So, whether you got here straight from the guild or from the main thread, you're looking for some information on what this whole Guardian Fairies thing is about. GF used to be a breedables shop where I gave out RP kids to people, but I no longer have the time to run it. So now it's a totally free, do-it-yourself edit-your-own fairy shop! Now no one has to wait for an event to get a fairy - you can use the bases I've made and draw on your own fairy's characteristics, and then there you have it, a cute, fully RPable character to join in with the rest of the guardian fairies!

Our goal here at Guardian Fairies is to have fun with a silly, easy concept that anyone can join. Even if you can't draw (or don't think you can), I encourage you to stick around and see if someone else will edit your fairy in one of the minishops, or try and do it yourself and then feel free to use the Art Help thread if you run into a problem.

Our other goal is practically no rules! The only rules are as follows:

Rule #1: Be respectful of everyone here (obviously).
Rule #2: Don't take the bases or anyone's edited art and try to pass them off as your own somewhere else (double obviously).

And that's it! Try to keep the easygoing environment going by being helpful and civil to other members.

What you can do at Guardian Fairies:
User Image Create your own custom 4-stage RP characters (start them at any stage!), as many as you want, completely for free.

User Image Create RP journals or RP events and interact with other members and fairies.

User Image Have your baby fairies grow up, fall in love, and have children, or create adult fairies with children right from the start.

User Image Enjoy all the fun of having a breedables RP kid without all the pressure of RP growth requirements or the threat of your kid being taken away from inactivity - if you create your own fairies, they're yours forever, and we have no RP requirements.

User Image If you're artistically inclined, start your own minishop to give away or sell fairy edits, accessories, or anything else you can think of relating to fairies.

User Image If you're not so artistically inclined, use the simple, premade bases and art help subforum to try creating you own fairy. Even if you think you can't draw at all, give it a try, and the experienced artists will be ready and willing to help you learn some new skills.

So now that you've been introduced to how we work, let's get some backstory on the Guardian Fairies species!

(also on the front page of the main thread)

Long ago, a fairy colony lived in an ancient and magical tree. Every day, twinkling sparklettes rained down from the tree and landed amongst the tiny fairies. Eventually, the fairies began absorbing the magical sparklettes and channeling them into their own energy, which they then began to use to help protect other beings. Fairies skilled in this guardian magic soon began to adopt traits from the creatures and plants they watched over. With these new traits, the fairies became stronger and more suitable guardians. Their own naturally occurring magical powers had been enhanced, and they could now produce their own sparklettes.

Uncertain of what to do with their excess energy, the fairies began channeling their extra sparklettes into the tree for storage. Unfortunately, the extra magic was too much for the tree to handle and it began to wither and die. Without their home, the Guardian Fairies were lost and unsure of what to do with themselves and their extra magic. Their small bodies couldn't store the extra energy, and they needed somewhere to put it. An elite group of fairies was charged with finding a solution. One of these fairies insisted that the strong animal he guarded, the Tasmanian Tiger, could surely handle absorbing these extra sparklettes. Unfortunately, that didn't work out too well. The youngest fairy of the group decided that humans were the answer!

It turns out humans were a very good choice...with their large, non-magical bodies, humans could channel the sparklettes more efficiently than any other creature. In fact, humans were so pathetically magicless that they could serve as a magical trashcan for multiple small fairies without any ill effects! And they could even consent to the job! It was henceforth decided that each new Guardian Fairy would be given a trustworthy human caretaker, who would help them grow and keep their magic at a level safe for both of them. This is how it came to be that humans and Guardian Fairies came to live together - and how you now have the opportunity to care for you own fairies!

So what do they guard, anyway?

Each guardian fairy guards a type of plant or animal - anything from ponies to roses to dinosaurs. The plant or animal can be anything, including extinct or fantasy species. There are multiple guardian fairies for each guarded species - for example, there can be 2, 15, even hundreds of fairies who all guard ponies, so if someone has already made a fairy guarding the species you want to use, just make another one!

Guardian fairies develop characteristics of their species. You can decide what theses are, such as pony ears for a pony fairy or rose petal wings for a rose fairy. Be creative and try to find ways to incorporate the colors and patterns of you fairy's guarded species into his or her design.

What is the guardian fairy life cycle? Where do they come from?

Guardian fairies are a natural species, meaning that all baby fairies are born from adult fairy parents, they don't just appear magically out of nowhere. If you decide to create a fairy at the baby stage and don't want to RP parents, you can decide to either mention who his or her birth parents are, or just assume that the fairy had been adopted by humans and does not know the fairy parents. You don't have to worry about it too much if you don't want to get into who your fairy's biological family is. Most of the current fairies have never had any kind of backstory for their parents.

Guardian fairies have four stages - baby, child, teen, and adult. You can create your own fairies at any stage you want to. You can grow them as fast as you want, whenever you want, regardless of whether you have RPed at all or not. No need to wait for growth requirements when you can color you own!

Now that we know more about them, let's see how you can create your own fairy character!

User Image User Image User Image Bases and Stuff! User Image User Image User Image

Ok, so now that you know more about guardian fairies, let's see the bases and start making new fairies!

There are 3 bases for each stage, in convenient flying, standing, and sitting poses, so take your pick based on your fairy's personality. The facial expressions are interchangeable and easily edited, so don't let your fairy just have a generic cookie cutter expression! Feel free to change and edit your own expressions. Also keep in mind that you can edit anything you want on these bases. Want one pose but want the arms to be in a different position? Redraw the arms! Want your fairy to be particularly shorter or taller than the average fairy? Edit the length of those limbs! Be creative, and do anything you can think of to these bases. I made them so you guys could go wild and do what you want, so don't feel like there are any "rules" to using them.

These bases were created in Paint because that's my preferred computer art style. I also feel it is easier to work with, especially for people who are not very experienced artists. If you would like to use anti-aliased lines, like in photoshop, feel free to lighten the bases, put them on one layer, and trace over them on another layer to get the smooth anti-aliased style. You can also completely draw your own art for your fairies if you would prefer that.

If you're used to drawing humans, you should be good to go with the bases, just edit on some clothes, hair, wings, and anything else, and get that fairy colored up. If you need some extra help, tutorials, or inspiration, check out the Art Help subforum: [link]

Want to put your completed fairy in you sig or somewhere else? We have fancy tags!
Female (pink/purple) Tag
Male (blue/purple) Tag
I use a font called Penguin Attack, which you can download at a free font website, with size 18 for the fairy's name and size 16 for the other info. You can also use any other font of your choice. For the font color I use the color of the title, "Guardian Fairies," so pink for girls and blue for boys. Put the name of your fairy at the top of the purple cloud, above "guardian of" and then the guarded species and your name (as caretaker) under their respective titles.

So now you've read all the info, and maybe even made your first fairy. There are a few things you can do next:

User Image Introduce yourself either in the main thread or one of the guild chat threads, if you haven't already.

User Image Start a journal or "home" thread in the Guardian Fairy Neighborhood subforum.

User Image Start an RP or join an existing one.

User Image If you're skilled with art, you can write a helpful tutorial or start a minishop in the Art Help & Minishops subforum.

User Image Have fun you guys! I set this all up so people could enjoy it, so if there's an event or something else you'd like to try or think would be fun to do in the guild, suggest away! =D
