "I think it's safe. Near as I can tell, anyway." She tilted it back towards herself and looked at it suspiciously. "The techs did give it to me with no warnings, though that doesn't mean much. But so far the worst side effect I've found is...Well, it's definitely alcoholic." She shrugged again. "So if a hangover counts as a side effect, then yeah, that one is pretty bad." She looked back up. "Does your pendant have any bad side effects?"

Ami cringed a little at it actually being alcoholic. She'd had her share of alcohol stories, they weren't pretty. It was good to hear that there were no mutations required, but needing to get drunk to use your ability was bothersome.
"Ah ... no. That's most likely because I was the one who runic'd it. Can't have many problems when you're overseeing it yourself, you know?" Ami gave a smile. No, she'd definitely seen to it that there were no errors.
She shrugged and added, "The only problem is getting it to work. I think it has a cap on its power."
A roll her hands and she said, "I think your ... artifact is interesting. Is there any chance you could come by the life labs for me to document it?"
