The other side of the portal was vast and empty. Stretching to the sky above them was a mountain of stone. Behind them, even less. It seemed the portal had dumped them out somewhere on the side of the great mountain leading to the alter of the old gods.

"... You know I'm not fond of heights." The undead ghoul remarked, "The last time I was this high up was the horsemen trials. I fell off a tree log and uh... splat." She shook her head. "Hopefully that doesn't happen again." She inspected the wall looking up with a sigh. "The stuff I read said we go up. Alters at the top so... best we start climbing right?" Reaching into her bag she tugged out a pair of rough leather gloves offering them to Siddie.

Altar of the Old Gods: Quest

Altar of the Old Gods:

Requirements: You will need to PRP "researching" up this area (again a prp with your characters just discovering this information in a book is fine), before heading off on this quest. One person will need to be the dungeon master of this quest line: you can have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 characters in this quest. Due to not taking forever, the "Dungeon Master" has control of the pacing: even if not everyone replies, it is okay to go the next round as long as it makes sense from the Dungeon Master's POV.

Historical IC background: The Altar of the old Gods, also known as the Parthenon in history was once where mortals went to worship the Old Gods, also known as the time before Halloween was fully created. The Old Gods left many items after they vanished, including hundreds of artifacts. Most of these they blessed to mortals, but several of them they kept hidden.

The Altar of the Old Gods is now abandoned: only the hardiest dare take the trek. It is located in a niche between the Human World and Halloween, portals randomly spawn to the area but they are very much by chance. The highest chance of portals spawning to that exact location is by parking yourself in the Weeping Forest.

gaia_crown [ Getting Started: ]

Getting into the Altar of the Old Gods:
- You need to camp out in the Weeping Forest after reading the information. Hunters can enter Halloween as well without a golem (recommended as the Altar itself is very golem unfriendly due to its climate and high altitude as well as natural enemies), for a max of 30 minutes. Each roll takes 5 IC minutes - students can pretty much park here as long as they need as well as horsemen while Hunters will need to exit and enter back again.
- Basically, all Hunter characters have 6 chances to find the portal. If they don't find it, they will need to leave and come back. Students and Horsemen do not need to ICly leave and come back.
- All players roll 1d100.
- Rolling 50 or less will let players find a portal that randomly leads to someone's house. Feel free to RP this as you please as awkwardly as you please
- Rolling 70 or less will let players find a portal that leads to the Land of Holidays. Right now is really not the time for Xmas cheer...and the creatures there seem extremely hostile
- Rolling 80 or less will lead you to the Haunted House.
- Rolling 81 or higher will let you find the portal! Success! You can now proceed inside.

gaia_crown [ Setting and Rules: ]

The altar itself is on top of an extremely, extremely high mountain that needs to be scaled. This is where the Dungeon Master comes to play. The Dungeon Master will create a new thread. Now, they will roll stats for this expedition team:
- Roll 2 20-sided dice for each player. List the players ie: 1. Player 1, 2: player 2, etc. Just roll all the dice at once. This is the number of rounds they can take for each player. Also include your own character. Post this stat at the very first post ie: Player 1 has 5 stamina, player 2 has 10 etc.
- Now players can begin to RP. They start at the base of the mountain and must move upwards. Each ACTION they take is 1 stamina point. Once they have used up all allotted stamina points they can go no further/ have to leave the area.
- If their HP turns to 0 they cannot go any further as well.
- If a character runs out of stamina or HP, they must try again from Round 1!

gaia_crown [ Round 1: ]

- All players must roll a 6 sided dice. If any player rolls a 1 or 6, you have triggered a boss! The DM will be in charge of rping and keeping track of the boss's HP. The boss has 50/ 50 HP and does 5 auto damage every time it is attacked. You can attack it unlimited times within discretion. Attacks go as normal. The boss is shadow shaped, a remnant of the old world, noone can go any further until the boss is defeated. IF NOONE rolls a 1 or 6, or you have defeated the boss, you may proceed to round 2. If two players roll a 1 or 6, you now have two bosses... congratulations.
- This initial roll does not cost stamina!

gaia_crown [ Round 2: ]

- All players must now scale the hill. Roll 1d100.
- If you roll 85 or higher you have made it to the top! You're kind of amazing you know
- If you did NOT roll 85 or higher you still need to keep on climbing. Keep on climbing... away..... You need to continue rolling until you roll 85 or higher.
- For ever time you do not roll 85 or higher (each reroll), you must subtract one of your given stamina points. If you hit 0, you cannot go any further/ you dissipate/ pass out/ are worn out.
- If you hit 0 HP, you must start again from Round 1!
- If you made it past this round, you can proceed to round 3:

gaia_crown [ Round 3: ]

