The trip to the barn from the silo was a short one, though the wind ripping through the bare fields to blow against the buildings was bitterly cold.

What little light remained from the setting sun shone a thin trace of light across the barn floor between the two ill-fitting doors. Though creaky they open with ease, and the barn looks well-kept.

Newly swept out, the knocked over food bin from before obviously cleaned up and put somewhere else. The old rabbit hutch has had it's legs knocked out and now sits right on the floor, patched up and still well-worn.

Sheep low softly, sleeping far to the right in a large stall, though the horse stalls remain empty; you could see them outside in a fenced run on your way in. Covered in blankets, but still grouped together for warmth.

Even the windows look like they've been washed as light reflects off of bits of metal here and there, tiny glistenings of gold, orange and red where they hit.

It's quiet too. Very quiet.

User Image The barn didn't bother Dragon. He was fierce and brave and completely at home in a man's dwelling. Not to say he wasn't a bit on edge, it was just the barn didn't worry him. It was the house nearby. Man was a known rabbit killer and they were not welcome here.

Dragon looked over the ragtag group. A hlessi, a runner-to be and a few others he hadn't bothered to learn the names of. "You lot wait here." He mumbled when they had entered the door. "Ginkgo, I'm giving the place a look about before sending the rest of them in."

With that, he snuffled around the barn, eyes picking up the hutch, the food bins, the empty stall, the lowing sheep. He took special care to put his eyes to the ceiling, having heard stories of the dreaded pfeffa that had dropped from the sky last time.

User Image "Keep your wits about you." The smaller buck stood on his hind legs as he spoke to the larger owsla in somewhat of a salute, before turning his golden gaze to the rabbits they were leading. He knew all of them but one, a hlessi that wished to join them. He was scowling, but not because he was angry with any of them, but because such an expression seemed worn in to his features to the point of never changing. They were strong rabbits, or at least they seemed it, and hopefully they would all make it through.

"Listen up. Why we're here is no secret or surprise. We need flay for the down desperately, else we wouldn't be taking such drastic measures. Look for anything edible and gather as much of it as you can safely carry. We'll also see if there are more hutch rabbits to bring back. I don't need to warn you of the dangers here. Keep quiet." He didn't necessarily like hutch rabbits, but fresh blood was fresh blood and they couldn't exactly be picky right now.

"Charcoal, is your leg and back still sore?" The black buck had nearly run with the black rabbit. To see him standing there was impressive, yet he was worried the wounds would serve as a handicap.

"We need you in tip top shape. You are our first line of defense against elil. As a runner, you are to help us keep watch for any of the thousand and, should they appear, you are to distract them. Do you understand?" It was common sense, but the buck had been through a lot and he was freshly promoted. The tawny buck felt the need to cover the basics.

Coal cocked his head as they entered, he had no idea why he was doing this again much less why he was back in the barn. And he was more than a little irritated he was still being treated like a hlessi and not the runner he was told he was now becoming, but respect would come with vigilance he supposed.

He listened as Ginko spoke and then shrugged off the question about the wound. "I'm healed sir. It's been a couple months since the fool race I got torn up. I've had some time in the wilds to heal. Sometimes in the morning I'm stiff but we're okay. I feel fine right now." He nodded and then turned his head to sniff around. "There was flay here last time, there should be some now."

Mud Flower had made it to the barn, that damn barn again. She gave a soft sigh before looking off to the side in silence. Things seemed… wrong, so very wrong. She wasn’t sure what it was, or why, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. She twitched slightly and cleaned an ear nervously as she watched Dragon enter. She didn’t say anything merely waited, keeping a lookout around them. When he was ready for them to enter he would call, until then they needed to stay alert incase trouble should arise.

+Bloodroot+

Bloodroot stared at the human’s home; he wasn’t all to scared of it. He had been here before. He had spoken to one of the cats, of course not without bringing a present; a dead mouse he had found. He had not felt sorry for the creature; death was what it was for any creature. The cat spoke for a while, but the mouse wasn’t worth much but Bloodroot escaped with more knowledge. It paid to know everything you could, no matter the sources.

Shaking himself from the cold he was very thankful for his thick fur and the fact he was simply use to it. Though he would much rather be in that rotten log he had made his home. He looked to the scruffy gray male with distaste. Looked like he had already been on the losing side of luck. The next buck with shredded ears. He knew only one reason for a rabbit to have ears like that, and it was from losing a bad fight; and then the black buck looking as if he had been shredded by a dog. Could these rabbits not run? He listened to the browns words and lazily cast red eyes around him even as the black moved, and then there was even a doe.

In his searching Blood spotted something. Looking to the others he dismissed them by turning his back then moving toward the small object. Close to it he was pleased to see Flay on the ground and he happily took it up. Well, he had not seen much of this in the woods at least. Better this then finding a dead rat; that would mean a cat was about, or poison. Yes; he knew of that and new the smell thanks to some hutch rabbits explaining the sick but sweet smell to him. Giving a last look he moved a bit closer to the team again, saying not a word.

User Image The buck remained on his haunches as he surveyed the scene for any signs of danger. He was hell bent on making sure the rabbits all made it back to the down, though he knew he was asking much of Frith with that silent request. His ears, which had been ripped over the course of many a scrap, swiveled this way and that. He briefly glanced towards the barn's cracked door, hoping Dragon would return soon with the all clear.

"Good, Charcoal. You're a tough buck." It was the closest to a compliment the buck could muster at a moment, given the circumstances. That and dishing out thanks weren't part of the tawny, short male's repertoire. It was at that moment he noticed Bloodroot moving. Was he leaving...?

"Hlessi, were are you going?"

No, he had caught sight of something that made the owsla feel a bit better about this entire affair. At least they had something to show for the trip, to give to the marli and kittens. That did not mean he trusted the stranger, however, and he arched a brow ever so slightly.

"Great. Hold tight to it. At least we know there is flay still here. Keep your eyes peeled, everyone." They'd be entering the barn soon and he was not too keen on that.

Coal inwardly scoffed at the strange half compliment. You try almost dying, have a run in with your dead grandfather and then healing with these wounds. See how tough it makes you. He though with a huff. None the less he was amused that it was the hlessi, the true hlessi, that was the first to find flay. He smiled at the buck. Being in the wild made your senses stronger he thought.

Mud glanced at the others before turning back to watching the world around them. Things seemed just a bit off, it was still far to quiet. No cats, no dogs, surely someone was making noise somewhere aside from there little group.

She moved a bit towards the edge of the barn, not wanting to stray to far but wanting to see if she could maybe get a look at one of the other teams.
