After leaving the meeting and getting Robert out of there, Deryk went to try and find Jude so they could get the mission report out of the way. Aside from that, he had a few more things to say.
He really needed some coffee right now too.
"Why did you do that? Y-you heard him. Nothing but a defect.. a weak link... shouldn't sacrifice yourself for that..no," he said slowly, sadly while he was making his way towards the cafeteria.

He'd been waiting for Deryk, actually. Jude was in the hallway leading to the cafeteria waiting for Deryk with a good amount of patience. When Deryk was by his side he started walking and at the words of his fellow Hunter an eyebrow quirked.
"No one is as defective as he'd lead you to believe," he said pointedly as they walked along. "We may not always follow orders to the letter but that is just how it is on the field. We make judgment calls even if it isn't the best one to make, especially if we happen to be ... influenced by other things."
Jude took in a deep breath, "Besides, why lose a friend without a fight? If I can fight to keep you around, I will damn well do so."

Looking at Jude as he began to speak, Deryk sighed and shook his head before looking down at the tile flooring as they entered the cafeteria.
"More to it than that.." he said quietly. Almost too quietly to be heard. He was a sympathizer. Hadn't someone once said that was one of the worst things to be here?
"what's the point of keeping me around if you could end up getting killed yourself over it?" he pointed out while flopping down into one of the chairs. His arms crossed over the table and he put his head down for the time being. He'd grab coffee in a bit. Not yet though.

Jude already knew of some of Deryk's sympathetic inclinations. Considering how friendly Deryk was with that Bul-person. It was one of those things Jude had let slide in the recent weeks simply because he himself was not sure how to feel.
Certainly he attacked with gusto when they attacked him but for the most part ... It was all about observation, like riling them up if they were captives, just to see if they behaved even remotely human-like.
Some might call the fascination a bit morbid.
"Do you plan on letting that come to pass?" He asked quietly as he seated himself across from Deryk. "What good does it do you to allow yourself to be sacrificed? If it comes down to it and I get executed? Then fine. I'm not saying that is what I want but..."
"I don't want you to die either if I can help it." Jude reiterated quietly. "We all ******** up. Every single one of us. Caelius wants to sit there and look down on us because we don't dance the way he wants us to? Fine. I don't give two shits. I know I did my best out there and you do your best, too."
Jude went quiet and sighed a little, "I mean...I realize your views might be a bit ..unpopular. I've noticed it during the last mission we are on. Doesn't mean ... It makes you 'defective'..."

Deryk kept his head down, not looking up at Jude for the time being. He was shaking a bit as he heard his fellow Death trainee speak. So he figured it out then. His views. Then again, it wasn't too hard to see. He was always reluctant to strike against the students.
"Don't want that to happen.." he said. His voice wavered a bit and he had to take in a breath before speaking more, "P-people ******** up.. yes... b-but.. this.. this is like military. Went against orders. N-not supposed to let personal feelings get in the way.. and y-yet.."
Another breath was taken. Or was that a sniff? It was hard to say with the way his head was in his arms like that.
"Soldier's useless if can't or won't fight... j-just not.. cut out for this.. n-never was.."

Jude snorted a bit, "Yeah. And? You went against orders. You are a bit softer with the critters than you should be but I don't see why it couldn't be used as an advantage. Just like the military there aren't just ruthless killers. There are so many different factions and groups within it. I mean..."
He leaned back in his chair frowning a bit, "I know your heart might bleed at the thought but...Y'know what? You might be able to get us a lot of intel with that. That whole you can get more flies with honey business."
"I'm not going to encourage you to wear a shirt that proclaims 'Put down the Weapon. Hug a Monster'. I'm not sayin' you should argue that point with the higher ups either but..." Jude shrugged his shoulders a little.
"Not everyone has it in them."

Yes, he would be able to get more intel. That was for sure. Well. Sort of. Not all the students were trusting of him and for good reason. He was still an enemy, even if he did have some 'allies' on the other side. Deryk had to take a few moments, just sitting there, breathing a little heavily.
"Not one of them..."
The trainee was regretting having ever taken the red pill. He thought he could really be something. A sort of hero in a way. Doing good and all that jazz.
"More of a liability.. this way... might be able to get more information but.."
In the long run that probably wouldn't do much good for him in the eyes of his superiors.
Deryk lifted his head a bit, but he still kept his face hidden. His voice still wavering.
"Sorry you had to get yourself into this... throwing yourself on the line for me.."

