Catching a root to the upper part of a foot was a loud enough request to Arashi for a break. There was still plenty of daylight left, the early part of the afternoon indicated by the slight tilt of the sun suspended in the otherwise clear sky. There was no rush and no set destination, so there was no real reason for the eevee-child to argue outside of pure, unwarranted stubbornness. He was merely out here for the sake of conceding to wanderlust, which wasn't all that unusual for the boy. He was curious, and downtown city life got irritating after a while, especially with all the war games the pokémon gangs invested themselves in. Sure, it was his way of life, but sometimes one just needed a break from it.
That "break" just happened to carry him for a number of days. Glancing around the forest clearing that he found himself in, Arashi idly pondered when he should actually start heading back; it was going to take a while, after all. Pinching long ears back, he didn't feel he was quite ready for the prospect. Then again, he might be fine as time passed heading back. He really should...
"Aww great, another one? Don't you guys know when to take a hint? This place is off limits! Sheesh, do I need to construct a barricade to keep everyone out of my property?" a fussy voice sighed.
Sharp ears told Arashi that it had originated from the trees, and dark eyes confirmed this observation. "Didn't see any signs that this patch of land was owned. Where does it say 'No Trespassing,' I must have missed it. Or is your name on here somewhere?" he sneered with a smirk.
"I shouldn't have to do that. Nobody had to in those wretched Gaian towns, and I'm not beneath them. Leave peacefully and I won't have to evict you," the golden-eyed child warned.
Arashi couldn't help but to think this may turn out to be kind of entertaining.

Bastet and Lorne had been out for a walk, trying to find new turf... or something. Frankly, she didn't know what was on Lorne's mind, but also didn't much care, so long as it led with something shiny for her to keep. They'd made it into a forest now and Bastet was beginning to grow concerned that this would not end in her getting anything but dirty. And she'd already given herself a bath twice today!
"Loooorrrrrnnnnnnne" she whined, kicking her Pokeball weapon with irritation. It only rolled a little ahead of her and she easily caught up with it in a few, heavily exaggerated steps. "Where're we gooooooiiiiiiinnnngggg? I'm getting boooooooooored." She was already bored, truthfully, but she was sure Lorne already knew that. "Why're we in the woods? There's nooooothing out here!"
Just as she'd whined the last statement, they came into earshot of two people talking. She instantly fell silent and was now far less bored. Perhaps they'd have something she could "convince" them to give to her. She motioned for Lorne to follow her as she picked up her Pokeball and crept silently closer to the voices to get a better idea of what was going on.

He could hear squabbling of some sort as they walked, and it interested him. That could potentially mean some sort of gain for them if they were really lucky. If not, well it was at least a promising distraction from the near endless wandering the two of them did!
"Baaaaaassssteeeeeeeeeeet when are you going to drop the stupid ball?" he flicked his tail toward his friend with a smirk, amused by her irritation with the wandering. "We're going North, roughtly. As for bored, if you'd hush and listen...." and there an annoyed "I'm not beneath them." echoing to them, and he grinned. "I wonder what that's all about." of course she'd fallen silent about that time and caught it too and he grinned.
"I know they say curiosity killed the cat but well..." he was a very curious one he knew! As she grabbed her Pokeball and crept closer he followed along behind, peering through the trees to see the arguing pair, and he chuckled. "Are they seriously arguing about the woods?" he was more than a little amused really. "My moneys on the kid on the ground." words murmured lightly so only Bast could hear him, his tail flicking side to side in interest as he continued to watch. "What is he anyhow I wonder...?"

Arashi's large ears were not merely for decoration, and the overstated complaints that neared his own location were not lost on him. Keeping his eyes locked on the short boy in the trees, he noted that the wurmple-kid was too preoccupied on Arashi being the prime bane of his anger. Well, that was positive; if whoever had wandered into the area did so with as little knowledge about the place as the eevee had, then they had a chance of getting away should this turn ugly. Then again, there was the chance they were with the other child as well...
While he was unaware that it was in a grey area between the two options, Arashi's mood seemed to sink a little. This could still be fun, or it may have turned into more trouble than it was worth. Ah well, he was used to swinging it.
"Are you just going to stand there, or am I going to need to use force?" Kenley hissed, already on the offensive.
Arashi smirked and shrugged, "Don't want to hear me out?"
Kenley glowered, "No. Your kind are nothing but trouble." Before Arashi could protest, the caterpillar-child shot a well-aimed thread at the kid on the ground floor in an attempt to tie up the intruder and toss him out of the forest.
String Shot was, unfortunately, not that powerful, and only proved to slow the speed demon down a notch. Arashi glanced down at the sticky string and made a face, "Gah, that's kind of gross..." It had, indeed, escalated to the point of war. Peering back up, the eevee whipped up a Sand Attack and dove for the bushes -- near enough to see the two pokémon within earshot but far enough away to tell if they were planning an attack on him in advance. "What are you two doing here?" he asked in a stage whisper.

