An episode where the Turtles weren't in it 95% of the time... and it kicked a**! eek
A few points to touch upon: -Tang Shen was Yoshi's wife in the comics. He and Saki's brother, Oroku Nagi, were fighting over her, instead of Yoshi and what's-his-name in the cartoon. They did, however, create a character I thought was just as detestable as Nagi.
-We learn that Yoshi was not only picked to be a Guardian by Mortu himself, but became Guardian Prime. Kick. a**.
-We learn a bit more about the Ancient One (AKA Major Flatulence, Artue's name for him, or Onnaou/Fart King, my name for him), as well.
-Recognize Yoshi's yellow track suit? That was what Sifu Bruce Lee wore in his last movie, Game of Death.
-Chibi Splinter rocked.
-Wonder what the devil's going on with those four shadowy things and Ancient One....
Gohan's 00b3r summary So, the turtles new lair is coming together slowly. AFter some failing power, the turtles decide to tell stories! Yeehaw! Leo volunteers to tell a story about Splinter's master...HAMATO YOSHI! Yaay. So the story starts when ol' Yoshi's a little dude, and just after World War II, so Japan's all poor. So t his fat dude in a hat walks by, and drops some money! Oh boy! Yoshi's buddy says "let's keep it!" But Yoshi says "NO!" and gives it back to the old man. Yoshi is offered to keep the yen if he can snatch it from the dude's hand. he does! O.O Big man takes Yoshi and his bud to his house. There the two grow up together, learn martial arts and have alll sorts of fun. They also fall in love with this chica called Tang Shen! =o So one night, whats-his-face and Yoshi go out in the twon with Shen. They then rescue a very familiar fellow from some FOOT! O___O The dude takes them to this place,a nd they are offered to be guardians of da Utroms. The Ancient One FORBIDDDEDEDEDS this, however. But, hey, like any good son, they ignore his warnings. And they both become guardians. Yoshi gets promoted to Prime guardian, jealous ugly man goes nowhere. Yoshi gets some Tang Shen lovins', jealosu ugly dude zippo. So naturally, he murders the woman he can't get, and betrays those he swore to protect. With this, the Utroms are forced to flee. Yoshi and ugly man share a staring contest of ANGER. Yoshi comes home to see his beloved dead! He tells the Ancient One he's gonna kill dat b***h dat killed dat b***h. So he goes out, wearin' some Bruce Lee duds, and takes on a bunch of Foot Ninja all awesomely. He enters the Shredder's stronghold, and fights his old friend. He wins, of course. And then he leaves after being victorious. Afterward, he leaves with Splinter (Who Tang Shen adopted earlier in the episode), naming him as such to remind him forever of the revenge he has taken, or someting like that, as the Ancient One said revenge gets under your skin like a splinter. Ya. Oh, yeah, he went to New York to set up the new base with the Utroms. And then we see The Ancient One enter a basement and talk to some fr33ky shadows!!

i'm going to say the only reason they replaced saki's brother with a different character is because those comics with that storyline didn't have saki as an utrom and instead had him as an actual human. correct me if i'm wrong though. i barely read the comics.
and yeah i noticed the yellow outfit and thought of the bruce lee reference also. i believe lee said he wore it because it was neutral in that it wasn't associated with white and wasn't associated with black. so it was in the middle and had no association. or something like that. he explains it better. lol
that first shadowy dude at the end sort of had like a shredder type looking mask on or something. but i don't know if i was just seeing things or what. the rest of them are probably also dressed similarly although it was only the first one where i really thought the mask was shredder-like. and you knew something sinister was going to happen when at the end they suddenly cut to the ancient one walking down the flight of stairs ninja

Hey dudes and dudettes!
This episode was one for the books. I thoroughly enjoyed it! razz
It's nice to learn more about Yoshi and Splinter's origin, as well as the utroms.
The episodes in this season so far seem to focus on giving us "history" lessons. (i.e. Karai becoming Shredder, Bishop getting probed, the Ancient One and this past Saturday's episode.
A few weeks ago, I would've never known the ancient one was so involved in the turtles/splinter's/Yoshi's past! He just looked like a flatulent bum! xd
Like I said, one for the books. wink

Woah! Great episode!! This and the two episodes about Leo coming back really show that this series can seriously do its own thing, without relying on the comics! I was blown away by this episode. It's great that they can actually have nearl ya whole episode without the turtles in it. It's kind of a surprise that the network actually did that, usually the execs say things like "An episode of the Turtle show without the Turtles? FAILUER!!"
But this really was awesome. Yoshi was totally kickass, and there were some great freaking fights in it!
I agree, the uglydude was obviously based on Nagi, but they had to change it around cause Saki's an Utrom and thus has no family. Still! Wonderful! And, hey, it DID eventually tie into the turtle's origin, even if it was kinda slight.
Also, these shadows intrigue me.I noticed Shredder head likenesses, but I doubt they're related to the Shredder. I mean, what would Capn' Flatulence be doing covorting with an evil evil man?

Indeed. Also part of the reason they are so interesting.
I think they may be related to why the turtles wind up in the future (suchabadidea)

This was an amazing episode. Probably the best this season and one of the best in the whole series. The crew really out did themselves with this episode, it was very powerful to say the least.

Okay . . my little bit on this one . . here goes:
*Mikey going silly and dramatic when they loose power to the tvs was great, though I would have pegged him as the one most likely to start telling a story . . he loves so many imaginative things that it just . . fits.
*Leo telling the story was great; it's nice to see that they figured out a way to compensate for the differences making Shredder an evil Utrom gives the storyline. Good show -- literally.
*I also noticed the Bruce Lee-ness of our wonderful Yoshi . . dude, he makes the outfit look good! (And generally everything from that outfit's time slot looks like crud . . but he actually makes me like it . . and think "go speedracer, go!" which is really just my silliness coming out . . )
*Little Splinter was cute . . and the fact that it was Teng Shen that was nice to him first just gives one a big case of the "ahhhhh"s. Though it makes ya wonder why he hasn't mentioned her at all before now . . not even once! You'd think someone that nice would have you singing their praises morning noon and night.
*Last silly thought -- Yoshi's best friend wasn't evil, it was his bad haircut that made him that way! (Truly, that was a BAD haircut . . I think you can blame his not getting promoted and gettin' a girl of his own all on the hair!) 3nodding
