Shaking his head Sumac looked down at the path Cardinal had taken. The stallion had wanted to be alone for a while. That meant that Cardinal wouldn’t really be alone most likely but who was Sumac to point that out. With the red male’s female friend Shadow’s Fear coming down south and also be given rein to just order Sumac around like a slave was getting to the point that Sumac considered leaving the herd. Of course he didn’t have anywhere else to go and just taking off might land him in hot water with other members of the tribe like Avalanche’s mate would hunt him down and kill him. Sighing he shifted hi weight and kept his guard over the path. If anyone came he was to stall them or turn them around. Sumac could only hope that no one particularly stubborn came along. Then he would have an issue to deal with.

Seeing another Azrein galloping up toward him Sumac changed to the other side of the path to intercept him. The last thing he wanted was for another to pass him by and have to face Cardinal’s wrath. To make sure he got the other’s attention Sumac spread his white wing’s wide to form a block. His tail swished once showing the poisonous plant he always had on him earning him his name.

Sumac was decidedly unimpressed with the other male’s attitude. He hadn’t been attacked or assaulted at all. Sumac had only stood in his path. “The problem is Cardinal Alfonse Amadeus has said this path is closed off. I understand you’re in a hurry but I would suggest you find another way around. A long way around.” Sumac through a look over his shoulder for about half a second before looking back at the other bird like male. “Cardinal will be in a murderous mood if he’s bothered right now.” He shifted his weight and looked back to the other stallion. “For your own safety I’d suggest another path.” With that said he tucked his wings back to his body and looked calmly at the male.

“If you go to your young then Cardinal is certain to see them. Again using a path around would be safer for you and your child.” Sumac spoke loudly and sighed. “If you choose to forge ahead. Just remember I’m not responsible for your child’s death.” With his task down for the most part he stood aside completely and waited if the male had any intelligence then he would ask if Sumac knew a path around. He wondered how foolish this feather brained one was.

“I do happen to have a path around in mind. So good of you to listen.” Sumac drawled out clearly annoyed. “Still needless pain and death is not something I would favor. Com along now.” Sumac started down the path the way that the other had come. It would be a short enough trip to get him started on a safer route and Sumac could still guard the path like he was supposed to.

Sumac walked quietly surprised that the other male had the intelligence to follow him and not act so recklessly. The question was one that he often asked himself. “It’s a matter of many things. Despite his looks and attitude Cardinal is very intelligent, strong, and fast. While I am larger than him I have challenged him several times and each time I was trounced.” Fairly brave or perhaps foolish it had been more than a dozen matches between the two and every one Sumac had lost. “On one such occasion I was baited into making a wager with Cardinal. Due to the results of the match I am forced to obey him for a time.” It was a painful spot that Cardinal often rubbed in when the two were alone.

“Threat no, challenge yes. I have learned how prideful and sadistic he is since then.” Sumac shook his head. His eyes flicked to the barely perceivable break in the path. It was almost no existent now but it was still open enough. “Here there was a path here a long time ago. It’s long since overgrown but still you should be able to follow it if you are careful.”


(If you’d like. Cardinal has always been part of a southern herd or another. He’s also always been a precocious pain in the butt. If he likes something he jealously guards it and preens. If it’s taken from him he gets upset and flips. He’s very straight forward even though he’s smart enough that he could be very cunning if he tried. He’d rather just run the enemy down and smash them to death rather than try and outwit them. He falls too easily to flattery but doesn’t really trust to many others unless they can best him and still acknowledge him.)

It was true enough. Cardinal didn’t seem that bad unless someone got something that the male thought belonged to him. Sumac had seen it happen enough times to know that he didn’t want that to happen to him. “I wish you luck. This old path interest with a few others down the line. Be cautious.” He headed back to his path thinking perhaps someday he would have to test his strength against the other male. Right now he wouldn’t win, but someday. That was a different story.

(Well anyone who got praised when CAA thought he should would definitely earn the stallions ire. Punk is more charismatic than CAA, so there would have to be a time when such an incident occurred. Before then CAA would have just been his normal cocky jovial self. So friend like but not someone really close to. Of course CAA would have just whooped Punk and walked off.