- You must now make it past the molten lava pits. This area is HIGHLY dangerous, stepping on a single wrong area can spell doom for the whole party.
- All players must roll 1d10. If any player rolls a 4 this is instant death/dissipation/ Fear shields are ZERO and you need to use pendant to retreat back home. Otherwise match your rolls to the results:
1: Instant death (just for you, return to Round 1)
2: Nothing happens
3: - 50% of your remaining HP
4: Instant death (for everyone, game over)
5: Nothing happens
6: Nothing happens
7: - 50% of your remaining HP
8: Nothing happens
9: -25% of your remaining HP
10: Instant death

- All players need to roll 3 times to make it to the next round EACH

gaia_crown [ Round 4: ]

- You finally make your way to the very top of the shrine. You see the statues of the old gods, several of them. However, the area is very unstable. Roll 1d12. This is the item you end up with, congratulations! This is now your item to keep! Match the correct roll of yours to the item, and read the results carefully!
- There is only one of EACH item so if you manage to claim the item in your quest, please come back to THIS THREAD to post the form below to claim that item. Make sure you also pick up its image HERE and read general instructions of use.
- Once again the max you can ever obtain period of these items per character is one status effect and one battle effect item throughout all the class C items.
- These are first come first serve that means if someone else has already posted here claiming that item, you cannot get it! Instead, you can look one number above or below the item and select that item instead. Ie: I roll a 1, but 1 is already claimed. I can look at 2 and claim that instead IF I can.
- New items, will be imported in once this list gets cleared up/ claimed almost all the way up.

1. The Acorn of Zeus: A seed from the tree symbolic to the God Zeus, it glows with a green yellow light, a small thunderbolt like crack running down the side.

Siddie looked up at the mountain and sighed. At least her outfit was a practical one for climbing and active things. "Be careful," she admonished Sammy, and took the gloves, pulling them on and adjusting the strap on her bag so it sat comfortably and snugly against her back. "I should have brought rope ... "

"Me? Not careful?" The grin was honest as she looked at her ghoulfriend. "No idea where you got the idea..." Moving towards the wall she dug her left fingers into the stone getting a solid grip hauling herself up the first step of the climb.

"We'll be good. There looks like places to rest along the way, little flat spots. Just don't look down yeah?"

Siddie stuck her tongue out at Sammy. "I'm sure I have no idea," she said primly.

She looked up at the hillside, paused, then took the gloves off again and stuffed them under the flap of her bag; she stretched her hands and grew her fingers into long, slender talons. "There," she said, satisfied, and stretched up to dig her claws into the rocks and cracks, finding a toehold as she began to climb.

Sammy looked up grinning as Siddie grew her shadowy claws. They filled the cracks easily, and the gloves would make her palms much more comfortable during the climb. Her own bone fingers flared with FEAR digging into the dirt with every clawed grab, even her own flesh hand seemed to dig into the dirt as she used FEAR to power her climb.

"C'mon Sid! Let's see those pretty legs of yours work ghoul!"

"You're such a pervert," Siddie giggled. "Thinking about that now?" The handholds were uncertain and crumbly, and she had to test each spot before putting her weight on it. Her progress upward was slow.

"Not my fault you got a head start!" She looked up at the other ghoul with a grin, "Can't blame me for enjoying something while we climb right?" Her own fingers sank into another crack following Siddie's lead. Eventually she saw a path, "Hey Sid... you think you can follow this?" She reached up to the side following a steeper path, bone and flesh digging at stone and dirt moving along the cliff. The top wouldn't be far off at all when she was climbing like this. "I think I found the path!"

Siddie made her way over towards Sammy's route. "I think you're right!" she answered. This was a much easier path, and it seemed to lead straight up towards the top.

It wasn't long before the top was in range, the last few feet leading to the top breezed by and Siddie wasn't far behind when Sammy finished pulling herself over the lip of the mountain side.

Reaching out with her left hand she helped pull Siddie the last few feet before dragging her into a hug followed by a kiss on the cheek. How could she resist Siddie like this? Rough, adventurous, she just climbed a mountain!

"Okay, enough celebrating, we have to get to the alter." Turning around she started to move down into the crater of the mountain before pausing.

"Jack Dammit."

The middle was filled with Lava pits, narrow walkways and crumbling melting stone, along with freshly cooling rocks created a risky path towards the alter in the middle of it all. With one sad look at Siddie she started down towards the path.

"I hate this part!" As if on cue the stone she stepped on cracked, sending Sammy sideways towards the lava with a yowl of rage as she quickly dissipated in the flames. Maybe Siddie would have better luck?

Siddie climbed over the top and was immediately swept up in a hug; she giggled and gave Sammy a tight squeeze as they took a moment to catch their breath. "We did it!"