Jude sighed a bit at the moment of inner debate, which of course amused Yom. He suddenly got up and wandered over toward Deryk's side of the table and suddenly he did what he rarely did, especially with other men, he hugged Deryk. Arms draped about the other blonde and he just hugged him.
No homo, Deryk.
None.
"Maybe you are a liability but you are one that I would protect and help to the end, Deryk. This is a second chance for you to pick yourself back up and get on the right track or whatever." Jude squeezed his arms lightly about Deryk's shoulders before releasing him.
Jude sat down again but this time next to Deryk, "I wasn't going to just ... let you die like that. If you gave me the choice to do it again...I would. Over and over. You are a worthwhile person for me to want around..."
"I don't think of you as a liability, honestly. You are just Deryk. You're like the rest of us trying to figure out what is right and wrong in all this," He said softly his eyes turning to gaze around the cafeteria. "No one gets it right the first time. If they do then they're some sort of Mega Human."
He looked at Deryk, "Would you let me get executed if the tables were turned?"

Deryk heard a rustle at the other side of the table, and he thought that Jude was getting up to leave. So it was to his great surprise when he suddenly felt someone's arms wrapping around him. Lifting his head up in shock, he revealed his face for just a moment. It was wet. Though, he soon quickly lowered his head again. Between that, and Jude's follow up words, he was having trouble speaking himself.
"N-no..wouldn't.." he managed to get out, barely a whisper at the moment lest he lose his voice in the middle of speaking. He didn't have too much more to say. Not right now while he was a huge mess. But a part of him had to wonder just when he managed to get himself such a great friend.
Biting his lip for the moment, he managed to say a little more.
"I-I'll g-get on report.. right away... if... both make it out alive.. o-owe you everything.. yes.."

Jude said nothing about the wetness of the face or really anything at all. He only figured, awkwardly, that he would probably cry too if he was in this situation. Not likely. Still, he didn't regard Deryk as being weak or lesser in his mind.
As Deryk affirmed that he wouldn't just let Jude die he just smiled a little and nod a bit, "Then we're pretty much square, alright? Don't just give out on me, Deryk. I need a coffee-buddy. I don't make that many friends..."
He shook his head a little, "It'll get done. We'll make it," he had confidence in Deryk. "You don't owe me a thing except to make use of your second chance. No matter what happens."

The death trainee was biting his lip again, trying to keep himself from sobbing too hard. He just nodded quietly to Jude while keeping his head lowered.
"Th-thanks Jude... R-really appreciate.."
Deryk had to pause there, and he took in a deep breath.
"You're.. r-really good friend.. y-yes.."
Jude might have said that he didn't owe him, but he really felt that he did.

Jude smiled a little, he was glad Deryk appreciated that he stuck his neck out for him. Even if it wasn't serious at all Jude would have stood up for the other blonde. It was simply because he did genuinely grow to like him, and it was pretty difficult to get Jude to genuinely like someone at times. He quietly reached out and patted at Deryk's shoulder.
"You're a good friend, too," he said quietly and shifted his shoulders a little, "and no matter what I got your back."
Even if people were right and those singled out deserved their fate, Jude simply didn't go for it. Not really. Jude simply didn't believe in letting those he cared for 'hang' for their crimes.
"..You going to be okay, Deryk?"

A weak sort of smile touched Deryk's lips as he lifted his head slightly. Nodding to the other blonde hunter, he took in a deep breath.
"Y-yeah... 'bout as ok as can be. Been stressed a lot lately. This just icing on cake. Yes.." he murmured while wiping his face gingerly.

Jude snorted a bit, "Must be a pretty shitty cake," he said bluntly toward the other male.
There was a small pause as he shifted to stand up, "Well before we go work on that report, wanna goof off a little?"
Maybe if he could get Deryk to relax a bit, then things won't seem so bad for the both of them. Blade Kuroda At least heading toward a wrap? IDK. We'll chat it over when you get on.

Deryk nodded slowly to that statement. It was pretty shitty, yeah. Though, he soon paused as Jude made the offer to goof off a bit. It was tempting. Very tempting. "B-better not. Let's just... get this over with.. yes?"