"No idea," Bastet whispered before the odd looking child came crashing through the brush, startling her and causing her fur to stand on in for a moment. She hated being surprised.
"Hey!" She quietly yelled, "What the hell are you?!" She was so delicate. Good thing Lorne was there to smooth things over. Leave it to the Meowth to get them in trouble, and the sweet-talking Purrloin to get them out of it.

"Oh for the love of..." Lorne groaned some at Bast's less than smooth move there shaking his head a moment, and flicking his tail in her direction with a roll of his eyes.
"What my companion here is trying to say is...you don't look like anyone we've seen in our travels. How do you look and smell like a mix of Pokemon and human?"
He looked to Kenley then, eyes narrowing as he scented the air. "Bug type..explains the string shot..."
He leaned toward Bast and grinned. "We've been so very good lately...whatddaya say to a little fun Bast?" he looked up to Kenley then, tail flicking. Bug types were fun to harass, really!

Bastet's subtle-like-a-chainsaw question caught Arashi off-guard, staring dumbfounded at the brash meowth for a breath of time. He turned his head away, rubbing at his nose in an incognito attempt to hold back a laugh; now that was how you got people to answer a question! It made sense, though; this didn't seem to be the calmest time to coax a response out of someone... though Lorne seemed to be able to create enough time himself. What an odd pair... The child tossed a thumb over his shoulder to indicate the muddied brush of a tail and wiggled an ear a few inches, "Eevee, can't you tell?" He was being slightly sarcastic, but was surprised to find his distinguishable scent was not as fully obscured by whatever he had collected after days of travel. He flashed a toothy smile, "You're right, I'm probably somewhere in the middle of that range. Born as a full-fledged pokémon, though, if you can believe it." It always did irritate him that he never discovered what that glow was, from under a newspaper in the back alley, but in the end it didn't really matter.
Catching Lorne's comment to Bastet, taking a grazing look back at the other poké-child in the trees, Arashi snorted, I think I'm going to like these two.
Kenley was more than a little peeved at this point, and the drawn-on silence that lingered was beginning to feel a little heavy on his nerves. His temper was even more tattered over the fact that sand in the eyes hurt, and his natural Shield Dust could do nothing to save him from experiencing that fact personally. It felt like assault, and as far as Kenley was concerned, he did nothing to warrant such action. While he had been pretty good at keeping most of the riff-raff out of his neck of the woods, every so often there would be someone who didn't want to leave. You'd think, he hissed to himself as he tried rubbing sand out of tearing eyes, that a counteroffensive would turn most people off from sticking around! He knew that irritating, long-eared trespasser was still there, though. That smug grin he flashed up to the kid in the tree wasn't one of someone about to leave.
"You'll regret that, you low-life," he growled venomously. While the sand was still settling, Kenley at least had a height advantage. He tossed a Poison Sting in the general direction of the outcropping of bushes, hoping to hit something in an attempt to release some of his pent up aggravation over the situation.

The Meowth gave a devious, "hell yeah" sort of smile to her counterpart. She gave a quick toss of her pokeball, careful not toss it too high that it'd get stuck in the branches of the bush. A few hand gestures were made to Lorne, all of which were completely pointless. They always had the same plan, Lorne distracts, Bastet attacks.
After she'd satisfied her apparent need to be ridiculous, she hurried off through the brush with nary a sound; she was a cat after all. Her plan was to circle around behind the kid in the tree and climb up the back while Lorne, and maybe this new guy, kept his attention. Then, once in range, she would convince him to give her whatever he had. She was very persuasive that way. Lorne may have a way with words, but she had a way with claws, especially when she used Covet. She had yet to meet a Pokemon that could guard against that little trick. Not even her Purrloin friend managed a defense against it.
She was now at the base of the tree, waiting for Lorne to start the distraction. This always worked.

