Welcome to the Archives! All the information you need to roleplay in Wardwood is stored in this subforum (though we strongly recommend reading the entire front page of the main shop thread first). The only required reading here is the expanded setting information thread, but you may also find the following threads useful:

Meta plot information
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Bestiary (companions & familiars)
Most of the rest of the content in this subforum is created by members, and often centers around other countries and peoples in the world of Wardwood, as well as cities, towns, and other settlements in Sunderland itself. However, you can post absolutely anything worldbuilding-related you want!

    Creating countries
While many users draw heavily from real life history when inventing things, we also permit—and encourage—you to get creative with your worldbuilding if you want to. Countries, peoples, languages, religions, etc in Wardwood should be similar to those that existed IRL during the late 1700s and early 1800s and should make sense within the shop's universe (for example, we don't want to see a country where people have purple eyes, white hair, and ride dragons, nor a country based on Victorian steampunk technology), but don't feel as if you need to do research or make your countries copies of real ones. This is, after all, a fantasy universe!

We do permit "duplicates" of RL countries, such as two different countries that are both based on France. When this occurs we merely assume that the countries are separate but very similar to one another, likely due to geographic nearness and a shared history.

    Regency era resources
Since Sunderland is loosely based on Regency era England, you'll come across Regency era resource threads in this subforum. This has confused people in the past, so we'd like to reiterate that historical accuracy is not required of you and you absolutely do not need to engage in any research unless you want to for fun/character inspiration. We won't be nitpicky about things like exact fashions, inheritance laws, or qualifications for lordship. At the same time, a very basic awareness of the time period and social mores is necessary to RP in Wardwood—for instance, women didn't serve in the military back then, fabric for skintight clothing hasn't been created, people are more socially conservative than they are now, and cars hadn't been invented yet. Please ask us if you have any questions!