" ... sort of," she amended as they turned to the crater and realized that the path to the altar was hazardous, lava pits on all sides. She shuddered. Flames and too much light. It was like this place had been specifically made to scare the two of them off.

Siddie picked her way after Sammy; when Sammy lost her footing and fell, Siddie shrieked and scrambled forward in an attempt to grab Sammy before she hit the lava. But Sammy was out of reach, and Siddie recoiled with a hiss and a sob as her sleeve caught fire, batting at the flames until they went out and cradling her singed arm to her chest for a moment.

She looked back towards the edge of the crater. Had Sammy been sent back to Halloween, or was she going to reform nearby? Should she go look for the zombie? But she'd have to make her way back through the lava field and down the cliff, and she suspected that Sammy would be angry if she turned back now. She took a deep breath and inched along the path.

Somewhere at the bottom of the cliff Sammy had reformed, the path was still the same but in her defense she didn't exactly start climbing as she was still shaken up from exploding into flames... again.

Did she always have to die to fire? It was so cliche...

The rocks wobbled under Siddie's feet. Her progress was punctuated by little squeaks of fear as she tilted and recovered over and over, shaking slightly from the close calls and the awful sight of seeing Sammy vanish under the lava, burning. She knew Sammy would be okay, but that didn't erase how terrible it was to watch.

A rock slid under her foot and she lost her balance, falling to her hands and knees far too close to the edge of a lava pool. Her pants singed, and the palms of her hands stung; she scrambled up hastily and found that her palms had purpled from the heat. She whimpered and closed her eyes for a moment. Then she rubbed her hands over her skirt and determinedly moved onwards towards the altar.

Just a little farther. Siddie's steps quickened just a little. She could make it. She could make it - the stone under her feet cracked, sending one foot plunging down into a tube of lava. She pitched forward, grabbing at a nearby rock to stop her fall, yanking her leg frantically upwards. Somehow, somehow she hadn't actually fallen in, but when she got her foot free, her pant leg and shoe were blackened and smoking from the intense heat, and her leg felt like it had been cooked.

She gingerly tested a step, then another. It was tender, but she could walk on it, and she wasn't stopping now, after she'd gotten this far. The altar was right there. She could make it.

The stone in the center of the crater was smooth and cool, but cracked, tilted; steam issued from some of the cracks, suggesting that lava still lay below the surface, even if it was deeper in the earth. Statues stood silent around the perimeter of the area, some of them cracked and damaged. Siddie walked carefully, keeping her footsteps as quiet as she could. She felt as though making too much noise would somehow disturb the ancient spirits that the place had been created for.

One statue in particular drew her attention, a statue of a robed, helmeted woman holding an owl on one gloved wrist. The statue's features were worn down by time and erosion, but Siddie thought that the expression seemed stern, yet kind. Powerful. Courageous. Not gentle, but not cruel either. She moved carefully towards the statue, stepping over cracks in the floor and negotiating tilted labs of rock to halt before the statue, looking up at the austere face, the owl that watched from blind stone eyes. Was the goddess a reaper, the owl her familiar? Maybe, Siddie thought, she should seek a monster spirit. But she didn't move from her spot.

"I wonder who you were," she said softly. "You look - you look wise. I wish you could tell me what to do next ... "

A glint of light caught her eye, and she looked to the statue's other hand. Something metallic lay in the hand, and Siddie stood on tiptoe, trying to see what it was. She couldn't see it. She was too short. "Excuse me," she murmured apologetically, and climbed onto the statue's plinth, stepping up onto a fold of the statue's robes to peek into its hand.

A simple bronze spearhead lay there, smooth except for the evidence of wear on its edges and the owl engraved on its base. It glinted invitingly, and Siddie felt a strong pull towards it. Hesitantly, she reached up and touched the spearhead. "May I?" she whispered to the statue, and a moment later, felt a strong but gentle sense of approval. Maybe it was her imagination, maybe not. But she felt as though the statue was giving her permission to take the artifact.

"Thank you, ma'am," she said softly, and took the spearhead before climbing back down. Once on the ground again, she sat down on the smooth stone, cradling the bronze spearhead in her hands. She would just rest here and wait for Sammy; Sammy would be here soon, she was quite certain, and they could share their victory together.

The world wavered around her then, and she started to get up, alarmed -

- and found herself at the bottom of the mountain again. Surprised, she let out a little shriek and fell back onto her butt in the dust.

It seemed Siddie was either busy moving towards the alter, or waiting for her to climb up. With no other option Sammy turned to face the wall of stone once more, cracking her knuckles in determination.

It was right then Siddie was deposited beside her with a startled squeak that caused her to tilt her head in wonder, "Siddie?" She was holding onto something, small and golden that caused her to blink a few times.

"You made it?"