If Lorne could read minds, he'd have been in stitches over how Arashi had viewed Bast, because it was so accurate! She was very blunt about things, getting right to the heart of matters. "If you're an Eevee, then Bast is a Slowbro!" he flashed a grin at Bast and side stepped out of her range just then, it seemed safer after his little tease.
"How interesting." Lorne meant it too, to see someone who was half and half but started like one of them? It was interesting and it could provide so many opporunities for ones such as themselves. "How'd you get to lookin' like you do kid?" simply curious, who could blame him?
That darn pokeball was of course needing dealt with and for once she did so quickly, and he couldn't help the oh so serious look on his face as she made all those hand gestures. He rolled his eyes at her theatrics and dodged out of the way of the poison sting.
With a wink to both his companion, and the Eevee kid, he trotted out then close enough to the brush to be seen...and he began to taunt the bug in the tree.
"Hey nonny-nonny, bug in a tree, bet that you can't, string shot me!"
His voice rang out in a teasing sing-song as he danced around the tree and away from where Bast was at moving at a constant pace, but never in the same way. Sometimes in straight lines, sometimes zig zags, other times in swerves, and all along he was singing, louder and more annoyingly "Hey nonny-nonny, bug in a tree, bet that you can't, string shot me!"
Yes, Lorne was a brat.

Before the meowth had scampered off, Lorne's statement on her pokémon type had Arashi giving her a more scrutinizing look. He kept his voice low when he voiced his observation, "Most sun-bleached slowbro I've ever seen!" The way she was tossing that pokéball around, however, he wasn't about to raise his words to a more audible level.
At Lorne's question, the child-eevee rolled onto tiptoes but remained in a crouch below the level of the bushes that further obscured the small group from view of the caterpillar in the trees. He thought about how to answer that, but he couldn't give a more detailed retelling than... "Well, a friend of mine thinks I was bitten by something radioactive and gained superpowers. Obviously the kid is full of hot air, but I don't particularly know what happened. I was... er, in the middle of something more important at the time. It was something physical and glowing that caused it, though." He fidgeted slightly, but his eyes focused on the child in the trees, "Maybe he's got a better idea on how it happens. Should ask him." Nothing like egging on a fight, though it seemed he had no need to. Grinning, he was eager to see what these two felines had up their metaphorical sleeves.
"What the holy heck..?" Kenley hissed over the dying cloud of sand in the clearing. His eyes were still irritated with the particles, but there was no mistaking the fact that someone was outlandishly teasing him -- someone who wasn't that trespasser he was initially aiming for. "What is this, an invasion?" the mint-haired boy huffed, pulling himself closer to the edge of the branch. While he was definitely heavier than he used to be before his transformation, he was still on the shorter and lighter end of the spectrum as far as children were concerned. He leaned over a bit to get a better look at the little annoyance prancing around the clearing, and as the purrloin's badgering continued, made Kenley bristle. He could tell that it was a taunt meant to do just that, and to distract, but regardless of this knowledge, Kenley could still not ignore the feathers it ruffled. "Try me!" he blindly accepted the challenge only just barely before he attempted the shot. He realized that Lorne would be a difficult target to hit, but String Shot was also a fairly accurate move.
Arashi twitched, not having moved yet. While he wouldn't hesitate to help the two of them out, he was not a hundred percent sure what their plan was, and did not want to interfere in the success of it. He stood fully upright, noting that the shiny wurmple boy was distracted enough not to see Arashi unless the eevee moved to attack. Watching Bastet scale up undetected, he kind of wished the meowth would have waited a bit; at least he could have helped her with a literal Helping Hand, considering she was the one getting up close and personal to Kenley. While Lorne was drawing the brunt of attention to himself, he wasn't so sure the purrloin was actually wanting to land an attack from ground level. "Ah well, worth a try," he said with a shrug; at least it was something to do. Waiting for the String Shot to move out of his own trajectory, the swift child made a beeline to Lorne and tagged him, as if in a relay, to give him a bit of a power boost. While Arashi didn't much care whether the help was actually used or not, he did care about the need to keep from sitting still.

Scaling the tree was a breeze, Bastet's sharp claws were no match for the tree's rough bark. She had made it nearly to the weird-looking kid sitting on the branch when Lorne was halfway through his taunting song. Before making her move, however, she used Hone Claws, just to ensure her Scratch would hurt more than normal. She was in this to win it... whatever "it" was.
Patiently she waited until Kenley was sufficiently distracted, even letting him shoot a String Shot at her partner, who seemed to be getting some help from the other weird-looking kid. She carefully tucked the Pokeball in the curls of her tail and hunched backwards, ready to spring. A devious smirk pulled at the sides of her mouth and she launched herself at the purple thing. Her claws outstretched, she was sure that their plan had worked. What she really hadn't thought of was how high they were off the ground... and with the force of her flight, neither of them would be left on the branch if she connected. Lorne was the brains, not her.

