Sherry stared at her ceiling. Apparently, she'd fallen asleep. Her intention had been to make a few notes in her journal about her new artifact, not roll over and nap. And certainly not have another bad dream.

Don't let me make notes while lying on the bed again.

There was nothing mocking in the weapon's tone, and Sherry found that odd. Armagnac was probably right, too.

Sherry sighed and opened her phone. "Well, we can see about undoing all that lovely rest right now." She needed something to take her mind off of things.

Text to Jerkface:
Which training course did you want to do? Do you want to do that right now?

She hoped he'd say yes. She really, really needed something to think about that wasn't dead bodies.

Jake had been training on some dummies when he felt his pocket vibrate, and pulled the phone out of his pocket.

About time.

Text to Annoying Girl

'bout time. I still need to finish that mist one. I heard that one's a pain in the a**, but at least there's no stupid a** darts.

Why? Do you need more time to prepare, princess?

Sherry stared at the phone. She was almost flattered by the princess comment. Until she remembered who the text was from. He clearly meant it in one of those condescending ways.

Operation 'think about something else' was already working. She had she now had Jake to focus on. Sherry made grumpy faces at the phone while she typed.

[A.V.]
Text to Jerkface:

I was ready ages ago. You were the one that said "later"

I'll meet you there in 10 minutes.

"Really?" she asked, reaching for her boots. "Does he think I'm that girly or prissy or something?"

"In your opinion." Sherry rubbed the last bit of sleep from her eyes and headed for the door.

General Information
As the general, jack-of-all trades division, the Mist Hunter training course is a combination of the other divisions' training challenges and also one of the more complicated. The goal of this course is to rescue the princess in the tower. Below her, you'll find yourself confronted with a number of shadowling attackers, and beyond them, a room of only slightly deadly traps. But even should you reach her location, you still need to pick the lock on the manacles holding her in place. Unskilled fiddling with the locks will prove unhealthy for both the princess and yourself. And once that's done, you need to make your way back down through the traps and shadowlings, defending the princess the whole way.

The Miss Taken Tower is one of the most challenging and frustrating courses available.

If you fail: your princess dies, and you are quite possibly KO'd. Senior hunters are observing and will make with a timely rescue as needed.

If you win: the princess will adore you for the rest of her exceedingly brief existence. Peen points for 100% health for you and the Princess, shadowlings fought, going for consecutive rescues.

    Mechanics
    - roll your regular attack
    - roll your regular attack again

Text to Annoying Girl:

Only because you were in NO condition to do ANYTHING. Seriously. Your stupid giggling would of killed us both.

You'd better be sober when you get here, or I'll knock you out myself. I'm not doing this with you if you're drunk.

I never asked for friends.

Slowly making his way towards the training course, he looked up at the tower.
Looks a lot like Shadow Run.

Too late.

Weapon already summoned, he decided to start first.
She'd catch up when she'd get here.
... Maybe.

Sherry scoffed at Jake's reply. "I was not drunk." She knew it was pointless to argue. Jake was the stubborn type. So she just sighed and quickened her pace.

Upon reaching the training ground...well. It seemed he'd gone ahead without her. Really? Why even bother having her come down here then?

And he agreed. Sherry shook her head and summoned Armagnac. Well, let's see if we can make it through this. And with that, she dove in.

Armagnac was voicing her approval of Sherry's swings. So far, things weren't going to badly.

Jake responded to Sherry's retort with mock revelation.
"You know, you're absolutely right. I COULD do this without you.
There was a grumble in his head.

"Of course, sir whines-a-lot seems to think otherwise."
More grumbling.

The shadowlings out of the way, Sherry took a moment to stare at Jake. It was her very best 'I know you're mocking me' face.

Then she smiled. "I'm glad he does." She assumed Jake was talking bout his weapon. "I suppose it means one of you might have a bit of sense." She could be mocking, too. Kinda. Maybe. She shrugged and followed him into the next area of the tower.

"Unless," her brain was still processing things, "you both see me as nothing more than an extra shield." It's how Armagnac viewed others most of the time. Sarcasm began to leak into her voice. "Then perhaps I'm not glad. I might have to reevaluate our friendship if that's the case." She had no intention of doing this, no matter what he said.

She tried to step lightly as she followed the death trainee across the room. Perhaps she should have followed a little more closely. It might have prevented her from setting off that trap of pointy things.

"I saw this more as a mutual benefit relationship." he muttered.

Jake rolled his eyes.
"Besides. You kinda suck as a shield."
If Sherry was looking for a compliment, that was probably the best she wold get... until she ended up setting off a trap, which only prompted a very long sigh.

Stopping mid-step, he looked down to see a cracked tile seeming to hiss some kind of noxious vapour.

Letting out another sigh, he leaped over the tile, landing on one that seemed to crack and ooze some sort of liquid, and quickly moved off it onto the other side.

"Whatever. Just try getting over here without killing yourself... more, or something."

Jake's words stunned her almost as much as the trap had. "Mutual benefit relationship"? That...was that Jake's way of saying they were friends? It sounded like something Armagnac would say, and she would never admit to having friends, either.

"True enough," she sighed in response to his comment about her effectiveness as a shield. "Which means you must like my company." She grinned at him. He could deny it if he wanted. She didn't care. He'd basically just admitted they were friends; nothing could bring her down now.

Well, almost nothing.

"I'm working on it. You just hold you--" She was going to say 'horses'. The trap she tripped had other plans. A pit opened up right underneath her feet. She managed a gasp before it swallowed her.

The landing hurt, and sapped the rest of her shield. Her last thought before unconsiousness, besides her acknowledging Armagnac's rant, was that Jake was never gonna let her live this one down. Crap.

Somehow, the trap hadn't really taken him by surprise, and he watched as Sherry plummeted into the hole.

What, and risk stepping on more traps going BACK? No thank you.
Besides, there were probably hunters on standby, so she was probably fine.
Ok, maybe not "fine", but she wouldn't die.

I never said I was a friend.
He wanted to take back the mutual benefit remark too, because quite frankly, she was quite useless right now.

At least I'm still human.

This only prompted a wide grin from him.

Well, whatever. Useless trainee aside, he pressed up, making his way up the tower to where the princess was.
The moment he laid eyes on her though, he stifled a snicker.
The princess's face seemed to bear an uncanny resemblance to certain division head.

"Don't worry, your majesty, I'll have you out in a jiffy."
Caelius!princess did not seem pleased.

After tinkering with the right manacle a bit, it finally popped up, and Jake grinned.
This wasn't so hard. Just one more to go.

Pfft, what were people talking about?
This training course was a breeze.

Of course, he spoke too soon, and was currently fumbling when it blew up in his face, sending both him and the princess tumbling back.
"OW! ****, EXPLODING cuffs?!"

Whose brilliant idea was this?!

Cursing as he clutched a bleeding arm, he half-dragged princess!Caelius, who was not missing a limb or two down the stairs, towards the shadowlings he fought near the beginning.

Oh hell.