It was probably smart Arashi hadn't raised his voice louder, Bast barely took the teasing from him, let alone some kid they'd just met! Saying it any louder might have been a death wish. Kinda. At least made for a pissy Meowth! Still he couldn't help but flash a grin at Arashi's comment, it amused him really.
The explanation of what had happened was interesting. He wondered what the benefits of having real hands and feet could be, but wasn't sure he wanted to know. For one climbing things would be harder without his claws. Asking the kid in the tree why he looked like he did...it had merit.
"Hey mister tree bug, why do you smell like a bug, but look like a human!?" Lorne was still prancing around, though he didn't move quite fast enough some of Kenley's string shot wrapping around his tail and he gave a yelp. "You got WEBBING in my TAIL!!!" He looked somewhat affronted at this only to feel that sudden energy boost, and he grinned suddenly not caring what was going on with his tail. Oh no he had more important things on his mind.
His attention was momentarily pulled by Bastet leaping at the kid in the tree, and it became immediately clear to him that if she landed her attack they were likely to fall from the tree and if she didn't then she would probably fall from the tree. He hadn't seen that little flaw in the plan. Oops..
"Bastet, execute move 42!" yep he'd made up a few moves for the two of them, and in this case it was a 'If you can, rebound off the kids head and back towards the tree' thing. He was watching anxiously to make sure she wasn't falling, though cats did land on their feet and all. Didn't mean he wouldn't worry.
The fur on the back of his neck raised and he let out a growl, claws raking the ground and he lept in the off chance that the move had connected and he was being knocked from the tree. If that was the case he'd probably use fury swipes on the kid. If not, well he'd have landed on the tree trunk, and begin scaling it. He just hoped he didn't get landed on. Again. That tended to hurt.

Kenley nearly snarled at Lorne's question amidst the prancing and taunting. While not a first choice on the matter, he refused to answer merely out of the fact that... well, he didn't really know why he was transformed in the way he was. Yes, he knew what caused it, but he was much too literal-minded to think that's what was being asked as well. Instead, he merely stuck his tongue out as the purrloin complained of the String Shot just barely hitting its mark, as though that were all the response he needed.
Thoroughly distracted, he hadn't a clue that there was a sneaky meowth within reach of his back, or even that there had been another pokémon in the area at the time. Perhaps if he hadn't been so easily irritated, the bristling of something watching from the shadows would have alerted the child, but it was fully attributed to the prancing purrloin below the tree tops. It wasn't until he heard the scuffing of claws against the bark did Kenley turn to investigate, and by that time, Bastet was already soaring through the air toward the caterpillar-boy, claws outstretched. He barely had time to yelp in surprise before she connected with him, toppling Kenley's sense of balance over his already-precarious perch and into the clearing below. His hands shot up to block the attack a little too late, and ended up latching onto Bastet instead.
Arashi skid his swift-moving body to a halt, spinning around once he realized what was about to happen with the irrational bug-child and brash meowth. "She's not seriously going to-- Oh good grief," he hissed between clenched teeth, cringing. He rushed over, but there was too much distance between himself and the place they were about to land to even attempt to catch. He probably would have laughed at the miscalculation if it hadn't been for the fact that it was a pretty steep fall... Glancing at Lorne's quick reaction time, he wondered if he had a plan at all or if he was just winging it.

An expletive was uttered as Bastet realized her mistake, only noticed thanks to Lorne. She tried to turn, given her companion's suggestion as she managed one swipe at the Wurmple boy. But as she was trying to flip back, she felt a hard tug on her tail, causing her to yelp loudly in pain. Cat's have a large cluster of nerves at the base of their tail, and Bast was no exception. She caught the branch as gravity pulled the kid downward, tugging on her tail again. Another scream of pain and she let go of the branch, the two plummeting towards the ground. As the pain her lower back subsided, and the ground came racing closer, all she could think of was how she was going to kill Kenley. No one, and she meant no one, pulled her tail! Let alone twice! Oh how she hoped she landed on him rather than vice versa; she was already livid.

Lorne could tell he was hitting a nerve, and so instead of tap dancing upon it lightly, he was now flat out Riverdancing upon it, paws stomping upon that nerve. Figuratively, of course. “I bet you looked better as a bug! Of course I can’t eat you now, that’s your only saving grace!” hey when you were hungry, you were hungry no matter your prey. Even a disgusting bug was better than dying of hunger, or coming close to it again. The memory made him shudder slightly. No way.
His eyes went wide in horror as bug-boy there latched onto Bast, and “NO! BAST!” was cried out and he was off like a shot, much closer than Arashi was, and he did the only thing he could think of. He positioned himself beneath the falling pair. He wasn’t chancing Bast getting hurt in the fall, and with their luck, the kid would flip in mid air, and have her pinned beneath. Nope, he’d take the crushing fall. Or try to anyhow!
The yelps of pain had him bristling and he wanted to leap up and claw the boy from beneath, but that could just cause him to hurt Bast further, and that wasn’t a part of the equation either! So instead he braced himself for impact. He was at a loss of what else to do, this sort of thing had never happened before!
